    I'm so grateful for your smart yet still sexy advice. I'm burning for the first time in 2023 and you help me feel so much better prepared

      Thanks so much! It is a bit of a pain figuring out how to get over from the UK, but trust me it's well worth it. Hope you make it out there someday!

    I would recommend against the zip off shorts/pants.
    The zipper is likely to rub you. I had a pair I used to love, however on 2 separate years they chaffed me to the point of injury and made late crew intolerable.
    If you notice any chaffing, immediately make a wardrobe change .

    • @projectpterodactyl81
      @projectpterodactyl81  7 років тому

      Ooo I never thought of that with the zipper trousers, I was planning to try and grab a pair for this year but I can't stand anything that chafes or rubs. Thanks for the tip!

    I would probably dress like Arabs. Long flowing robes, head scarves, and sandals. Countless generations living in the dessert probably have the best clothing figured out.

    There are material out there that have an SPF rating. Regular stuff may not have the SPF needed.

    • @projectpterodactyl81
      @projectpterodactyl81  7 років тому

      Oooo that's good to know! I wanted to grab a few new bits for this year so I'll keep an eye out for stuff that has an SPF rating especially for things to cover my shoulders as they always seem to end up a little pink

      Thank you on your quick responses (all of them were very quick). I do not know for sure but if there is a Running Room near you take a look as well they can be ordered online. I am very vulnerable to burning (due to a chemo med) so I see a skin Doctor (one of the best in Canada, having a very rare cancer does have some upside) and she said if you can see through it (will hide all your bits well though) will have a lower limit of Sun protection! Help for those going to Second Hand shops! Try to remember though you and your viewers might not need as high sun protection as I (for me they are now saying 80% UVB protection - good thing I am not into tanning).

      @@timgreen6384 Thinking more about the fire aspect, I would settle for rigid denim and cowhide leather.
      Particularly on the night of the huge bonfire, where I would not want to end up literally being the burning man.
      😊😊😃😃🔥🔥

    While I haven’t been to Burning Man, I have been to a LOT of other camping festivals. If you get blisters easily, duct tape your feet (it is surprisingly comfortable) , wear 2 or even 3 pairs of thick socks (adds extra cushion and is a friction barrier), and bring a pair of shoes for every day. You may think that your boots are super comfortable and broken in, but if you have never walked 15 miles in them in one day, you don’t know how your feet will react. It is better safe than sorry. Sore feet can ruin a festival. Also, if lots of socks aren’t your thing, bring knee high panty hoes. Put them under your socks, you can even just tuck them down and hide them. They are a great friction barrier.
    Bring a bucket so you can soak your feet. I always use vinegar water. Elevate your feet at least once a day. It will help with the swelling. Bring blister guards, sometimes blisters are unavoidable. Take good care of your feet.

    Great video! I've watched many of your videos and love them. This will be my first time at TTITD, and I have been preparing for months. I'll be camping with a clean and sober group called Camp Stella (7:45 & F). We offer a daily 12-step meeting for anyone who wants to attend. Feel free to mention this if you want, as it is a great resource for people in recovery who want to experience the burn and stay sober. Thanks!

      Thanks so much! I'm so glad you're enjoying them. I heard about some sober theme camps at Burning Man and it's such a fabulous thing to be out there! Great to have support for the people that need it so they can still enjoy Burning Man. I'll try and get the word out because I'm sure it'll be helpful for some people.

    Thank you for saying that thing about the "perfect beach body" burner pictures not representing reality, I really was self-conscious haha!

    • @projectpterodactyl81
      @projectpterodactyl81  7 років тому +4

      Thanks :) I can totally relate! When you look at all the pictures online it can feel like you're heading off to some kind of dusty fashion show full of top models! I wish more pictures would start popping up showcasing lots of different types of bodies, ages, genders, all that stuff to show what a diverse mix of people there is. I'm so glad it helped you feel less self concious

    I wish I could go this year, but after breaking my leg twice and a staph infection, my leg is fine but taking a lot longer to heal after having 5 surgeries. The last thing I want is playa dust in there. I do enjoy your videos as they're highly informative. I'm going to spend the next year to get ready for 2018. I'll be the one walking around in a Spirit Bear outfit.

    • @projectpterodactyl81
      @projectpterodactyl81  7 років тому

      I hope you recover soon! I can imagine playa dust wouldn't be the best thing to get in there. Hope you manage to make it out there, it'll be an amazing thing to do once you're all healed up. Best of luck getting better!

    Thank you for all your wonderful videos. I am a Virgin and, thanks to you, I feel like I am almost completely ready... maybe too ready.
    I'm camping in Red Nose District at 4:15 and Esplanade. If I don't visit you, come by and say hi to me. I'm the six foot seven dood with the grey beard. I'm still deciding on Costuming, but I may make my Venetian pirate hat my hat of choice.

    Could you offer few specifics as to "bits and pieces"? It's mentioned at least twice but I have no idea what you mean.

    • @RumerPriestly
      @RumerPriestly 7 років тому

      Clinton Gilbert "stop your bits and pieces getting burned" is a euphemism for genitals, telling you to bring "some bits to cover up" is a generalisation for clothing to cover your at-risk skin.

    I was just going to wear what I all the time. Jeans, boots, under shirt, over shirt, and a hat. But I live in South Texas where our summers are over 100°, with a humidity of over 90%.

    • @projectpterodactyl81
      @projectpterodactyl81  7 років тому +3

      I have no idea if you're joking, but if you're not how on earth do you survive in all those clothes in that kind of heat! Especially with that much humidity, I'd be a puddle!
      Jeans sound crazy uncomfortable to be wearing in the heat!

    • @South_Texas_Fail
      @South_Texas_Fail 7 років тому +1

      Not joking, lived in El Paso for over 10 years, so dry heat is nothing new to me. But I've worn the same kind of clothing for so long that Im just used to it. Lol

      My father was the JAG officer there as teenager we would go across the border to party in Mexico it was safer then 1967 today my wife has some family there still I do not think it is safe now. I miss the weather you could be in shorts and the mountains covered with snow. We then moved to Grand Fork North Dakota what a transition. My son and I are building an art car and fixing up an old Air Stream to go next year. I miss the dry climate it get hot and humid here in Florida. She is quite skillful in these video. Enjoy your burn

      You can automatically add that easily on your end by clicking on the "CC" icon on the lower right of the video (where you will see other icons, like settings, making the picture full screen, etc.) which will add "Closed Captioning" (typed words of what's being said).
