I'm turning 50 this summer. Both of my parents are still alive and turning 80 in the fall. Having them still here makes us feel like we are still kids and don't have to grow up. I hear you when you're thinking about life and how short it is. You're not alone GIV. All of us, no matter where we are in the world, at this age, are feeling the same way. We aren't middle aged. Middle aged at 50 would mean we'd live to be 100. Enjoying life while we are here is what it's all about.

That's a steel mill. They smelt iron ore into steel "pigs" for further processing elsewhere, or they transfer the molten iron to the steel furnace in those sideways longer cars called "bottle cars."
There they blast the iron with oxygen and mix some other stuff and voila! Out come steel ingots or bars, which are often rolled on site into sheets rolled into coils.
The rail cars that look like pots are for what they call slag, the impurities they dump in a pile. That can be used later for making asphalt and other materials.
I grew up in a German steel town in Pennsylvania, USA. Just about that whole town is abandoned now, not just the steel mills and coal mines.

Yes I enjoy all you content… Venice Beach, Hollywood Blvd, Redeo drive, your hobbies, Germany. GIV people love you, your UA-cam content and your channel will continue to grown because you are authentic! Your channel is not popular because of Venice Beach, it’s because you are real, people love your personality and you bring a smile to peoples faces!

Your home area of Germany looks very beautifull and friendly , and your mum is lovely , that old steelworks was fascinating but it makes me sad , because it seems like you guys have made the same mistakes as Britain , moving our manufacturing out to China etc will give us big regrets very soon .

    You are a good son!
I enjoyed the tour through the old plant but wondered if it was shut down due to environmental regulations or foreign competition. Or, it was just outdated and no longer profitable on the domestic market?
There must be quite a story there and history.
    BTW that breakfast looked good!

Thanks for visiting the factory, it was nice to see the industrial heritage there. The item you didn't know the English for is a Steam Roller it would be a Traction Engine if it had 4 wheels. The "poison ivy" you saw was actually "stinging nettle" and you can eat that just needs slight preparation.

It's not true that it's always cold and raining in Germany. Climate change actually made Central Europe in relation warmer than any other spot on the earth. It's very hot and dry in summer (often times getting to 40°C/104° *without* any air condition in private homes) and wildfires are a massive problem now. GiV only remembers the weather from 30 years ago when he left Germany. It has changed a lot. The wasp at 7:40 is trying to get cellulose out of the wood to mix it with its saliva to build a nest. Wasp nests are like paper. 8:03 not poison ivy (doesn't exist in Germany) but stinging nettle. I like urbex and the abandoned stell mill and the furnace are sad but impressive to see.
