I think you would love The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. It was released in 2005 and it is wonderfully spooky, a woman traveling in Eastern Europe with her father, who is a professor, the looming presence of Dracula ever in the background, long train rides and journals and letters… just amazing. Solita is something I will check out. Philippines was a Spanish colony and so most Filipinos have Spanish names and the primary language, Tagalog, is almost a mix of Spanish. Similar words for car, pants, hacienda, last names are Rodriquez, Salazar, etc. I am Filipina (and Irish), so am excited to read Solita. Carmilla, I’ve never heard of it, so I will look into that. I absolutely love Dracula, so am looking forward to Carmilla. Definitely consider The Historian, I’ve read it twice and it was the perfect read when I was traveling on business a million years ago. I couldn’t stop reading it in the taxi to my hotel, and constantly looked over my shoulder. And another that works well is ‘Salem’s Lot by Stephen King. Very creepy.
The vibes are unmatched. I was wondering, how much time do you spend reading on a regular day? Do you spend a lot of time on social media, too, or does reading replace that time? I’ve started reading The Poppy War, per your recommendation. I really like it. Can’t help but think of you while I’m reading it!
i dont really plot/track my reading times. i usually dont force myself to when i dont want so i dont have very regular reading patterns but i have times that i usually read like on the train and before sleeping
bless ur soul I needed this, halloween starts for me the first of September lmao Also yes a dowry of blood is god tier I need to check out more of her work
i honestly don't read that much and i don't think i've ever read a vampire book, but i could literally listen to you talking about it for hours and not get tired. i really like your whole vibe and aesthetic, it brings me peace in a very nice way :) thanks for this video!
Your videos are honestly such a comfort place. They are so warm and welcoming but also so artistically brilliant- it's a relaxing artistic stimulation (?). I get inspired while also winding down. How do you do that? Amazing! Not only do you create an amazing atmosphere, you also really do showcase incredible artistry and that is truly admirable. You are incredibly talented x
Katharine - Great video on Vampire books to read! So glad you mentioned Interview With a Vampire! Love Anne Rice’s series on Lestat , Arman and Louis. I will definitely check Dowry Of Blood.
such an atmospheric vlog! also i was wondering: have you already watched the fist two episodes of the new "interview with the vampire" series? i haven't seen the movies or read the books but i'm absolutely loving this show!
I’m so glad I found your channel. I have it as background when reading on mute bc your aesthetic is the best cozy vibes then I watch again later. Also I’m will you read any more Anne rice? I read the whole series when I was in middle / highschool. I highly recommend at least reading to book 6.
This is the first time watching one of your vlogs and I gotta say. What an aesthetic. Watching this was so cozy and it felt like watching glimpses of the feeling that reminds me of home. Thank you so much for this.
I think the sapphic aspect it's more understandable when put at perspective of the context, in the time of publication put this suggestions of affection, desire and feelings between womens its very distinct (even tho it's clearly seduction with intentions of feeding, and is also not reciprocal) ✨ Loved the vibes and the long vlog 💙✨🫰 *I am not a native English speaker sorry for any possible mistakes*
Kat! There is a new series that was just released on AMC based on Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, I'm liking it so far, better than the films. Let me know what you think.
Currently I'm reading Covet. It's the third book of the Crave series and I have to admit I'm obsessed. 😍 The first book is actually a little bit cringey if you compare them to the following books but I can't remember anything racist being in there. But I read it a year ago and the german version, so maybe the racist parts got changed while being translated or I simply can't remember. 😅
I think Vampire Diaries and Carmilla are hard to find because VD is actually really old, from the 90s (even though it did get rereleased). I just don't think it's recent enough for a second hand shop to hold on to. And you're more likely to find Carmilla in an anthology, because it's so short! Vampire ones or classic horror ones. It often gets included though! Because obviously there's no copyright anymore. This is the first video of yours I'm watching (not finished yet) and I'm loving the realism. You still feel like a real person and not a character! I feel like I'm spending a day with a friend. Keep it up
Please Make more long vlogs ✨ 40 min video of unmatched Fall/autumnal immaculate vibes with books and ur face and ur beautiful Dog 🍁🍂🧡 Genuinely u are the only ytbr that I'm planing on watching this season and all the time 🏚️🎃🦇
Yes, I have the same feelings about Twilight! Currently I am listening to the audiobook, cause it's vibes xd, but it's so hard to explain to other people who don't get it lol
The happiness I get every time you post is unmatched!! Thank you for creating such beautiful videos ❤ Hope you enjoy the fall season and the coming winter~
felt the same way about empire of the vampire when i read the first few pages and had to just say no lol. also dowry of blood is so good!!! the vibes are always immaculate in your vlogs 🖤
I've never heard of Solita or Rainn before but after you said it's set in the Philippines, I'm intrigued! I haven't read any vampire stories lately since Twilight when I was in grade school lol but this was the first time I ever heard a non-Filipino booktuber mention a Filipino piece! We have Spanish words because of the centuries-long colonization of the Spanish since in the 1500s, hence the "hacienda". The author is Filipina! I'm intrigued enough to put in my tbr
I love watching your videos! I got so excited that you were doing a Vampire book video because I love Vampires and books! Sending lots of love and vampire vibes!! 🧛🏻♀️🩸By the way, where do you get your nails? They’re super cute in this video!! ♥️♥️
I Looooved "The Dowry Of Blood" I couldn't find it anywhere so I listened to the audio book and really loved it..👍 I also enjoyed "Twilight" it was a good read and I couldn't put it down.. 🧛
so that was what i was feeling about empire of the vampire, the masculine energy. lmao. i read it when it came out, powered through it but yeah, it was kinda hard to finish given how thicc the book was 😵 BUT, THE VIBES IN THIS VIDEO. VAMPIRE SUPREMACY. 😈
you have every right to not like certain characters in books but I couldn't help but feel your last comments on males being stupid to be very unnecessary- imagine a male saying the same thing about a female character...but love your videos! the fall ones are my fav!! 🍂🧡
i read Carmilla, honestly i really didn't like it 😆 im a goth queer woman, i was so excited about it. so that was a huge bummer. (huge ramble incoming about why i didn't like it, feel free to scroll on by if you'd rather not read that) after what people said, i was expecting to read about a young human woman being seduced by a hot vampire temptress, where the young woman is all like "omg what are these strange new feelings, its so wrong but so right 😍" instead, the character Carmilla came off more.. pervy. the main character was happy to make a new friend, and then Carmilla was being extra affectionate and making her uncomfy, which was uncomfy for me to read. the first time they technically meet was when the main character was a child, in her bedroom. there's a scene later on that people hyped up where they seem to get intimate. while the main character was sleeping and unaware. 🙃 i get how it would come off differently to other people, and its an old ass book, it doesnt make a difference, so i try to not disparage anyone who really enjoys it. it inspired a web series that i know was an awakening for lots of queer women, which is awesome. but the book read as pretty homophobic to me, and was overall very uncomfortable for me to read. the atmosphere and setting was fantastic tho, i will give it that.
Totally agree, the vampire diaries books are dated and not great lol. The way Katherine is written in the book in super cringey. It seems like the show writers used the characters' names and some of their personalities, then rewrote everything else. The show was a lot of fun. Thanks for the recommendations!
This will date me, but The Anita Blake series is very vamps, with very hot vamps, scary vamps, and after book 6 or 7, very spicy. Laurell K Hamilton is the writer.
To be fair, re: Twilight, a lot of folks (myself included) don't love the series because it's incredibly anti-Indigenous. So, it can be really hard to hear folks recommend it all of the time, or talk about how comforting the series is to them, knowing how harmful Meyers has been towards Indigenous peoples, especially the Quileute people, without some sort of acknowledgement of that harm. Sure, people just ragging on folks who like sparkly vampires is a bit much, but there *are* genuine criticisms of the series.
I'm a fan of horror, and I prefer Vampires to be scary and evil. I'm not really into Vampire stories where they are just Anne Rice clones, Blade clones, and complete jokes. I try to find a book series or a book where the Vampire is just an unholy Monster. And there are those written by very famous prominent writers, and some by not so famous. One book series I found is the Necroscope series by Brian Lumley. The Vampires in those books are the scariest Vampires ever to be written in literature. If you were to see one of those Vampires in real life. You would run for your life out of how terrifying they are.
I guess your vampire reading week is over. I'm halfway through your picks but haven't seen you mention this book yet, and you should definitely read it if you haven't yet!! Sunshine by Robin McKinley. Young female bakery owner gets kidnapped by evil vampires and ends up developing a relationship with a not-so-evil but still morally questionable vampire. It's much MUCH better than it sounds when I describe it. Here is a link to the Wikipedia description of the book. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunshine_(novel)
I'm reminded, again, that I have lost my copy of this book. I keep thinking I want to re-read it, not find it, intend to order it, then forget all over again. Vicious cycle.
the way u described twilight was so spot on like it sucks but in an intensely comforting way

there's a book called Carmilla and Laura by SD Simper that's apparently a sapphic romance retelling!
This is the first time watching one of your vlogs and I gotta say. What an aesthetic. Watching this was so cozy and it felt like watching glimpses of the feeling that reminds me of home. Thank you so much for this.
you’re my favorite UA-camr :) This Halloween season is YOUR season! Like Twilight, your videos are my comfort watch.
Get well soon! 🖤🍁🍄

I think an honourable mention for vamp books is the House of Night series, so trashy but so goood!
that was one i was gonna mention but i couldnt remember the name!!! i read it soooo long ago and i think only the first book or two
has she mentioned where her bag is from? it’s so cute 🫶🏼

Love your vlogs ❤️
AYYY NCT127 POP OFFFF
Omg! I just read on vampires too ; just finished Salem’s Lot by Stephen King🌧
I read Carmilla for the sapphic romance and vampires but it was very boring to me and i didnt really get romance vibes. 2 stars for me.
Loved the video 🖤
omg the new dowry of blood cover is .....
you're stunning.
i read Carmilla, honestly i really didn't like it 😆
im a goth queer woman, i was so excited about it. so that was a huge bummer.

after what people said, i was expecting to read about a young human woman being seduced by a hot vampire temptress, where the young woman is all like "omg what are these strange new feelings, its so wrong but so right 😍"
instead, the character Carmilla came off more.. pervy. the main character was happy to make a new friend, and then Carmilla was being extra affectionate and making her uncomfy, which was uncomfy for me to read.
the first time they technically meet was when the main character was a child, in her bedroom.
there's a scene later on that people hyped up where they seem to get intimate.
while the main character was sleeping and unaware. 🙃
i get how it would come off differently to other people, and its an old ass book, it doesnt make a difference, so i try to not disparage anyone who really enjoys it. it inspired a web series that i know was an awakening for lots of queer women, which is awesome.
but the book read as pretty homophobic to me, and was overall very uncomfortable for me to read.
the atmosphere and setting was fantastic tho, i will give it that.
I tried to listen to Crave on Hoopla but couldn't get into it🤷🏽♀️
Which app do you use for audiobooks?
omg a dowry of blood paperback is selling for $85 on amazon o.o the new cover is saur ugly thooo
85 horrid!! the new cover really does not match the beauty of the book itself 😔
Totally agree, the vampire diaries books are dated and not great lol. The way Katherine is written in the book in super cringey. It seems like the show writers used the characters' names and some of their personalities, then rewrote everything else. The show was a lot of fun.
