I think the somewhat disappointing truth is that all the best/most iconic Jordan’s were originally released decades ago. No one beside real sneakerheads have even heard of anything released after 2015.

I’ll counter with the idea that they were basketball shoes… sports (basketball in particular) will always move culture and fashion. We’ve since had the era of basketball shoes with jeans (foams, LeBron 8s etc) and then it went away from fashion. I think there are still good basketball shoes but they’re simply basketball oriented and you shouldn’t necessarily be LOOKING for style from a basketball brand. If it happens to be stylish enough to transcend the court then great but otherwise 🤷🏽‍♂️ All these brands are sports brands first. It’s how they innovate. That being said, these brands rarely hit in new stuff (without collabs) and you’re kind of right, since 2015 there hasn’t been much new blood. Even New Balance has reemergence was on the back of an 80s basketball shoe. The only innovation has been collabs (Fear of God, Yeezy, Salehe Bembury) or copying high fashion brands

Yes, the Jordan 1 Union in that black/red/grey color way is one of the best Jordan 1s of all time. Certainly if you are looking at collaborations specifically.

It could be argued that the AJ 1s were never a high performance shoe. Jordan broke his foot in those in 1985 and demanded that Nike make huge improvements in the cushioning, comfort and support..like his beloved Adidas Forums that he worn in college religiously (Fact Google it. He was forced to wear Converse in games because of UNC contractual obligations) ...see AJ 2s...In fact game-worn Air Jordan 1s from the game during which he broke his foot in 1985 sold for $422,130.
