Your hands are so perfect and relaxed. I love your beautiful playing and could watch your fingers move all day. Amazing rendition :) What a treat -- thank you.
There's nobody surpassing this incredible level of deliciousness in music. The flavor is simply second to none. Famous or not, this guy is the toppermost. Simply Wow. I hope 100s of burgeoning pianists get addicted as me. We need more of this in the world.
Jon Clearly and the monster gents produced one of my fave jams of all time with this track. I don't know what my fave solo version is, but I'll put this on the list
@@EthanLeinwand Hey! My comment was 3 months ago... since then I think I have come back here played your version at least 20 times! Everytime , I find something new I like! Sending bro hugs 🤗
Man, what a great cover! Faithful to the original, yet nuanced. From time to time I check out this video again while I futilely try to learn to play the piano haha
@@EthanLeinwand just out of curiosity, I'm a big fan of this kinda music, but I'm crap when it comes to boogie woogie. I can't seem to maintain control of my left hand when I'm trying to improvise with my right. Mostly because I've worked classical for the four years I've been playing, is there a go to method as far as cementing your left hand to follow patterns, or do you just kinda power through till it works?
@@mskerrot Fake it 'til you make it! The more you practice, and especially the more you work on improvising over a left hand pattern, the stronger and steadier it will become.
When i first started trying to play Professor Longhair, I didn't have the rhumba feel. I just sorta swung it. Later on, when I discovered Jimmy Yancey, I realized that I was sounding much more like him than Longhair. It's only through understanding Jimmy Yancey that I was then able to find the Longhair sound. That's a long way of saying that it makes me happy you're hearing that in my version! Thanks!
We got your permission a while back to add this music as the intro to my podcast. We just shared a link to our website as well. The talent is real. Amazing job!
Ethan, this is my all-time favorite rendition of Tipitina (I prefer it without vocals). If you were to play it again, how would you do it? Would it be an improvement on this 10-year old version?
Thanks for the great question! Had to go back and listen to this recording again....it's been a while! Posted it 10 years ago, but actually recorded it 12 years ago! Who knows how many hundreds of times I've played this tune since then. My playing has grown lightyears since then, but that doesn't change the fact that i still think this is a solid take. I wouldn't say it exactly catches fire, but it breathes and has a good, relaxed groove. Here's a video of me playing it last year at a concert. Though I'm a far better pianist, I don't know if this particular take is an improvement or not. It has some cool moments with stuff I couldn't do back in the day... but it feels a little rushed to me and definitely not as relaxed , especially in the beginning. ua-cam.com/video/ksdET04mov0/v-deo.htmlsi=l9zfMPTzdxXTc7Q5
@@EthanLeinwand Hi Ethan, thanks for the reply and the link. I agree with you. The newer version is definitely technically more proficient but it lacks the relaxed bluesy feel of the older one. I prefer the older one, but also like the newer one. Had I not heard the older, I would have been qute happy.🤣 The link didn’t work, but here’s the correct one (I think) : ua-cam.com/video/ksdET04mov0/v-deo.htmlsi=mFEqFrnsIfrJhVno
This guy is truly one of the great interpreters of one of the most important genres of American music.
You knocked it out of the park with this one.

Appreciate the kind words! I think we can all relate to that feeling of futility at the piano....it's a long road!
I agree. This pianist is excellent.

Gets better every time I hear it. Amazing dynamic control.
Beautifully Played!
Vraiment très beau jeu , ça rend bien l impression de se retrouver dans les années hot du vrai jazz merci beaucoup
Merci!
I like how you throw a bit of the old Jimmy Yancey "How Long Blues" into it as well.

Where do you find such compact acoustic pianos? anyone has any models to recommend, i'm kinda short of space. thanks :)
Where can I get the sheet music for the arrangement played by Ethan ?
In my head, I hear a nice acoustic electric guitar, and a jazz drummer
A second line drummer to keep the drive going
What's a piano model?

Good acting....
