Anna of Cleves was the fourth wife, and a German princess. After mourning Jane Seymour, Thomas Cromwell had the artist Hans Holbein paint pictures of several women, one of whom was Christina of Denmark (later of Milan.) Henry chose the picture of Anna, and when she showed up in England, he surprised her by dressing up as a peasant like in an old tradition. She freaked out and yelled at him, humiliating him. To save his reputation, Henry claimed she was uglier than the picture and divorced her after only 6 months. Because she didn't protest the annulment, she was given a large settlement including several castles in England. Her musical inspirations are Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, and her color is red. The actress who plays her in the West End, Lexi Macintosh, is fantastic, and I would recommend checking her out. The next animatic is the K Howard roast, and then Katherine Howard's song, All You Wanna Do. It's an intense one, so be ready.
On this, King Henry viii also gave her the money to avoid sparking conflict between England and Germany. Also, Anna of Cleeves also slapped Henry at on point

Anne actually didn’t look too of from her portrait, obviously it looked a little better, but Henry disguised as a peasant to see her reaction as an English cliche, however Anne being German didn’t know about this, so she pushed him off. Henry being spiteful spread rumours and said she looked like a donkey to her face
They did marry, they just didn’t meet up and so when they did he didn’t like her and then divorced her
You also have to say that he kissed her cause it makes the situation worse.

Henry actually only blamed her looks, he divorced Anne of cleeves after 7 months, Anne of cleeves hurt his pride because she was german and Henry dressed up as a peasant because in English tales, two people would recognize their soul mate even in rags. Anne of cleeves didn't know. People said she was very pretty (expect for a few people who were forced by Henry)
Also she had a BUNCH of money, because of the prenup she was one of the richest people in England (even now if you translate the money value). She also lived the longest out of the queens

After Henry divorced Anne, he considered her as more of a sister instead of a wife and took pity on her so he bought her a house and gave her lots of money. She was pretty much the only wife who had a nice outcome after marrying Henry

I don't think think pity had anything to do with the way he treated her. He made a lot of enemies by divorcing his first wife. Basically, all of the Catholic world hated his guts. Marrying a German princess was at least an attempt to gain Protestant allies. If she had been sent back in disgrace, it would have been politically stupid.

Pity is not the right word, she ended up as a sister after the whole peasant debacle where she rejected his advances. She was incredibly knowledgeable so she got along with him afterwards. Pity is pretty inaccurate, way to simplified. She was not pitiable there was plenty reason for them to be close friends (making her a "sister" which gave her incredible status) The dude called her ugly because he was butthurt, not unusual for a man tbh.
Anne was German royalty, and Henry needed an alliance with another European protestant country, because France and Rome were united against him. He didn't really think of her as a sister, he just needed to placate her so William of Cleves (Anne's brother) didn't turn against him.
People are forgiving that after they divorced they stayed pretty good friends (and Mary was pretty good friends with her to) so she got a lot of money from Henry because he was decent enough to stay friends with her. Btw Mary actually cried out loud during Anna’s funeral.
OK, the Anne of Cleaves thing is complicated. Like so many things. First she wasn't rich. But she was Protestant. And by this time, Henry needed a protestant ally. 2nd, at the time Henry was 48 and Anne was 24. Henry, thinking he was still young handsome and all around awesome dude, decided to meet her in an English Folktale way. (keep in mind, she's German so this is not part of her culture.) He and his friends disguised themselves as some type of Robin Hood's merry men. In the folk tale, the princess knows instantly who the king is and he sweeps her off her feet and all that. What happened in reality is quite different. She looked at Henry, and in her own way said, "who is this old, ugly man, and where is my husband." I.E. - "you dirty rascal". Now keep in mind, this was the first time anyone had told the truth about Henry's looks and age, to his face. They still said he was young, strong and virile, instead of old, fat and gross. And she did this in front of his friends. So to save face, he said she was the ugly one, so ugly that he couldn't, ahem, perform.
What happened next was they got a divorce, annulment, whatever. But in return for not contesting it or trying to get out of it, Anne got land, money, a castle, and the title of "the king's dear Sister." That's how she got her wealth, and even better, freedom, as she had no man to tell her what to do. After the divorce, she got along with Henry, and along very well with his three kids.
Now to be a little fair to Henry, for Anne growing up in Germany, her upbringing was very different from his other wives. She couldn't sing, dance, play any instruments, play cards, or read very well, or speak English. All things he enjoyed in his wives, mistresses. Plus German clothing for women was very very modest compared to English clothing, so that didn't help. I'm not justifying Henry's actions just explaining.
Anna wasn't rich? Her father was the richest, most powerful prince in West Germany back then. She left Kleve with a dowry amounting to 100,000 gold Gulden, and a court of 263 people and 283 horses.
It is true that Anna had not enjoyed a formal education in arts (which her conservative family considered frivolities), but it's not true that she could barely read, or write. She had a perfectly functional education for a European princess, and she was innately clever enough to become fluent in English within a very short time.
The reason why she says "Get down, you dirty rascals" is because it's a reference to a nursery rhyme

Actually, yes and no. When Anna arrived in England, King Henry VIII dressed up as a peasant, kind of so it’d be like Anna recognizing him and falling in love with him despite the fact he was supposedly poor and then reveal to be the king. However, that’s an English tale, and Anna was from Germany, so when she saw a ugly fat peasant making moves on her, while she was engaged to the king, she was obviously disgusted. Henry was HUMILIATED. He tried to complain that she didn’t look like she did in her portrait, however they still got married. The first time they... um... went to bed, he complained the next morning that Anna’s body was so distorted he couldn’t sleep. They got divorced shortly after, quietly, as Henry bribed her, and the two of them had a brother-sister relationship afterwards.

Ok so Henry saw her picture and then he told them to bring her to him. Then when he saw her he said she didn't look like her picture (as you know) but then because he didn't want to loose his alliance with Germany, he still married her. Now there's a debate of her actually looking like her picture but when she came to England, Henry dressed up as a peasant and then she rejected Henry (not knowing the peasant was him, and why she says 'get down you dirty rascal') and that's why he complained about her not looking like her profile picture. Also it's Hans Holbein. Also this song is supposed to be after they broke up.

basically she did look like her painting but when she was going to the castle the king decided to dress up as a peasant and surprise while she was in her carriage. peasants wouldn’t just go up to a woman in a carriage. in the old english tales that was something the king would do to surprise their future wife but Anna was german so she wouldnt know the tales. she called him ugly and he was so butt hurt that he paid her off. i think they were married for a bit and there was a story that he kissed her before going to bed and usually that was the man saying that they wanted to do THE DEVIL’S TANGO!!! but again she wouldn’t know bc that’s an english tradition. not sure tho if that was her
Anne probably got it the best out of all the queens (and she owns it lol). I will not go too far into detail (Six in a Nutshell sums it up pretty well) but they still got married then divorced, and to avoid war (I think...?) He gave her a palace in Richmond and tons and tons of money.

Henry couldn't get out of marrying her cause he made an alliance with the house of cleves. It was to boost his political standings. They annulled the marriage 6 months later because according to henry, basically "she was to ugly for him to do his dutys" those dutys having a child with her.
But since she didn't care about them getting divorced he gave her lots of land and the palace in Richmond, she was also invited back to a ball where she danced with queen Katherine Howard.
So she basically had the best life with the king.
I love Anna’s character in this. Not only because I‘m German like her and I love hearing the German words in the lyrics (like „das ist gut“ means this is good) but I just love her personality so much. ^^

henry and anne became close friends even after their divorce. henry gave her the hever castle (anne boleyns childhood home). she was the kings beloved sister :).

OK BUT the part when they take annes jacket is really funny in stage (at least in the Broadway one lol) because the queens take off her jacket and shorts and she has a BEAUTIFUL outfit and she gotta be like one and a half minutes standing because the whole place is screaming and she is like "shut up lesbians I need to end this song" AND THEN SHE LAUGHS BEFORE SHE CONTINUES AND LIKE SHE IS LITERALLY BULLYING US AND WE KNOW IT AND WE LOVE IT JHAHSHSHS

Edit - if they ever do a "stunt" casting of Six, I would LOVE to see Lizzo play Anna, she's got the strut, and her song Tempo could mash up really well with "Get Down". Anna and Henry got hitched, but supposedly, they never consummated, so the divorce/annulment was *much* cleaner than it might have been.

Anne of Cleaves lived a full 10 years after Henry died. And she basically raised the daughters of Henry's other wives, I believe because she actually became fast friends of Kate Howard and Catherine Parr. (I could have that wrong.)

For "All you wanna do" I recommend definicious's video too, I like how they showed Katrin in it, and how story was showed there. I really felt... many emotions while watching it, so I really recommend it!
I searched for a bit, and while it wasn't said if Anna was rich or not, she was from family of the duke, and this family had really rich history. So maybe they had money. It was also said that after they divorced Henry gave her the castle and annual allowance so she definitely had money when she was alive.

I think his is one of my favorites because it shows exactly how life improved for her. She agreed to a divorce with the king and he gave her the ability to have her own life. She had no man in her life who could tell her what to do. She had her own money, lands, castle, and the king considered her to be a sister to him. She may not have stayed queen, but she kept her life and her dignity. Not many of his other wives could have claimed that.

It said that after Henry divorced her, they became a close friend. Cleves often came to visit (and sometimes babysit the kids) and get invited to holidays, even dancing with Katherine Howard (Wich was the new and 5th queen) at some point.

fun fact, Anna of Cleves outlived every other queen, including Catherine Parr, Henry's sixth wife who survived.
also, the only reason Henry married Anna, after mourning for Jane Seymour for two years, was because a kingdom is stronger with a king and a queen. He already got a son from jane, so he didn't need an heir, but if anything were to happen to Henry, the kingdom would be left to a child monarch which could easily be manipulated or even overthrown if the other nobles decided to take over (or Scotland because they had a claim to the throne as well), so it was just practical for Henry to find another wife to ensure security for his kingdom and succession.

Anne of Cleves (Anna Von Kleves) was actually very pretty. She was beyond beauty standards at the time, and had very good genes. She was a natural beauty as some described, and Hans Holbein made sure that was portrayed in her portrait. So it’s really ironic that Henry called her ugly, well not just ugly he called her “Flanders Mare” (Which is a large horse known for its size and strength used back in medieval wars. Or a mare can be described as a loose woman). But it is ironic because she was like the ideal woman for women of the day. She was basically the skinny, symmetrical faced, smooth skin, Victoria’s secret model that every Tudor woman wanted to be back in the day she was that pretty. But yeah I just find that really ironic that she’s famous for getting called ugly by a king.

to be honest she probably did look like her picture because Haus Holbein would not have risked his head to trick Henry VIII. Holbein remained the royal court portrait painter after this. I find the fact that Anne was not returned to Cleaves after the divorce very telling. She had so much more freedom being the divorced queen and living mostly away from.

Anne of cleves married henry, but not so long, after Jane died for 2-3 years, he decide to move on and try to married someone that was princess, like Catherine aragon that was a spain princess, Anne of cleves was german princess.
