- One of the coolest things about Thomas is that nearly every engine in the show is based on an actual real life vehicle. So here is my video showing every character in the television series alongside their real-life counterpart!
This is a remaster of a previous video, now featuring the complete collection of characters that appeared in the TV series, road vehicles, helicopters, planes and cranes included.
The appalling royalty free music comes courtesy of the UA-cam Audio library.

Had no Idea Harvey was based on a real train. I mean when you take into consideration that characters like Percy aren't based on any pre-existing locomotive even though he's such a simple normal looking generic engine, its kinda hard to imagine one with a giant crane on the top of it.

BR has a Class 121 that somewhat looks like the basis for Daisy and we still think of her as a Class 101

Besides the class 101 always came in two three, or four car permanently coupled trainsets while the 121 is a single railcar which was occasionally seen with a detachable control trailer. Daisy is depicted as a single railcar

Wilbert confirmed in the IOS book that Daisy was specially built, meaning she most likely would've been a one-off build compared to the other BR 101 railcars
And also, Wilbert did use a Triang BR class 101 for his Daisy model, so that's most likely that's what he intended Daisy to be based on

12:12 Marcio and Marcia are not only based on steam locomotive #215, they are also based on #210, which is known to be twins. They are fully operational in Brazil, in the state of São Paulo.
I still find it ridiculous how T&F took some of the most unique character designs and wrote trash characters for them.
And the wildly inconsistent period dating of every vehicle all the way from 1920's all the way into the 2020+* (plus because of the sci-fi futuristic steam car train- thing)
I'm pretty sure the current/CGI Thomas wasn't exactly set in the 20s though.
Also which steam car engine are you talking about?

Thomas and friends takes place in the 1950s if I remember correctly. That's why they never did anything to do WW1 or WW2 rail operations. Because both wars were already over.
@@Gamerguy826 Apparently from the wiki, most of Season 12 to Season 16 takes place in 1953 to 62. While King of the Railway, Season 17 to 24 take place in 2013 to 2019. So they most likely did partake in those wars since they were apart of the British Railways until its privatization in the 90s.

Not really. TTTE takes place in 50s which is often considered the last hurrah for Steam engines. That's why you only see early Diesel engines and The Fat Controller almost always calls them "new" even if they've already been in service for quite some time on mainland railways... because they're new to him and his railway. Wealth doesn't necessarily equal experience with new tech.

there should be more CGI television episodes starring Mrs. Jenny, Jack, Alfie, Oliver, Max, Monty, Kelly, Isabella, Byron, Ned, Patrick, Nelson, Buster, Brenda and Darcy.

My final conclusion?
Molly, Neville, Dennis, Diesel 10, Splatter, Dodge, Jeremy, Freddie, Mighty Mac, Proteus,
Fergus, Arthur, Murdoch and many other side characters from the model series should be
given more individual CGI television episodes to themselves instead of being reduced to
non-speaking background cameos.
1:07 BoCo is actually a Class 28.
Anyways, I can’t wait to see UA-cam mark this as made for kids, like they did with the Season 5 tapes.

I really don't know who my favorite is, but I do know that Thomas and Friends is still one of my favorites, even beyond childhood. I've made fanfiction from this series and I plan on doing more.

Technically ex-Cardiff Railway. No.5 is his twin, whereas he was No.6 in Wales, partially scrapped, modified, and became No.6 again in Sodor.

You got BoCo's basis wrong. He's a class 28, not a 27. Also Buster is an r10 class, not a regular r class like George. And Jeremy is a BAC One-Eleven Airliner, although he does kind of resemble the G550.
On a similar note Diesel, Arry and Bert are Class 08s which are also called D199s or BLOSC Model 19s. They were one of the most successful models of Diesel locomotives ever produced and even debuted as early as the 30s but suffered from overheating issues and poor ventilation. They also only had a top speed of 20mph.

Since he's already orange I think it would've made more sense to make Terence as an Allis Chalmers Monarch tractor, but that's just my headcanon.
American locomotives are so beautiful. The tall and slender body gives a strong sense of strength.
I, personally, don't agree to the consensus that Percy's basis is "Trojan with a bunker"
It works for the later RWS illustrations but for the Dalby and TVS eras he's clearly a more of unique build. He certainly has roots in Great Western territory (possibly built for one of the smaller branches in Wales or the West of England) but I think trying to tie him down to an existing locomotive kinda takes away from his unique look.
Also, Russell is from the Welsh Highland Railway, not the Ffestiniog!
His shape in the TV series is like a GWR 1361 Class, but they were 0-6-0 tank engines.
He was No.6 in Wales, and he became No.6 again in Sodor.
I thought James was a mixed traffic engine, but this is a great video excellent work.

Ngl the way they took a vehicle design, slapped a face on it, and called that a character makes for some pretty cursed designs when they are compared to the IRL counterparts.

He’s probably too old to be restored to steam, but there’s talks of a replica being built instead

Proteus' basis is a hodgepodge of two engines, but mainly based on the Talyllyn Railway's No.3 Sir Haydn (Sir Handel's basis) who is a Hughes Falcon 0-4-2ST. However, Proteus' cylinder block, wheels, and valve gear are based on a Kerr Stuart Tattoo Class 0-4-2ST just like the Talyllyn Railway's No.4 Edward Thomas (Peter Sam's basis)

Do any of you guys know that Diesel 10 isn't really an engine, he's actually a Robot 🤖, but in reality having a hydraulic claw on top of any locomotive is considered illegal, with out a doubt, Diesel 10 is a Robot 🤖.

Unfortunately no. They were all scrapped by 1956, but one Class 27 still exists, and looks nearly identical to a 28. She lives at the East Lancashire Railway and was just overhauled in 2021.
