- Caiques aren’t a good starter bird, in my view.
They are amazing fun-loving, friendly and strong-minded birds. This makes it easy to be strong armed by their will, unless you are used to parrots and you understand how to handle them and their potential bite.
However, when you know how to handle them, this is a fantastic species, an ideal companion.

Caiques are hilarious! I’ve heard they’re very aggressive with other birds though; have you found that?
I don't see them going after other birds, but they are hard-headed
No Caiques are not monsters. But, I think they have strong personalities. They love attention and love toys. All of mine are very smart and learn pretty quickly. It’s also very important to learn to read your bird’s body language and pay attention to their eyes. Training requires patience and being consistent. I think Caiques may take a little longer as they have a very short attention span. The one thing I’ve learned is once something else becomes more interesting to the bird, stop. They don’t usually make a good first bird. But, I think once you form that special relationship it will forever have your heart. I have also found that when they do become riled up playing calming classical music helps. Like any pet you have to do research and if possible talk to owners. And, obtain your bird from someone interested in finding it the best home. Not someone who’s just looking to make money.
