This looks fantastic. Roger Deakins is truly something else
Him and Hoyte Van Hoytema are my favorite two cinematographers.
Deakins is in for another oscar.
His cinematography is always magnificent!
Just in this trailer I had to screen shot like 10 times. Just WOW.

🤣 🤣 🤣
🤣 🤣
🤣
You're telling me this film has a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, stars at least two multiple Oscar nominated and winning actors, directed by one of the best visual filmmakers of the past 25 years, and arguably the best cinematographer and editor in the business??? Take my $ now!
It took me by surprise given that Thomas Newman has been working with Mendes since American Beauty.
The social network score is still one of my favorites. Especially the track “In Motion”.
@x no
yeah i thought The Batman will win cinematography but i think RD is taking his 3rd oscar home
@@CB_4 It’s not even going to be nominated.
Ok so after watching this it’s safe to say that Awards Season has started because everything we’ve come to love and revere about Sam Mendes and Roger Deakins is in full display. The craftsmanship and dedication to their art is beautifully executed in every frame. The score. This cast led by the masterful Olivia Colman. Pretty much everything I love about movies and watching them on the big screen seem to be in this trailer. I’m in awe.

Directed and written by Sam Mendes
Music by Trent Reznor and Attiucus Ross
Cinematography by Roger Deakins
And starring Olivia Colman
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
Oh, you gotdamn right!
Yeah man, that’s a interesting and tasty combo..
@@TheWayfarerFamily It was like a dream teamwork come true .
And edited by Lee Smith
Let's not forget Collin Firth is in this as well.
This looks amazing. Sam Mendes and Olivia Colman working together it's something you cannot miss. It's a gift.
Beyond breathtakingly beautiful!
Olivia Colman is THE moment. I am so happy she is headlining more major motion pictures. She deserves it and all the accolades she will get for this. Also, the movie looks phenomenal. Best of luck to Mr. Mendes and Sir Deakins. Can’t wait!
Had no idea Roger Deakins had been knighted! Sam Mendes is knighted as well, by the way!
@David LaMan Wow...that sounds exciting.
@@perfectajo Didn't know that about Sam Mendes. Wow, legends these guys are!!
She’s the best actress of the decade so far
She sadly died
I feel like this is one of these movies that slightly burn you and leave you thinking about it for weeks, but I'm here for it, and I am SO ready to see Olivia Colman in this. The performance looks-once again-like something I've never seen her do before, I love that she gets to finally use her potential. We're so blessed with an actress like her.
‘Looks at the first shot of the trailer’
Yep that’s Roger Deakins’ work alright! That’s Oscar material!
@Rock girl She'll be whacking people with a wet floor sign just to get it!
I just saw this movie and I'm blown away. The soundtrack, cinematography, acting and the setting all are so elegantly put in. I'm wondering how a movie can make me feel so many emotion about the people i see in those movies. I really liked it.
I was LOVING the cinematography in the trailer, then I looked and realized that Roger Deakins is the cinematographer, and then it all made sense.
He's won two Academy Awards for his work on 1917 and Blade Runner 2049, and he's also worked on The Goldfinch, Hail, Caesar!, Sicario, Unbroken, Prisoners, Skyfall, In Time, True Grit A Serious Man, Revolutionary Road, The Reader, Doubt, and so much more.
One of the best in the business. So happy to see that he's a part of this project. 👏👏👏
And two of my favourites ever Shawshank Redemption and The Assasination of Jesse James
He had 13 Oscar nominations. And then he won back to back Oscars on his 14th and 15th noms. The man is a literal legend. Just writing this is giving me goosebumps.
For me his best work is in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Breathtaking cinematography, plus the soundtrack, acting, directing...
I am not only excited to watch this film but also for the soundtrack. Reznor and Ross always create the best scores. ❤
Suprised Tom Newman isnt doing the score. He’s been Mendes’ go to guy for decades now.
This soundtrack may be my favorite one of Trents and Atticus’ so far. The whole thing is just gorgeous
This was filmed in my hometown called Margate. It was great watching them filming this on the seafront and even nicer to see how good this trailer looks.
Me too buddy
Watching the filming was amazing
That’s nice
The station sequence doesn't appear to have been filmed there FWIW - that's a Great Eastern Railway clock above the departure display.
Same 😅. Seeing the 'snow' on the road was pretty strange.
Me too...good memories 🙂
This might be the best trailer of the year. And it might be one of the best films too. So excited. Mendes and Deakins cannot do something bad.
This is a teaser, the trailer will contain the entire film condensed into 2 minutes spoiling the ending.
@@krashd I know it's a teaser. I'm just always referring a teaser as a trailer A teaser is even better, for the reasons you mentioned.
@@krashd You don't know that. Plus it's not a Netflix film.
The trailer for Nope was good. The first one.
Saw this last night.
Omg. I was blown away; it is difficult to get into my top 10....but this is now in the club. Superb writing, sumptuous Roger Deakins cinematography and magnificent performances from a brilliant cast.
Shades of Manchester By The Sea: a loner trying to conform by disobeying the natural, solitary instincts forced upon them.
Thank you. Thank you for an unforgettable experience.
It feels meta for me to be this excited to go to the movies to watch a movie about the movies, but I'm so hype for this already. Looks stunning!
@Gabriel
Feels Mets does it🙄
The basis of it looks very inspired and copied from Cinema Paradiso though.
Sam Mendes, Roger Deakins, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Olivia Colman, Colin Firth, Tony Jones…
This looks *GREAT* 🙌
Don’t forget Micheal Ward 😉
The Fablemans and now the empire of light. Wow. What a time for movies.
Mendes and Deakins are already a goated duo but the addition of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross......Im screaming its so good
Seeing it being filmed the sets on Margate seafront the patchwork of moments as a passerby it was hard to comprehend the vision yet this trailer alone is beautiful can’t wait to see the film
Movies are coming back and I’m here for it.
Why did I cry while watching this?
Olivia Colmon is coming for another Oscar!!
No. Cate Blanchett is winning.
@@encheknizam I agree lol Things looked different when I posted this 2 months ago
I was so excited when this was being filmed, and I loved watching all the vintage cars going up and down the seafront when they were doing the different shots. One of the times I was grateful I live in margate 😂 I can't wait to actually see this masterpiece in full 🥰
Olivia is going to earn every bloody Oscar coming down that golden road!
no. Cate Blanchett is winning.
Definitely seeing in a theatres, every Deakins movie need to be seen on the big screen
Light and shadow seems to dance from Sir Deakin's fingertips!! The stuff of magic!!
All I can say is I enjoyed being a part of the making of this film ☺️
It was definitely an experience, can’t wait to see it
Wait... y'all are actually in this film?
TRENT REZNOR AND ATTICUS ROSS?? I'M TUNING IN
How Sam Mendes hasn’t been put into the conversation of BEST directors working today with guys like Nolan and Denis is beyond me…
This trailer is incredible and just shows that Sam makes some of the best films! 1917 is maybe my favorite war film of all time and man I hope Mendes gets his due at the Oscars this year for it.🙏
Nolan is not in the same league as Denis, sorry.
@@peterm.4355 You're right. Modern Denis is better than Modern Nolan.
@@tonimashdane33498 I beg of you to watch more movies
Nolan is (Nowhere NEAR) In the Same league as Denis, Sweetie; if for No Other Reason the Intellectual (and Mental Saw Mill) Department,.🙏🎨🙏.
Now.. to be fair; Memento IS a Trippy Intellegence Trip. (Both Literally And Figuratively),. But - it's just not as Comprehensively Transcendent as 2049.. ...or even Enemy, ftm.
- Now, if You'd Like; I can go into this further.. (And I MEAN that.).
Please Do Your Homework more thoroughly..
😐😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😐😑🤦♀️🤦♂️🤦♀️
@@peterm.4355 he very much is actually
I don't know how the final movie will be (hopefully as good as this teaser) but two things are for sure, we're in for another visual treat from Roger Deakins and another knockout performance from Olivia Colman
Some heavy hitters in those credits, looks great
I just watched this movie on HBO. It was fantastic. Wonderful acting. Since I’m from California I’m not familiar with the actors. They were all outstanding. Olivia Coleman was unbelievably great as well as Sam.
this is such a magnificent, moving, sweet, moving film - I highly recommend it. This one is a true gem.
This movie really comes from the heart of Sam Mendes. The cast is incredible. The story is very good and emotional, warm and cinematography master Roger Deakins, soundtrack Reznor and Ross.. I’m excited to go to the movies and watch it. And I hope people come and see this film in that spirit 💚
Sam Mendes + Roger Deakins in a movie about the magic of cinema is a must!
I live in Margate and got to see the filming of this, it's really incredible to see it all cone together
Auditioned to be one of the skin heads in this. Didn’t get the role unfortunately but can’t wait to see it!
I watched a UA-cam ad just for this trailer. Absolutely captivating start! I can not wait for this to be my new favorite movie of all time!!!
Looks wonderful, especially as a Margate person. Beautiful ❤️
I’m kind of obsessed with the trailer and the music. It’s rare these days a trailer and soundtrack well designed. Olivia and Sam are going to rock!
Do you know the title of the music or the composer
@@ps4geek970 no, and I would love to know it too
@@carlosmartins3009 Have you found it ?

This looks so promising. Olivia colman is my forever love.
Michael Ward always too cold wid it 👏
A film about the magic of cinema... shot on a digital camera. I truly wish this was shot on real 35mm film.
I didn’t know what I was expecting before I watched this in the big screen. I had no idea that it would be SO RELATABLE as I am a schizophrenic cinema host JUST LIKE the main character. The creators of the film got everything right, from the scenes where the cinema hosts sweep up the popcorn mess on the floor, to the scene where the schizophrenic seems to humiliate herself. A lot of her (the schizophrenic’s) experiences were similar to mine. This movie I think helps to destigmatise madness as well in a way. I like the exposure that paranoid schizophrenia is getting in this movie. Made me want to reduce the stigma of schizophrenia so more people can say out loud that they have schizophrenia without being ashamed of their diagnosis. Brilliant movie!
I liked the movie! It highlighted mental health and how people back then didn't know how to deal with it or want to talk about it. Since the movie takes place mostly in a Cinema it was also nice to see "the love of movies" integrated into the film. The age difference between the characters is suspicious but I'll take it. Beautifully shot and acted. Well done!
This was the first feature I've ever worked on!! In the scenes with fire works I was down on the beach working locations 😄
THIS IS GOING TO BE SO FLIPPING GOOD I CANT WAIT AHHH!!!!!!!
A movie without explosions and superheroes? Count me in.
Olivia Coleman is hellbent on getting an Oscar nomination/win every year, ambitious queen behaviour
I would die for Olivia Colman
A bit extreme don't you think? I'm certain she wouldn't die for you lol. I've met her.
The writing seems wonderful, the monologue featured here is exceptional. Fan of Mendes’s and Roger Deakins, oh my goodness! 😍
Love this for Michael Ward. His career is on a steady rise. I wish him more opportunities to work with great talent. His name belongs amongst them.
At first I was like "Sam Mendes? Yes. I'm in." Then I saw Olivia Colman, Micheal Ward, Colin Firth AND Toby Jones were also in it I was like "Oh hell yeah, I'm definitely in."
So, I knew this was Sam Mendes, so I was already interested. Then with the first few frames, I could tell this was Roger Deakins, so I was even more on board. Then I saw Olivia Coleman and Colin Firth, and I was like “yup”. And then, to top it all off, you’re telling me Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross did the music for this? Jesus….. this is like, the moviest movie to ever movie.
I'm from Kent and thoroughly enjoyed the trailer, seeing how our beautiful locations and iconic buildings were captured on screen. I live in Malta now and desperately hope this movie will be shown over here. Keeping everything crossed.
This looks absolutely beautiful. Honestly, I might just watch this for the visuals
There are quite a few films I own on 4k simply for the visuals and the score.
@@antoniochasten3192 like what? I'm looking to expand my 4k collection
Its roger deakins the best dp

The soundtrack...chills omg

@@simon.6138 thx bro.
For making this movie thank you and Olivia Colman deserves an award and everyone else in it was great.
That voice over text is one of the most beautiful metaphors i've come across. Thank you.
This will be a huge hit. Deakins, mendes and great cast, showing the magic of film projection. Whats not to like? Gets my vote from the trailer
This trailer almost made my tearducts do their thing
Edit: Appreciate Mendes picking up the pen as of late.
I see already there will be so many more iconic shots to add to the Roger Deakins reel of great cinema moments.
Colin Firth is killing it this year. He's like in every good film made this year.
So with this, Babylon, The Fabelmans and last year's Belfast, I'm starting to see a trend of big directors making a personal tribute to film and I'm not sure if I care for it.
Gosh I'm such a sucker for movies about the movies
This made me stop everything I was doing. I am speechless. 🥺❤️
I thought this was a really wonderful film and quite different from anything else I’ve ever seen. The acting was for want of a better word. Superb! Every scene was so believable. A realistic look at the tortured lives with mental illness. I watched this streaming it on HBO.
Score by Trent Reznor. Sheesh. What a flex 💪🏻
& Olivia Colman is Queen. 👑
I smell Oscar gold lol
For me Empire of Light will get 2 Oscar noms for Actress - Olivia Colman and Cinematography
You can tell the cinematographer from the first shot of trailer itself that it's a work of legend Roger deakins.
Wish all trailers were like this.
A movie about movies? The Academy will love this
I already want that soundtrack.
Empire Of Light is gonna be pure cinema!
The soundtrack alone has me hyped but then I saw the cast and cinematographer!
People often complain about trailers that give the whole plot in three minutes, but not today. I have no idea what this film is about. Also, it looks excellent.
Mendes really is one of the very Best!
Absolutely stunning visual trailer!!
Wow! Amazing score, cinematography, cast. Can't wait to see it.
I can’t wait to see this film… this looks fantastic.
Mendes and Deakins at it again
I love movies about loving movies. I hope this is as excellent as it looks.
This was amazing. Just out of the cinema there
I love every bit of the movie
It was beautiful
It is amazing to see my home town in a major motion picture
The fact that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are scoring this movie is a testament to how truly wonderful this film is going to be
Micheal Ward. Olivia Colman. Sam Mendes. Wow
I’m gonna watch this as soon as it comes out.
If this is a love letter to cinema then I'm all the way in!
This is what a trailer supposes to look like 👏🏽
Can’t wait to watch this on streaming
Sam Mendes. That's it. That's the sign of an incoming masterpiece.
Loved every scene and every dialogue
The Toll must be paid.
oh man! Roger Deakins, Trent Reznor, Sam Mendes??! So pumped
Fast-paced cutting on a piece of slow music and it works seamlessly together. Great editing!
Can't wait to see another Mendes/Deakins collaboration!
Tobey Jones my man is a totally underrated actor.
He needs to receive an Oscar already.
How in the world does this and Spielberg’s new film come out the exact same year while both being about filmmaking. Interesting.
This Was shot on Blackmagic Cinema Camera 12k and it looks great!
Promising
This feels so magical
