Seriously, this song was originally written in French. I grew up with it then learned what it all meant. The English is not a translation but still impactful. It doesn’t do it justice, in my opinion. “The entire world trembles with anticipation “ a line from the first verse. Pull up the French lyrics then copy paste into google translate. It might help you get the poetry and impact. My favorite Christmas carol, bar none.
Oh Holy Night is my favorite Christmas song. I loved hearing your voice as you taught the lesson. I met my wife over 40 years ago in a Beginning Piano class in college.
Listening to and learning your 3 versions I must say that your interpretation of the song is absolut fantastic! In this song, I start understanding arpegios - played with right or left hand gives the song a different texture. Needless to say that you have an amazing voice too
Excellent explanations of the application of broken chords for either the right or the left hand. The arpeggios render the song alive and sweet, and soothing sounding. A very useful takeaway technique for interested players.
OMG! Your voice got me. Thanks a lot, this really triggered my Spirit for Christmas this year. I think playing both ways will be nice, I can start playing with notes as a kind of intro, then maybe sing along and play on chords.
I agree that your voice is angelic. I like your clear explanation of teaching how to play the song . I like the broken chords. You are so dedicated to your ministry. May God continue to bless you in your gift.
We came for the piano and left loving the voice. Dry production audio, no fancy studio processing, yet great... and we want to hear the entire piece with you playing and singing. At least we got a teaser at the end!
Lisa, I love the fact that I'm learning such enlightening ways and methods to play a piece of music. Oh! and like everyone else I could listen to your singing voice forever! mx
Thank God, I found this video! I was asked to do a solo for Christmas Eve Mass and I was looking for a fairly simple accompaniment for my singing of this song and this is perfect! God bless for your tutorial!!!
Thanks for this cool video! I have been working on Oh Holy Night as my Christmas song this year. I started on it before seeing your video. I play it with arpegios in the left hand but as G-B-D G-B-D B-G-D B-G-D etc. I play 2 notes at a time in the right hand for the first half and 3 from the E minor on. I'm gonna have to try the accompanying part.
I’m a Vietnamese. I love your channel, and I am learning your lesson, and this song. I will try to play this song smoothly for next Noel. Thanks my Teacher. I love you.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful - Please, sing more. One, you have a gorgeous-tagious voice and 2nd, the signing is familiar and really helps in the timing and transitions. Thank you so much.
She makes it seem so easy to play.. as if you could just go on and on with playing and it actually helps in motivating me to practice😍 Thanks Lisa for the tutorial! You are amazing🥰
Aww thanks for the reply and Happy New Year to you too... I have a small request can you look into a Song by Camila Cabello- Bad Thing and Cannon in D and listen to Bad things as I know heard cannon in D already and tell me what you notice haha...of course when you get a chance
You have such a beautiful voice..... I am a Pianote member and I absolutely love the way you teach... Your personality and the easy to understand style is hard to beat.
Thankyou so much for this tutorial! I am playing O Holy Night as an accompaniment this Christmas, never played it before and was terrified as a lot of sheet music is full on. This is the answer I needed, not complex and sounds great.🙏🙏
a year later I'm still find myself going back to this lesson. my favourite way to play this song is the accompaniment version. but I mainly stay in root position for the chords. this year I'm gonna work on playing using a few inversions so the transition between chords sounds smoother.
What a perfect time for me to buy my Kawai digi piano. One of my all time favourite songs, with lessons from an Angel 😇 ..... . What more in life could anyone ask for. Absolutely Beautiful. Merry Christmas and God Bless, and thank you so much.
Oh my goodness. You are fabulous! I can only play piano minimally and gave my piano away a couple years ago. (I'm not sorry; it went to a really good home to a very dear lady who moved from out of state and had to leave her piano behind.) But your cheerful instruction makes me wish I still had it to try this out. Merry Christmas, and thank you for your wonderful work!!!
It sounds really nice as played for accompaniment. And you have a beautiful voice. Perhaps you can do a cover of you singing it fully? Anyway, thank you, Lisa. It was a pleasure to hear you sing.
My favorite Christmas song!!! Thanks for putting this great lesson together. Now I can start practicing it. And your singing was like an angel. Thank you!!! Merry Christmas!!! P.S. I think I'll be playing this all year long!!! Yikes!
Thank you for this lesson. And, as others have already pointed out, your voice is gorgeous! It is very soothing. I would love a whole Christmas album with your vocals. Merry Christmas!
This is sounds so lovely. Thank you for the uploading. You have a beautiful voice! God bless you! I would love to see you play and sing the whole song in the accompaniment version.
Merry Christmas Lisa... Love you loads..... You're an awesome player and i really look forward for your videos .... You're teaching style boosts me to learn piano... 🥰👌
Thank you for sharing! I have never understood "G over B", (would that be "1 over 3"?) but have always loved that sound. I also would love to hear you perform the song in its entirety, perhaps with all 3 techniques??? What a gift you have! Beautiful voice!
I like to play it accompaniment style because I find it easier to play arpeggios in my right hand. Both ways sound great though. Thanks for the lesson.
Very nice tutorial for the beginers, but if you wanna play it with the right fingering , you have to use your 4th finger of the right hand too. For example , C major chord second inversion at the right hand with notes in order: G C E G --> 1 2 4 5 is sometimes better, and for A minor chord first inversion (notes in order at the right hand : C E A C) its Definitelly 1 2 4 5 for the arpegio. Generally for some chord inversions it is better to use the 4th finger instead of 3d. Just have it in mind in case you are about to copy the fingering you see on the video. I know you may find it hard or useless, but you have to train that forth finger and those arpegios are a very nice exercise to do so (especially since its a slow tempo). Other than that , happy upcoming 2022 to everybody !
Hey Lisa (or anyone else who may know), is there a rule of thumb we can learn on the chord inversions? Is there a way to know when to use a chord inversion vs. the regular chord? Anyway, this is one of my wife’s fav Christmas songs so I can’t wait to play it for her!
I actually like hearing the melody note on the top of the inversion and helps me pick the position . Hope that's helpful . Sometimes it's just for a quick easy transition also .🙂
So many thanks! I was looking for a good tutorial of this song, I'm begginer playing piano, but this tutorial is amazing, and your voice is so sweet. 💜

I cannot listen to this song without crying, and I don't even know why. It's literally the only song that does that to me.
The minor chords draw emotions.
It almost always makes me cry, too. And, yes, it’s the only song that does that.
Seriously, this song was originally written in French. I grew up with it then learned what it all meant. The English is not a translation but still impactful.
