Thanks Steve. I usually work on 3 or 4 builds at the same time. Sometimes they get finished within a day or two of each other. I'll slow down soon to get the garden planted.
Has there ever been a item you tried but just couldn't turn into an instrument? I don't play fiddle but that one would suit me just fine for learning and playing.Sounded good to me.
That turned out great! Looks like it was sturdy enough after all. Is there a soundhole anywhere? Not too “nasally,” either. I wouldn’t mind having a go on it and the last gourd fiddle you made.
Thanks Noah. I added some internal bracing to strengthen the box. There's a sound hole on the side close to the player's ear. I didn't want to mess up the top. Also, I made a shorter fingerboard to keep "old time" visible. Most of us don't get in 7th position anyhow, lol
That’s great. I kinda figured maybe you added a hole in the side as you said or even the back. I think the top and sides were cedar, with the back being a plywood. Yeah, I too liked the “old time” name. It fits lol.
@@NoahCline Yup, plywood bottom, cedar (possibly redwood?) sides, but the top turned out to be pine. Used to take me 2 hours to make a radiused fingerboard but I knocked this one out in less than an hour!
I did for this one since I didn't have any others handy. I often use ebony ones from China which are only around $10. Takes a little more time to make them but that way I can use scrap pieces laying around the shop.
❤
That's great. Seems like you're stepping up production. Every time I open UA-cam there is a new build from Jim!

Thank you. I figure just about anything can be made onto an instrument. Some of them don't quite make the grade sonically though.

Awesome little fiddle! Do you make your own fingerboards?
