- Choosing your perfect camping spot at Burning Man can be a bit of a challenge, especially if you're a first timer and you're not sure about the lay of the land, what to avoid and what to look out for.
Hopefully this video will help give you a better idea of what to be looking for based on the type of experience you're hoping to have.
Here's an amazing unofficial map of Black Rock City with lots of the theme camp locations filled in (not everything is on there though! so check back with it to get updates):

Good advice here. I’ve also heard to avoid the outside part of the outermost ring. Shuttles, vehicles, etc drive up and down it.

Sound avoidance, answer yes you can get away from the sound some years but you'll eventually be camped next to the loud guys!!!

Excellent map Trying to figure out where would be best to set up assuming a compass reading from the man to the temple is due north, center camp is due south sun sets west at 9;00, sun rises east at 3:00. What direction is the wind coming from most of the time?
The official map has the direction of due north on it burningman.org/event/black-rock-city-guide/2017-black-rock-city-plan/ and it pretty much seems to line up with the runway for planes. The wind can really come from any direction but most people say the prevailing winds are from the SW. Might be worth checking the weather reports before heading out to see what they say, this one includes the wind direction www.intellicast.com/Local/Weather.aspx?location=USNV0033
They don't seem to be correct on that map.
I'm surprised to hear kids are allowed. It just seems like not a great place for kids. How do you explain the orgy dome to a 9yr old. I suppose it's big enough you could keep them away from some of this stuff, I dunno, i do know I wouldn't take my kids.
How do you explain strip clubs and s&m clubs in your home town to your kids?
