    Running a motor off just from the light in the room? As an experienced electronics hobbyist I can surely say it is absolutely amazing! Mind Blown! Nice Work Man!

    I would love to see what kind of properties the flyback pulse would have. Perhaps charge a small battery? At least view them on a 'scope.

    I need to build a similar device. But when energized to only turn CW and/ on demand- to rotate CCW, - not continuous.
    I subscribed, and will check out your other videos. Thanks!

    Should all the neodymium magnets be in same size
    I have those magnets in different sizes. Will it work

    • @heavycurrent7462
      @heavycurrent7462 5 років тому

      The rotor must be balanced and has an even distribution of weight across it, otherwise it will vibrate terribly and cause additional friction. Also, different sizes and shapes of magnet will also have different dimensions and magnitudes of magnetic field. The reed switch will not behave consistently hence, for sometimes it would close early and sometimes late, depending on the magnet that is affecting it. So the coils would not fire accurately either.

    What method did you use to wind the thousands of turns? Not by hand I hope

    Can get the coil from burned light low power neon or led lights!!

    Nice 👍. Are all the four magnets set in specific polarity?

    • @tonyfremont
      @tonyfremont 3 роки тому

      I suspect they are all the same orientation, and the cooks wired such that they produce the same polarity (such as North facing the magnets, with the magnets having North facing away from the rotor. Perfect 90° spacing of the magnets and 180° spacing of coils, combined with careful placement of the reed switch allows adjustment of the speed/power consumption of the motor. Even though the current didn't increase, power consumption doubled when the voltage was increased. By my calculations, at 25uA average, it should run for several years on a single AAA battery.

    If you would add $Thanks, I would be glad to make a donation to support you doing more of these, with precise measurements and calculations.
    At 1 volt and tens of microAmperes, this is more properly (or also) a microWatt motor. If you are at 0.5 Volts and 25 microAmperes, that is (0.5 Volts)*(25 microAmperes) = 12.5 microWatts. You can use the rate of rotation of the motor as a precise voltage measure, if you can also measure the current precisely.
    A solar cell of that size (you should put a link) in full sunlight might be 0.5 Watt and up to 8 volts. I see many about that size but with ratings all over the place. I am looking at one on Amazon that says 100 milliAmpere and 5 Volt which is 0.5 Watt. But that is probably full sunlight rating. If sunlight is about 1000 Watts/meter^2. If your indoor light is at 10 Watts/meter^2 and your solar cell about 2x2 inches (50 mm * 50 mm) or (0.05 meters * 0.05 meters) That is somewhere in the order of (10 Watts/meter^2)*(0.05 meters * 0.05 meters) = 0.025 Watts.
    The silicon solar cells give about 0.5 Volts so that is (0.025 Watts)/(0.5 Volts) = 0.05 Ampere. And they have varying efficiency. Learning to be precise, write things down, and give links to all your background information - that is a step towards doing good science and engineering. If we really do "solar system colonization" well, it is going to need whole generations of people with different skills, a strong sense of courage, and willingness to work very hard, often in dangerous situations.
    Monitor closely the room illumination and the solar cell properties. The energy of green light at 520 nanoMeters is 2.38 ElectronVolts. That is only a tiny part of the spectrum. You could use the actual spectrum, and the efficiency of the solar conversion process, and camera data to make measurements - after careful calibration.
    I just checked and moonlight is about 0.108 lux which is(0.108 lumen/meter^2) or about 600 microWatts/meter^2. The sun is about 2.3 Million times larger than moonlight.
    Another source says moonlight is about 0.25 to 1 lux.
    The Internet ( I have studied it intently every day for the last 25 years) is a mess. This sort of basic knowledge ought to be available to everyone, not have to spend days or weeks just qualifying sources and sorting through random stuff.

    I wonder if you could power this using a crystal radio tuned to a local station, and a voltage multiplier. Then it could also run in the dark

    Muy bueno amigo. Tambien ando liao con motores de pulsos. He hecho unas bobinas como las tuyas con canillas de maquina de coser. Han entrado sobre 300 y pico de espiras de 0.2 mm pero la resistencia es muy muy pequeña y consume mucho. Con otro tipo de bobinas si consigo reducir muchisimo el consumo.

    Johnpaul minguito, thx for replying. Laurent is a talented guy who helps us with his creativity and insight. His replication of lasersaber's motor accomplished nothing useful. Earlier videos already showed the design does no useful work.

    what is the application of this motor?

    • @igrewold

      I was thinking of a tiny ventilation fan.
      By making blades/fins say with paper, cardboard, ice cream(wooden) sticks, cuts from plastic bottle...etc.
      Then enclosing that into some case or box with holes for coming air and outgoing one...etc.

    With a core in each coil the thing will be so much more powerfull! and with approximately the same current or lower due to the higher induction thus impedance. Just some old screws will do. Now you have a very low efficiency.

    • @ludicscience
      @ludicscience  6 років тому +6

      No, you can not use an iron core because the iron will attract the magnets and the motor will not rotate.

  • @theuniversalbosstheunivers4624

    Y not to use metal bobbin

  • @trench01

    next time put the magnets ontop than on the side so that you can make the coils get closer to it since on the side you lose some due to the shape. ;)
    Have electromagnet abov and below the magnet migth help a bit more.
    Also if the center of the core was smaller wouldnt it be better to have more turns?

    • @igrewold
      @igrewold 6 років тому

      Use a tiny motor with something like a pen/pencil, fixate the core, and turn it on until it is done winding.
      Or anything that rotates like a drill or food/beverage mixer/blender...etc.
      Or get this and modify it, say with a metal hanger wire, to your liking:
