  • Doc reviews a new large capacity spreader. LINKS → www.howtowithd...
Each year we bring in some new lawn equipment. This year we needed a good quality, large capacity lawn spreader. The new PRO MODEL lawn spreader is a great mid priced large lawn spreader. Doc reviews it and shows the assembly of the spreader.

Hang on I just bought the Anderson’s cylinder style spreader because you said it was great. I think I’m gonna keep it since I like it. What standing does it hold against this new one?

I have 2 Earthway Ev-n-Spreads. Both have the cylindrical hopper perfect for small yards. My first purchase has plastic wheels, the second has pneumatic tires and a side spread control option (right side disperse). They are both spot on if you weigh the product for the area and use the factory setting for the lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. If your budget supports, I recommend the pneumatic tires . I reworked the plastic wheel model with parts from Earthway and use it for a loaner.

Could you provide any information on a spreader that would be capable of spreading sand for light to moderate lawn leveling?

Upgraded last year to a bigger spreader. Makes a HUGE difference. Went with the Agri-Fab i like it.

Bought the agri fab a year ago after seeing it on your website. It is a huge piece of shit. Sold it online for 1/3 price paid. Really the cheap Scott’s at Home Depot work better. It would drop huge piles in the yard, killing off spots. It was terrible, my recommendation is to choose anything else. Have to buy something else soon.

We've had it for two years and no issues. Like we said in the video... it is now a little "grindy" sounding.

@@HowTowithDoc I may have gotten a lemon. Mine was grindy too and squeaked like an old hen after about 6 months. But worse it would dump piles everywhere and required constant fidgeting. Just my experience. Have you tried the Echo spreader? I have read good things and MSRP is about $100. I have to buy another spreader this year. Thanks for the tests

Love my Agri-Fab . Went through too many crappy SCOTTS spreaders Cheapos junk can't get parts for Scotts . Spend the money for a good one . Only problem with the Agri-Fab is it's heavy when full, Thinking about a tow behind Agri-Fab. I hope it's as good quality as the push.

I do not have Bermuda grass but I just bought some black jack bermuda. Can I just throw the seeds on top of my existing grass come March or April or will I have to rent an equipment and completely leave my yard in soil before I seed?

Quick question for Doc or anyone; I live in Washington State, it's pretty rainy and damp for most of the year here, weeds on our lawn are quite hard to keep away; would an intentional pH change, either up a bit, or down a bit, enough to make the ground unfit for local weeds, and a choice of grass that will thrive under a more basic soil or more acidic soil, would this work? Has this been done by anybody?

Hey Doc for some reason I had a dream last night and I saw Super Juice and other Andersons products on the shelf a home depot, I wish that it was real

I’ve got the one that looks like the Agri Fab from Tractor Supply. My main want was metal gears which this one has and most of the big box brands don’t. Only problem is none of the fertilizer manufacturers list settings for this spreader. Just had to figure it out for myself and I always err to the light side and go over the areas until product per square footage is covered.

Excellent review, comparison and explanations Doc. I've had the same EW for over 15 years and walk an acre of turf with it. It has held up fabulously with little to no maintenance. It does not come with a side deflector but there is one available as an accessory.
