#80s #sanfernandovalley #memories
Former student rider of the RTD 230 from 1987 to 91. Good times.
RTD was my main mode of transportation during my middle school years to my first year of high school (1977 to 1981), until I received my license in spring of 1981 at the DMV on Van Nuys Blvd. Btw, High School Drivers Training was the BEST experience ever from high school and such a part of the 80's! lol...
💯Gotta luv them 80's, a magical decade!❤👍✌!
These videos are great and make me miss the Valley. Well, not the Valley of today, but rather the Valley of yesterday. Such beautiful memories...
Agreed!!!
Nobel grad. I really enjoy your channel. Thanks
I really love this series. Must have been so cool to grow up in California in the 80s. I used to get all the BMX magazines back then and was in awe of So Cal.
I went to school with your brother. I went to Chatsworth High when they were filming Hardball. I graduated in 92.
I fought his brother

I was the DJ
I really like these SFV episodes that you do 👍
All of your videos are cool and my favorite series is "Memories of the San Fernando Valley". Been living in The Valley since 1973. I interact with your SFV videos by pausing and then searching Google Maps for the location and I always find it. Doesn't take more than a minute or two since you always provide the precise locations. I'm having fun ...
I’m from Michigan, and have never been west of Kansas…but I love your SFV videos. I like seeing your stomping grounds and the before and after shots you give us. Appreciate the content.
I remember the RTD. Those were the days!! Another one for the books. Great Video Kurt! The like these videos .
Your GPK collection is outstanding.. jealous.. great stories.. love listening to them
You are correct, Kurt, there was a Skate and Surf Shop and it was on Devonshire and De Soto, right next to the McDonald's. It was there until 4-5 years ago, and now there is a fairly large comic book shop.
RIP Skateland! Long live the MunchBox!!! Great-One-Eight, baby!!!
This guy's like the Goldbergs on UA-cam...I love it! I grew up on the other side of the tracks in Wilmington in the 80's...there were some good memories.
Let’s go!!!🎉🎉 my favorite videos
I grew up on the other side of the country but I love your "Memories" videos. It sure seems like it would have been a cool place to grow up. Don't know about now but back then it probably was Pretty Nice!
Really enjoy your memories videos….please keep em’ up. 👍
Always a great treat to watch these SFV vids. Thank you Kurt!
I like this series
You're such a good storyteller. Keep up the good work 💯🎯
Kurt, I always thought the Fast Times baseball dugout scene was filmed at Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Park but I was mistaken. I went to Van Nuys High where Fast Times was shot. Great memories.
Good stuff! Thanks for the great content.
Love those videos!
I grew up playing baseball on those fields,it was named’Franklin Fields’ and every weekend the whole place was packed with games on every field happening. There was an Opening day ceremony where teams would decorate their cars/trucks and some had the whole team in them (my dad). There were Snack shops and we would just play our game and just hangout there all day and watch other friends games.Really memorable time as a kid.And that dugout from Fast Times was the field i played the majority of my games at.
We just went to Cupid's on Sunday. We passed by your old place off victory and Tampa. We waved next time we go to the valley my husband and I would like to meet up with you and your family with some time. Thank you let's go 80's
Thanks again for these awesome videos 😊
Luv your show from San Fernando, Sylmar.....my dad worked at the GM plant my mom worked at Lockheed in Burbank and so did my grandpa
I love the 80's in the valley. I miss the old valley Canoga park. I rode the RTD bus to high school I went to Skate land my friends and I would go all the time. Great times
Great video!
Classical classics are and must be never gone!
1969 was a crazy time in the valley. Ive got many stories of manson and his followers.
I always enjoy watching your tours of the #SanFernandoValley, especially the filming locations.
Having grown up in Burbank from 1978 to 1990 (a few blocks from the Wonder Years house) I did not make it into the central or west side of The Valley much until I moved to Van Nuys from 1998 to 2004.
Excellent
I really enjoy your videos. Silly, but as a midwestern resident who hasn't been to California since the early 90's I'd had the mindset that California had become a dystopian hellscape. Your videos kind of make me want to check it out again.
It is now a dystopian hellhole.
You know socal has some amazing weather when the hallways and lockers are outside
Man this is awesome and such ab iconic spot for Americana. I wish I would've been able to do this for my home town.
I’m a graduate of Chatsworth high school 03’ the baseball team that went to nationals was a big big deal for the valley.
I grew up in North Hollywood and during summer vacation we would take the bus to Santa Monica beach. Good times!!
Awesome!!! Anything that’s related to fast Times at Ridgemont high is always great , so interesting to see how things have changed in 40 years
Nice video! I just came to L.A. recently and took the Metro Rail from NoHo to Chatsworth for my very first look at The Valley. Reseda, Encino, I really liked what I saw. Great area! Thanks for the continued good work!
In many of the Adam-12 episodes, you can see them use the LAPD's phone boxes when they had to call into the station.
I went to Joe Torre Summer Baseball Camp at those ball fields back in 88-89. Great memories!
As a guy who grew up just miles from Lake Erie it is absolutely wild that people could go to a school where the lockers are outside.
Was out that way just last weekend. Decided to take the surface roads through the valley on my way home from Van Nuys, and stopped by the Munch Box for lunch. It’s an area I haven’t really explored before.
So many memories
Haha RTD! I went to Encino Elementary in the 80s and as a 3rd grader I skipped school took the RTD to look for gummy bracelets to sell at school. When I got back to school my mom was waiting for me and whipped my ass later that night. Still worth it though sold all those trendy bracelets the next day.
Dumpster Diving just like in "Once Upon A Time in Hollywood ". My mom worked at Thrifty's in Simi. The hippie girls would come into the store often.
Always look forward to these valley videos. Fyi Noble is in Northridge not Chatsworth.
another great video, love the school stuff at the start, we here in europe have much different looking schools ,we dont have school buses,we dont really have like HS hockey or basketball football comps ect .. so very different in literally every way, and i so love this arhitecture, make sure u do make lots of vids and pic of that school ... its to die for to make a movie there
Ventura BLVD always reminds me of the Sheryl Crow song “All I wanna do, is have some fun”.
You are correct sir about the skate shop across the street from Hughes. Also, “On e upon a time in Hollywood” confirmed the stories of the dumpster diving. And let’s not forget the Munch Box where Charlie’s gf worked at the Candy Cat across the street by the Happy Hookers knitting supply! 😅
A little further down from where you are standing on Ventura Blvd. is a Ralphs Market, near White Oak. I worked there for a short time in 1988-89.
I remember watching "Hardball" on Friday nights. It followed "Baywatch" and was followed by "Mancuso, FBI." It was still on when Richard Tyson was in "Kindergarten Cop."
Another school function that isn't how the movies show depict them are high school reunions. I have not gone to any, but the pictures show a bunch of people whom are mostly friends with each other gathering at a bar or cookout. Now with social media, the novelty reunion aspect of seeing people again after ten or twenty or however many years is gone.
I remember the program "Hardball" with John Ashton.
Yep, remember the Rapid Transit District.
Kurt,
You should do a video with your brother. It would be cool to hear some stories he has of you. Since he’s older.
I grew up in the valley back in the 80's. Thanks for the memories.
I remember magma skate shop and the vacuum repair shop.
Before that it used to be a gym
Bunch of OG Nobel Alumni here and it makes me happy. Class of 2009 lol
Hey Kurt I think that Hughes Market was the one Kevin Poulsen was busted at …..A big icon of the 80s lol
Love your content. I know it's not the Eightes, but would love to see you do Renegade location. Filmed in San Diego area
I didn't go to Nobel Jr High, but everyone i knew just called the place "No balls, no walls"
Yeah, Ralphs market bought out Hughes back in the 90s
Also chatsworh pharmacy.
The used to deliver the medication in a vw bug.
It had a custom license plate that said pill bug.
Wish i documented my home town over the years i still live here its changed so much since the 80s to much development big time!!!
There was a surf shop their the owner was really cool the last time I was out there he was set up next to the McDonalds down the street I still have some stuff I bought from him.
Yay! Thx
I remember “HARDBALL”. Had Taggert from Beverly Hills Cop and the bad guy from Kindergarten Cop
Yes there was a vacuum repair shop on Canoga. I went to school up the street at Chatsworth Hills Academy, my dad's shop was at 10023 Canoga and i worked two buildings over as an adult.
7:42 That was an amazing take🤣 & you’re 100% correct
Went to Chatsworth high 91 - 93.
Yes FIRE CALL BOXES... Remember the C.H.I.P.S. Episode where the teen" I think" kept making PRANK FIRE CALLS....
do BACHELOR PARTY filming locations!
Yes I remember the 230 91 to downtown LA and the 169 to Hollywood
Is this where they shot SUMMER SCHOOL...? I think maybe you did a video on summer school if I'm correct...
Those are vent pipes on either side of that police call box. Typically for an underground electrical vault in the street. I used to work for SoCal Edison. We had those all over our territory.
I remember driving by Noble back in the 90's and thinking the same thing....no fence???? Anyone can just walk up to the school or a kid can just walk off...I was always worried about those kids.
I went to Holmes Jr. High.
There is an old time switch box near my Niece's apt in Los Feliz on Arbolada Rd. at Los Feliz Blvd. It's kinda hard to spot because it's painted green and blends in with the bushes.
Just watched your skateboarding video from a few months ago .
Wondering if you’ve done a location video about the skateboarding movie Dogtown
And Z-Boys filmed around Venice ?
Yup..used to skate at skate land.
Remember Skater cross in reseda?
Campuses are open, fights were no big deal, and Fred Rated for Federated on the TV.
Nobel its in Northridge.I went in 83😅
I remember that part of Sepulveda was always heavy traffic in the morning,It must be very old,my dads friend said that the early lights in LA actually had a sign that would pop out " stop" or "go"
Can you also document those air raid sirens ,I used to see them everywhere
Hey,do one on verdugo hills high many movies done there including rivers edge keano Reeves
Do you ever reference the important role the valley played in the adult film industry? I’m a new viewer so I don’t know if you stick to strictly Hollywood filming locations or not.
Went to Nobel! 92 - 96
Nobel Middle School is in Northridge, not Chatsworth. The border is half a mile away.
80s when California at is zenith. Started going down hill with grunge.
the munchbox is now a cultural monument.
Nobel is in northridge not Chatsworth 😇
@ 10:40 awesome story
Can you please find the location of the episode Chips This years rot filming location
Shouts out to crate paper!
I think you are thinking of Safari Surf and Skate.. a little further down on devonshire???
Go Team Crespi
I remember you could just walk into any school. Now you need 2 forms of ID, a social security card, birth certificate and a federal background check just to pick up your kid.
Noble High School is in Northridge not Chatsworth.
So the school is being demolished/??
I know those police call boxes. When I was a kid in late 70's some dick motorcycle cop stopped me and my brother on the corner of San Fernando Mission and Sepulveda because he was on his bike towing me on a skateboard with a rope. The dude couldn't find a law, so he used the call box on that corner to call in and try to find one. . . . . .there wasn't one, let us go
RTD: Rough Tough and Dangerous
