    I can't decide if my favorite part is the falls that were completely rider error, or the few horses who lost their rider and then proceeded to continue running the pattern unaware they're missing something xD

    a crazy recurring theme I'm noticing in this is that all the riders are super, super violent with their spurs and bit aids. in the slow motion parts of the videos, you can see the aggravation on the horses faces and how often they flick their tails. but props to the girl at the end for petting her horse. now thats a good rider.

      Ugh I know. There’s so many horses with spur marks and crap and one horse at my barn was being kicked so hard with spurs that she was bleeding on both of her sides. Whips are a different story. None of us at my barn never really use whips unless we’re lightly tapping it on our leg or the horses shoulder to get it to jump or whatever but then there’s the people that barrel race and jockeys (of which are complete animal abusers. They drug their horses, they run them at such a young age so they’re knees become deformed, etc) and stuff that just whip their horses over and over and over. If it hurts you then it hurts the horse. Horses pain receptors are closer to the surface than humans so it doesn’t really matter how big of an animal they are. It still hurts them
      Thank you for reading my speech 😂

    In whatever video it is that the person gets caught in their stirrup and dragged for a bit a feel like that arena attendant should be fired. She was standing less than a meter from the horse. Could have easily walked forward and taken the reins to save that woman from being dragged. People die that way. What an absolute doofus.

  • @alwaysmmmusic

    I also like the part at 4:40 where the woman that thought she was too good for a helmet, or too cool, or whatever stupid excuses they always give, flew right out of the saddle and hit her head. No matter how long you've been riding, no matter how many ribbons you've won, no matter how much you trust your "bombproof" horse, you never know what situation you'll end up riding through, and when a bad spill eventually happens, you'll need the protection of a helmet. I'd rather keep riding my horse than start riding a wheelchair, thank you very much.

    A. improper bit/saddle fit

    C. rider error/incorrect balance/too much horse for them
    D. horrible arena footing

    As a barrel racer, I do not see a whole lot of training or work ethic done here. I see most of the riders falling due to not sitting "deep" in their saddle. Granted I know everyone trains differently but leaning forward to much causes you to lose balance and lose control of your horse, because your busy worring about your position and now the pattern as i saw in some of these runs. Also, the over used kicking, spurring and quirts (whip) Is clearly not needed for most of these runs either. The horse was already running full out trying to do its best. Its never the horses fault for accidents like this to occur, and its sad to see some fellow barrel racers take it out on their horse. But a big congrats to the girl who rewarded her horse for trying at the end, thats true teamwork, to forgive and forget..but to try another day!

    Why dont you show the beauty, grace and athletisim of this rodeo sporting event. The competitors, both the riders and the horses, put it on the line every time they enter the arena. Both horses and riders are true athletes! And in all sporting events, accidents happen!

    • @aninec3958
      @aninec3958 7 років тому

      Some are good athletes, but not all. Amateur barrel racers come in every flavor and the sport is filled with poor horsemanship. I barrel raced from childhood into my 40's and at every single amateur even I ever attended there was a collection of riders who either soured their horse and had to trick them into the arena, horses that were not trained and had to be jerked around, or riders that used very harsh tack. On top of all that, very few of the riders, including kids, wear protective gear, like helmets and vests, even though it is very common for a horse to fall in this event.

    • @teganr641
      @teganr641 7 років тому

      Because we don't shed enough light on all the dumbasses in the industry. Horses have no choice but to put it on the line and the riders think they're all tough and cool. The sport itself isn't bad, but honestly many showpeople (maybe even the majority) are self-centered and only care about attention, prizes, and showing off. This applies to all horse sports. People need to see the immense ugliness that takes place in these sports. I love equine sports, but I am ashamed of many of the people that participate in them and how they treat their animals. People say their horse "loves his job" but there is no way to determine that. He is most likely doing what you tell him. it's something we tell ourselves so we can feel good. Not to mention the equipment they use. This shit needs to be made more public if anything (in all disciplines). What causes so much abuse in the horse industry is because we glorify way too much about it.

    A lot of these horses slip because they are simply too big for barrel racing. Shorter, stockier horses have a much easier time making turns like that. As much as some people love barrel racing (myself included) you have to realize when you don't have the right horse for it (myself included). You might run a big horse at the barrels a thousand times and never have it slip on you, but generally the turns are way harder on them then they would be on a smaller horse

    Things I learned when I used to barrel race.
    1. Most of the time the horses are taught nothing but to run barrels. This “craze-wires” them, hence why they start acting antsy right before the race. THIS ISN’T A GOOD THING. They’re far too intelligent to force them to run around stupid barrels their entire lives. Put yourself in their shoes. Would you not start feeling crazy after running in tight circles (usually being spurred and whipped violently as well) for years on end?
    2. Barrel racers are notorious for having poorly fitted saddles. You get a lot of sudden “unexplained” bucking because of this as well as saddles suddenly coming loose and slipping . Too tight or too loose cinches, too small or too big saddles, crappy saddle pads, saddles that aren’t positioned correctly, etc. I never attended a barrel race event where no-one had saddle problems at one point or another.
    3. Barrel racers have terrible balance. They rely on nothing but the saddle horn and reins to keep balance, so you see a lot of horses gaping their mouthes as their stupid riders tear their mouthes up going around the turns.
    4. Many barrel racers claim that the majority of barrel racers don’t hit their horses, but the opposite couldn’t be more true. It is accepted openly in the barrel racer community to kick and whip your horse. The funny thing is that hitting your horse rarely even makes them go faster, so you’re just beating your horse for no reason :P

    The first one made me so sad but happy because the horse tried so hard not to fall and didn't spook or throw off its rider even though it would've been so panicked and you could see even when she pulled him back he just wanted to go for it and actually loved to run those barrels!!! He was just such a good horse about the whole mistake which was primarily the riders fault as per usual but yeah it just makes me happy to see horses that don't throw their riders when scared or spook etc

    I'm an English rider but my mom is a western rider but I still KNOW a lot about this sport. Barrel racing is so dangerous for those who don't know what they are doing. Idc if they person is hurt I care about the horse bc horses can be replaced for like surgery for bones like humans.

  • @Emma-gv9qw
    @Emma-gv9qw 9 років тому +4

    Most of these could have been prevented by being gentler on and with the horse. Others could have been caused by not having their hands in the right position(s) at and between the barrels bc you need two hands and one hand at certain times

    • @christysteckline5014
      @christysteckline5014 7 років тому +1

      Paige Doyle-Elwell Actually a barrel saddle is made for that. When making such sharp turns we use it for balance and to help the horse make a better, easier turn. It allows them to have more head movement since the rider is only holding on on one side.

    All I got to say is IDC what your doing just where a helmet. Also stop putting back on the reins. It does not help. it just makes the horse fight back and your riping your horses face off. Also don't try to stop the horse when the Rider falls because horses don't run forever. Do think the horse will stop if you stand in front of it because it won't.

    Some of you guys are ridiculous for thinking this is horse abuse. It's a sport. And if some of these people knew their horse and how to ride properly it probably wouldn't have happened. It's not horse abuse. Most horses love the sport they do. I have a filly who's a year old and loves to jump and run and "dance" if you will, so she will be trained in jumping, dressage and barrel racing. She loves all of it. If you don't own or ever had a horse, you honestly have no room to judge or critic any equine sport or the people involved. Sorry to say but you don't know how well most of us care for and love our horses.

    • @coollikegrass2489
      @coollikegrass2489 5 років тому +1

      Yea it's a sport, and yes some horses can enjoy it, and yes when properly trained it is not abusive.
      But how can you call putting a shank bit in a horses mouth and yanking all over the place enjoyable or love? Or, since you brought up dressage, forcing a horse into submission and cranking it's head in with LDR? That's some nice love and I bet horses just enjoy that

  • @summercraft6144
    @summercraft6144 5 років тому

    They are either jerking the head to much, interfering with the reins to much, stirrups are to short, or they get the horse too excited. Use two hands on the reins. Have the stirrups long, don't yank on the bit, and let the horse do his job

  • @McJLady23
