Treating Kidney Disease

- In this session, Dr. Judy shares Day 4 of Kidney Awareness Week. Today she covers treatment for Kidney Disease. She shares that each treatment plan will vary depending on the stage of the disease. The foundation of treating kidney disease is fluids. Therefore, the key is to stay away from dry kibble as this is absolutely inappropriate for these animals. Normally, treatment begins with the giving of fluids for up to 48 hours and then running lab work again. This can be problematic for pets with comorbidities as the extra fluids may not be beneficial to other organs such as the heart. Medications may be given to help regulate the blood pressure and help with nausea. It is also important to monitor both Potassium and Vitamin D levels. (Recorded on 3/17/2022)

I’m so glad I found your channel. My vet did all the required chemistry, urinalysis and cbc. However, the diagnosis was “beginning stage” CKD. According to the parameters you outlined, he is in stage 2. After listening to you (and taking many notes), I am very optimistic that I can be proactive in keeping him in optimal health rather than waiting for symptoms to appear. Thank you. My Beau (13 yr old kitty) means so much to me. Thank you.
Your site is the ONLY place I can find 60mg COQ10 please always continue to sell it! I buy 3 bottles at a time. My furr babies and I appreciate you
that's one of the first things my vet did was to recommend Hill's which is horrible stuff but I have been giving him this special dry kibble...but not anymore. I am limited income senior so $185 blood test is ok once in a while but I am already in credit card debt over this. I found really great herbal kidney restore that brought down his numbers.
What is the name of herbal kidney restore?
So wish you could tell us what herbal product you're using??
They might be talking about Kidney Restore.
Thank you ♥️🐕 sharing
I was suffering from similar issue in the past, but I'm glad it has been fixed.
Thank you so much for your work! ❤. No seriously, THANK YOU!! ❤❤
Most useful video so far. We were told our bsby bpt had chronic pancreatitis & collitis. He's always been superfit except for tummy issues, then went to vet due to blood in urine & told kidney cancer go home nothing we can do. However, he's bounced back & thpugh we u/s he's still v ill we obv want to do what we can, so this is so helpful thankyou 🙏💞
Hello Dr. Judy, thank you much for posting this video and sharing your knowledge on kidney desease with us.. Much appreciated. My 15 year old Yorkie was just found to have protein in his urine and slightly elevated enzymes in his pancreas and liver. The doctor said the next step is an ultrasound. He going on vacation , sonce his peice are reasonable ( I'm on S.S.) I've opted to wait for his return in August. He assured me that it would be just fine to wait.
So, my lil Gizmo hasn't been "diagnosed" with kidney desease but my gut tells me its more than likely to be his Kidneys. As soon as I know if its his Kidneys then Ill order the product for hopefully stage 1. I'll order the RX TENO , Gizmo is 9lbs. Again, I thank you very much, I needed this informations BIG TIME!
❤Thank you!
Any thought on ubiquinol form of CoQ10?
My dog was on Fluid therapy for 3 days, her toxic levels went down to half. She seems much better but with in days she went downhill again and stopped eating again. Vet suggested another 48h flush :-( she is back home for a week now and so far she is still eating but not 100% she basically sleeps all day . I ask the vet about giving fluids at home but Vet told me this is not something they do here in the UK. She is on raw food and i give her phosphorus binder, Probiotics and other supplements.
My situation is similar to yours. I switch my dog to Dr. Harvey's Canine Health homecook pre mix foods to ensure she gets a balanced diet? I also use the kidney healthakng with Dr. Harvey's Omega 3 fish oil in the pump.
Same boat here and 4 weeks in things ate looking better. I live near the Mexican border and they sell the Sodium Cloride .09% so a carry it across with the perscription. Maybe you know a farmer? Think outside the box
My dog is 60 pounds.
I give her 1000ml at a time, sometimes 500ml daily.
She's on Sucralfate 1 gram ground up.
Phosphate binders Azodyl
Ipaktine
Renal K
It's working
@@vagabondabbie home fluid therapy is not allowed here in the UK ( €€$$££) I guess , anyway my dog sadly passed away, he was only 7y and in my care for only 2y
WE TRIED TO DO THE IV FOR THE FULL DAY AT THE VET THEN BROUGHT HER HOME TOOK HER BACK THE 2ND DAY AFTER THE 2ND DAY SHE DIDNT GET BETTER AND WAS IN SOME PAIN , SO WE HAD TO PUT HER DOWN , WE GOT TO SPEND ONE LAST DAY AND NIGHT WITH HER, THE DOCTOR GAVE HER PAIN MEDICINE SO SHE WAS NOT IN PAIN THE LAST DAY WITH US..
IT HURTS WE HAD TO PUT HER DOWN . I FEEL LIKE WE FAILED HER .. ITS HARD AND HURTS .
I know the feeling…..I had to put my dog down too with kidney failure. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do and I felt like I could have done more
@@stevenwilliams2906 MOST DEFINITELY I FEEL YOUR PAIN.
THE HURT & PAIN DONT GO AWAY EITHER . I GET SOME COMFORT KNOW THAT WHEN WE GOT MY DOG WE SAVED HER THE PREVIOUS OWNER WAS GOING TO LET HER DIE . BUT I ASK HIM TO GIVE HER TO ME , HE DID . THAT WAS BACK IN 2016 SO WE GAVE HER ANOTHER 8 YEARS OF LIFE AND BELIEVE ME WE SPOILED HER .
SO I UNDERSTAND YOUR PAIN . 🙏
Sorry 😢for your loss

Can you use the herbal supplements with renal food?
Please help me
It was through God that I found you. You just came on. I was told today that my little Yorkshire Terrier had end stage renal disease. I am taking good notes Dr. Morgan. I was a Nurse and in pharmaceuticals all of my life. However, I am scared to death. Thank you so much, Susan from Canada 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. PS. The only thing I question is that her platelets, red blood cells white blood cells etc. we’re all normal. Unfortunately she does have a stage two heart murmur and she has been on cerenia for two years. Any thoughts? Thank you so much
Though overwhelming, this is helpful. My 13 y/o Boston was recently diagnosed with early stage kidney disease. His blood work before a recent surgery was fine, but a few months post surgery his Creatinine went from 1.4 to 2.0 w/ no change in diet. My vet put him on a prescription diet which I've been doing with HIlls dry K/D. I understand now that it's not ideal given the fact that they need more moisture in their diet. New blood work shows on Hills (for a month) his Creatinine went back down to 1.5, but the IDEXX SDMA shot up from 13 to 18. Not sure how to interpret that!
I love it how I have to tell my vet that my recently diagnosed CKD cat shouldn't be given kibble.
Hi Dr. Judy - is there a specific kind of CoQ10 for dogs? Or is it the same ones used for supplements for humans?
hi wonder if you found any, i decide to go with now 30mg
Do you recommend Standard Process Rena food for kidney care.
I bought this as well. I hope she answers.
Yes, I have a several cats with kidney failure and every Vet has recommended Standard Process. (Every because I had moved a few times through the years). I also give my current kitty grass fed Kefir, freeze dried Kidney, Azodyl, Mushroom somethin' somethin' (name?) pills and LOTS Of love! Side note: this video prompted me to get Pet Wellbeing Kidney Support Gold for Cats..which I used over 7 years ago on my last Cat with KD who lived to 21...we had to give him Sub Q daily for 4 years but it helped and he got used to it, my little guy now is about to get them within the ext 6 months. I hate doing it but it truly help flush their little kidneys. Ask you Vet. Best of luck!
Hello dr Mi perrito tiene 5 años, creo que tiene exceso de saliva cuando se levanta hace ruido como si estuviera tragando, lo lleve al dr y me dice que puede ser acidez , , que le podría dar
Is goat milk ok for kidney and heart disease (both stage 1) for dogs?
yes
My vet recommended Welactin omega-3 oils , but it's in a plastic bottle. Should I discontinue that and find a different fish oil? Also my dog is on thyroid medication. Can he take CoQ10, the Dr. Harvey's kidney powder and his thyroid meds together? Thank you in advance.
I would not use oil in a plastic bottle. All those can be given together.
@@judymorgan4241 thank you so much for your response and time
Do you recommend Dr Harvey's food for kidney diseased dogs ?
They recommend their Canine Health.
Yes she DOES!
Dr Harvey's food and kidney health powder is awesome!
What about the different kinds of water?! Would that make any difference?! I purchased a product call liquid vet for bladder and kidney issues it’s go cranberry and a few other things but im confused cuz it’s go sodium chloride in it…WOULDNT I wanna avoid salt?!
I buy my cat gallon jugs of spring water. As soon as I stopped tap water and gave spring water he started drinking more water so I’ve kept this up.
Hi, my dog is really sick. I noticed when he was very lethargic like he had the flu and I took him to the doctor the next day. His gallbladder was full of sludge and his liver level was high. They put him on medication‘s, and by the time I got him to the surgery it had already affected his kidneys, now it’s just his kidneys that we’re worried about and his blood is low because he is in kidney failure that bad. I’m still trying to work with him I bought the vitamins that lower the phosphates I see you have some other ideas I could add. Not sure if it’s too late but I’m still hoping he could get better. I spent so much money to help him while I’m in debt because I just thought he still had a chance to survive, any suggestions at this point?

My dogs sdma is in normal range of 11, his bun are normal except slightly elevated urea but his upc was high, blood pressure is normal, I've been advised prescription renal diet and retest upc in 4-6 after renal diet this worries me as he's been on a raw diet for 6 years. Is there a supplement that can help with high protien in the urine?
There is absolutely no reason to feed a horrible, low-protein renal diet with an SDMA of 11. Look for other causes of protein in the urine. You can also get an abdominal ultrasound to look at the kidneys.
@@judymorgan4241 my Basset right kidney on an ultrasound said "reduced corticomedullary distinction". He has proteinuria.
I don't know what to do!
