That's actually true as fuck. They keep doing videos together so they probably get along on at least a basic level, but they're always shitting on each other and communicating through a constant layer of sarcasm. It's either mild disdain or genuine friendship.
Part of how ian seems to socialize is through insults and jokes but he's not really all that serious about it. I think Ethan takes him too seriously which causes for some awkward chemistry between them....
There's definitely a subtextual pissing contest going on in these collab videos. Ethan's kind of a bully in a low key way, he tries to own people by eg drawing a swastika on their t-shirt, saying they have BO, goading them to eat a rancid strawberry, etc. Ian sometimes seems to sense when he's doing it and starts calling him a cunt. Other times he takes the bait and eats some rotten fruit from a dumpster. It's a fascinating dynamic and fun to watch.

Idubbbz really shaped my sense of humor and had a big influence on me in my more formative years. It’s sad that the culture on UA-cam has shifted so far to one side that hilarious creators like Ian and max and even H3 in some respects, have had to severely cut back on what made them so polarizing in the period that they were. I didn’t mention Filthy frank because he found another seemingly more creatively fulfilling venture, and his success as a UA-camr did not propel him to were he is as much as his actual musical talents and I’m very happy for him and the success he has found. I hope Ian is happy with his girlfriend and that he finds something as creatively fulfilling as before. I don’t think Idubbbz will see this, but if he does I want him to know how grateful I am for him always making me laugh even when I felt as low as can be.
P.s. the song played during the outro is one of the most beautiful sounds I’ve ever heard in my life.
