  • Here in central Alberta sits what remains of a chemical plant that dates back to the mid 1950s and was shut down sometime in the early 1980s and later much of the plant was scrapped and removed from the site.
Looking at the few records I could find from the history of the plant the main chemicals made were: Liquid chlorine; sodium hydroxide (caustic soda); and hydrochloric acid that were shipped out by rail.
What you find now is the remains of a test facility from more recent times set up to explore options of reviving the site but as you will see that didn't go to plan.
It almost looks like they just up and left one day, maybe with the thought of returning but they never did.
    Thank you for watching!

Great Video as always! BUT please do us and most notably yourself a favor and wear a mask the next time you visit a location like this. No matter for how long the location might be abandoned, eroded pipes or tanks may still leak toxic gases and not every gas has a odor. :)

This is a really interesting and unique location. One aspect of your videos that brings to me (at least) a lot of value is the realization of things that I don't consider in my everyday life. I mean, who thinks daily about manufacturing different chemical, aside from those who've worked in such plants? There are always things to learn from your explorations! Thank you. Be blessed!

Great vid Wade. I know this location as I grew up just north of that location along the North sask river. I agree that this area should have been cleaned and given back to mother nature. These companies should be held responsible for clean-up.

Be careful in those types of places. I work in the refinery industry so id recommend having a h²s monitor next time or a 4gas meter. Those chemicals are nasty and most of the stuff in those places are carcinogens. And a bunch of lead and asbestos.
