Good review. Just got my Aerodyne via Sweetwater a week ago and I'm loving it. It's replacing my P-bass as my go-to for gigs as its gonna be quite a bit easier to sling the lightweight Aerodyne on me for three one hours sets or one two hour set. I put DR Sunbeams 45-105 on mine and it sounds awesome, growly and versatile. Outstanding bass guitar.
That's all personal preference on any bass, I think. I like the stock pups in the Aerodyne. Others may not. I pulled the stock pup out of my Player Series P Bass & replaced it with a Quarter Pounder. Wanted more thump. It's all about what you want to hear out of it.
I switched them out with Aguilar P/J pickups. They are a pretty simple drop in. No routing needed. No jazz pickup hum at all! Sweet sounding hot pups and hum free.

Bought one two months ago and it's bad ass, there's just something about Japanese fenders
They are every bit as quality as a USA Fender
Great playing and awesome tone. Just ordered one myself
They really are pretty awesome.
I like mine a lot but I think I might want to change out the j p/u

I put in the Geezer Butler pickups and I have to say it is the best sounding and most comfortable bass I have ever played
