welcome to Malaysia. Fried Cempedak (cem- pronounce like in chim-panzee) , you should just eat the flesh, so it is supposed to be sweet, though some likes to eat the stones too, which is nutty. The mangosteen is the queen of fruits, what you had was a bad one (the colour yellow, on the fruit). There is a certain way of breaking open the fruit and you should just eat the white flesh. It is very sweet. Try again! Hehe. Enjoy your stay (I hope the weather will calm down a bit while you're here!)
The bitter part of mangosteen is actually the sap, you can recognize it by the dark yellow color that looks like a stain. The better mangosteen has very little sap and the flesh is white, sweet and citrusy. If you find a sappy mangosteen, it's better to avoid the stained flesh. The tiny parts of the mangosteen flesh are usually seedless, but the bigger ones have seed and you should not eat the seed. When buying mangosteens, I always pick the ones with less sap outside, the better ones have dark purple skin and the skin should be slightly soft (not too hard).
Hello dāv, I hope you are having a great Sunday, some of the food there looks kinda scary lol and eating in the rain sounds like fun as long as the food don't get drenched that's all that matters.
@@davkaufmaneatstheworld oh noooo i didn’t see you :( i wouldve said hi. My brother and i were talking about how you needed a million subs! Wish i met you!!!

Thanks for the info. Traveling to KL later this year. Interesting, because I worry when I see what looks like seafood, sushi etc out in that heat minus a fridge.
Night markets are best place for great street food in Malaysia. 1:55 We don’t tend to eat the seed together. 🤣 Some people would throw them away but some do eat them but usually separately. And, yes, it has that chestnut taste. 😋 3:27 You do know that not all Malaysian food is spicy hot, right? If you happens to venture to East Malaysia, both States’ INDIGENOUS people’s palates are different than in the peninsula. So, if you’re more interested in hot spicy food, consider skipping East Malaysia. 🤭 That’s coming from an East Malaysian here. 12:10 I think the bitter after taste comes from the seed(s). Your teeth might’ve scraped a bit of a seed. The transparent fruit and the yellow sap also contribute to the bitter after taste. I would avoid those if I ate one.
hahahaha yeah you can eat the hard cempedak pit dude, but usually we just eat the flesh, can imagine you just took a bite of the whole thing😂,maybe the guy selling it should tell you first
OMG...no one eats cempedak goreng like that...together with the seed...may I suggest that u ask first how to eat whatever it is that you plan to eat in Malaysia and anywhere in the world for that matter...especially cendol & rojak...be sure to mix welll
LOL...just eat the flesh of the deep fried chempedak. the pit usually not eaten. for the mangosteen, the the skin/husk is bitter. the is a method to open the skin properly. Also a good mangosteen flesh should be white or a little bit off-white. brown or mushy flesh is bad.
You shoudn't bite the mangosteen seed, that's why it taste bitter... rambutan, durian, cempedak and most of the fruit seeds aren't be eaten raw... just eat the flesh
@@davkaufmaneatstheworld a meal I bet only 0.1% of tourist/expat/explorer ever try upon their visit here, is "roti canai goreng" , even some local never heard of it 🤭 , it's roti canai shredded and fried like the way "mamak restaurant menu : Mee goreng mamak" , but the noodle is replaced by using "roti canai" . I'm enjoying this new channel. I started with u on reptile adventures.
Thank you I'm glad you're liking both channels!

Never been there but I watched awesome videos
One of the best in the world
Lightning photographers like to capture lightning from bukit tunku. Their captures are amazing.

Hello Bro, pls put aside cempedak seed when you eat it n it is wrong way when you eat it together.
You get the bad mangosteen. That's why it is bitter. Actually mangosteen is really sweet.

Loh mai kai is glutinous rice, pork or chicken (steamed)
Normally we don’t eat the seed of the chempedak ( although it can be eaten after softening it by boiling it). Just eat the flesh only
I won't eat it

Nothing wrong by eating the seed. Seed is edible and optional.
Better be looking for a wild king cobra out there;)

Why you eat cempedak seed?? Just eat flesh the yellow one.
It is Not peanut butter. Crushed peanuts with sugar, butter or margerine, corn.
