But ok dw I guess that's fine it looks like you are just aiming the video towards the general public and not technically advanced people most likely like you and me

In my experience there are a handful of ways to get your foot in the door:
    1. Go to college - major in a stem field such as computer science. I’m really not a fan of the specialized cyber security degrees because the material is already outdated by the time you learn it. Stick with something like computer science and you should be good.
    2. Start from a help desk position and work your way up by self learning. As a help desk tech it will give you insight on how an organization works. You can work up to system administrator or network administrator by learning on your own and since you are already working at a company by offering to help the system admins. As you gain experience apply for new roles.
    3. Join the military. You can specify in your contract for a job in cyber security (offense or defense) just be sure to really look over your contract to ensure the job you think you are getting is actually what you have. Four or more years is a long time to work a job you don’t like.
This isn’t the end all be all of ways to get in the industry. Lots of resources online to look through. Good Luck!

To better understand my question, is it best to find these programs online or it a purchasable disk?

Look up on google cyber security tools and most are free or have a free version and you can test them at your home for pen testing and more. Definitely make a home lab if you are gonna do penetrating or create a virtualization lab through VMware, VirtualBox or something so that you don’t get in trouble.

You don’t need to go to school and get degree in order to get a job in cybersecurity! Most of the time if you have good networking or system administration experience , that would be enough . I have interviewed many candidates before with masters in cybersecurity, most of them have lack of understanding core fundamentals networking and systems. You can’t secure environment, if you don’t know how it works

    • @Ginger_Spicy_Candor

Everyone is not a networking engineer. There are some roles in cyber that don’t even touch networking. Understanding how a computer works is not limited in a degree but the candidates you interviewed might have only studied policy instead of hands on labs.

This video is biased and inaccurate pushing people to do a degree in cyber-security which would benefit your sponsor (the person paying you). Most people that work in cyber security have a lot of experience and security certifications. If you get a masters degree in cyber security with no experience you will start in a entry level IT position such as help-desk, regardless of qualifications. It would be ideal to get an entry level job to gain experience, then get certifications and then possibly a degree if it is right for your and your employer may potentially support this. Shame on you for this video thumbs down from me.

She’s not wrong at all. I know people who got a Masters in Cybersecurity and had hands on virtual machine environments and got entry level positions IN cyber with large companies.
