THE MIATA IS FIXED!!! V8Roadsters Cadillac Diff Conversion
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 січ 2020
- Well, I had no idea what I was in for the day I decided to build a big power Miata. Everyone's journey will be a little different, some more difficult than others! Great learning experience, but I'm happy I can move on to other parts of the car.

Greg: "I don't even have words to describe how happy I was"
Also Greg: "THIS IS THE SMOOTHEST 'bad word #11' MIATA EVER BUILT"
Spoken like a true sailor.
And is fair to assume that ride is now Smoother than Sandy Cheeks 🐬🍑🐬🏝🐬
1st gen V Owners:
"This diff sucks, I have to install a 2nd gen diff or swap in an 8.8."
TheCarPassionChannel:
"I'll take that glass diff off your hands for my Miata."
Never seen before, how is it pronounced, LIFET? Oh LIFT..
What a guy:)
I thought it was supposed to be a Lyft joke or something.
well if it isn't Mr drive-train vibration himself
He must be super popular with the ladies
😳🚘😏
So a miata motor with a bmw trans and a Cadillac diff.... nice
Frankenstein!
I plan on building a Miata with a Honda Motor, BMW trans, and the GM diff
@Street Fighter 99 10th ae k24a swap with ohlins suspension and custom knuckles.
Tvs 1900 SC kit, trans and diff swap ordered. I'll be posting some content on here with it when it's up and running again. ( Miata 6spd gearbox crapped out on me). Parts are supposedly 1 mo. Out
What a massive relief! I hope we'll see it on a racetrack in the future :)
Oh. We have not seen the last of the story of this excellent build.
Greg: ‘we’re back, baby! We’re back!
My brain automatically:... ‘back from the dead’ - base drops -
OG TCP Channel!
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So happy for you to have fixed the problem...GRRRRRRRRRRREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats Greg it definitely has been a long time coming.
So much for those that said the engine was too powerful.......
the bsod and subsequent reboot sound had me ROTFL ahahha
So happy for you man! I think I even cried a little when I heard your reaction to how it drives. Now slap the new tires on and then we need some new acceleration times
I didn't shed a tear but I loved his reaction when he first drove it. The guy is good. Anyone that disagrees is just not watching or listening. Great comment Trigga. Bass Player?
I cant even imagine the joy! Im happy for you and all of the subsequent vids to come!
But how da fuq you only at 98k????
No more stressed! Glad you got the issue fixed.
Thank you i ik everything I do about miatas becuase of you
So stoked its all fixed up now! Congrats!
Much happy that you finally fixed it
Awesome the vibration is gone. Congrats. What a relief.
FUCK YES DAD! FINALLY! I'm so goddamn proud of you, man! You deserve the fruits of your labor! :D
Congratulations brother. You worked hard. Enjoy the spoils of victory!!!
Very cool. Happy you stuck with it!
Glad you got it fixed, now it's time to see a vvti turbo miata kick some ass
bro, why so surprised? you relentlessly pursued the victory on this one. YOU WIN!💪
Congrats! Sometimes parts just have bad juju. Glad it is sorted, no better feeling than when it all comes together and just works!
Mehn am way in the island of Nevis 🏝 your blessed and inspiring ✊🏿
Props for keeping at it and getting beyond such a long term problem. No poxy 86 for this channel boiii
Glad you fix it and I know that feeling when you finally fix the main issues that keeps coming back. Finally fixing the issues is just hard to describe for any person who works on cars, only way to describe is saying OMG!!!!!!!
Wow! G man, that's the best to finally overcome the gremlins of DT vibration. I can safely say the Miata community has learnt much from your troubles, excellent vids, efforts and keeping at it till it's done... and done well. Cheers!
The lack of rust on your car is amazing
Nice one dude ,happy days.... A na without vibrations must be so good, its a science that you have conquered.. Peace out...
Fuck yeah man, stoked for you!
Now that you fixed it you should upload a video of you doing donuts for like 20 minutes. No voice over, no music, no editing. Just sick spins.
Thankyou for this video, I needed motivation to finish my swap! I've had all the stuff to do what you did for a 2 years or more now.
So happy it’s fixed
Awesome! Congratulations!
I'm really glad you go stuff right. I kind of stop watching bc I felt bad for you bro. It sucks having to see people experience problem after problem. But now I'll be watching more often.
Keep these videos coming. Your channel makes me want to get a Miata.
He did for me. Clean, manual, Red 1995. It's getting a turbo over April break (I'm still in high school) so that will be very very fun
Me as well, although I already have a 94 Integra GSR with 371,000 miles on it, and I didn't want another car that old, so I went for the 2000 NB1.
I have watched you do many jobs on your Miata. My favorite was the series on your skilled rebuild of the VVT engine. Aside from that, Greg, I had no doubt you would sort out whatever you chose and whatever was needed next. Thanks man. Loved your OMG OMG response as you drove it. Very cool reaction to a successful job.
Great video and I know your pain with the vibration cause thats the problem I'm having!!! My rotary swapped miata vibration is driving me crazzzzzy!!!
I happy for you .
Thanks for all your videos and keep up the goed work
SO happy for you Greg! I know the EXACT feeling you are having (re: ITS FIXED!!!) having had so many nasty issues myself. I /really/ need to get on top of saving for my own ZF/Getrag swap...
I'm glad you finally got it man. It's been a struggle. Now we can see some sicc Mexico runs😎
I still haven't driven a miata yet, I have a classic mini which is close enough but miata drive is definitely on the bucket list. That is awesome you got the vibration fixed, the relief must be enormous!
Super pleased for you. 😁
Really excited to get started on this
congrats for fixing the vibration! Literally as you dropped that I just finished a VLSD-Torsen swap to make my driveshaft rattle that I've had for 6 YEARS!
Happy for you!!!
Congrats! Thanks for sharing your hard work of the drivetrain R&D. You will have helped so many for sure. You are a Miata HERO sir!
Dude, my comments on your last videos when I spotted the diff setup saying about the garbage lower diff support solution the kmiata kit used was most likely your issue.
You now have a proper supported diff to match, the kmiata one was basically swinging in the air and only 'stopped' by a crappy bar on lower suspension mount points.
Happy for you, but I did fully expect this result.
Unfortunately I have 2 friends with their Torsen solid mounted to the subframe and are still having the same issue.
It's resonance! You've coupled the new diff several inches further forward with it's bracing, the resonant frequency is now way out of range of those you'll see in use. You have fixed it! Well done dude!!
Not only that, he's spinning it slower due to the shorter ratio!
Congrats man! So happy for you to have your car back and not shaking! Can’t tell you how happy I am for you just as a fan that your car is back to where you feel happy with it after all this time
glad you sorted the problem
so happy for you to see it finally fixed. it would be interesting to drop that old drivetrain to another miata to see if it would do the same, just for science
Interestingly enough, I have a good friend with the identical setup and the same problem. I don't believe there were any issues with each of my individual parts, but something between the drive shaft the Miata diff and how it was mounted just didn't play nice. Possibly a drive shaft length + material issue causing low critical speed and constructive interference with the harmonics of the diff or its mounting. Really my best guess at this point.
So happy for you and thank you for not giving up!!!
Considering I've been watching that problem along with you for such a long time, I nearly cried a little watching how happy you were that it was fixed! Haha. Time to grind that finale brother!
It's a Christmas miracle!
Congrats man! Finally time to enjoy it! We are waiting more interesting videos !!
Congrats on getting this sorted out and not giving up! I'm sure it feels great to have finally solved the issue.
Very pleased for you, Greg.
man we are so happy for you finally getting that issue off your head and move on with the build
Crazy to see the Miata getting welded and on a lift for the first time. A worthy problem to be fixed for the Miata though. So excited to see some of the footage you are going to make now.
Back to hurting mustang feelings again. Glad to see it back to good running order. Good job. Keep it up. You should get another Miata and do a full n/a build on it... just saying lol
Makes me happy that you finally found the right solution after all struggles you experienced and shared with us! :D
Now it would be very interesting to see a sum-up of making reliable BP turbo 400whp when doing it with right parts versus just an ordinary V8 swap completed with matching and reliable drivetrain upgrade.
What is the cost from jumping from 250 to 400whp really, street and track reliable? How much does this power jump affect maintenance cost and consumables mer mile? Cause if you build on budget you want also run it moderately cheap too.
You didn’t mention the chosen ratio of new diff while comparing it to miatas 3.9 and cost. New ratio mentioned in 9:33
Congrats my good man!!! $5k+ later for a proper drivetrain. Mad respect!
Absolutely stoked for you Greg. Hello from Scotland.
Congrats man
It's a great day for the car passion fam!!!! Congratulations on getting the car running well.
So glad to see it fixed! I can relate to a hard to track issue like this.
Let’s get this man to 100k!!!!
Let's see it rip!
So happy for you Greg!
Happy for you Dad.
ongratulations brother. Enjoy the victory!!!
so after all my theory wasn't wrong with the angles (and in relation the variation of the driveshaft length) to keep an eye on it. glad your problems are fixed now. love this build
Hell yeah Greg! And well deserved before hitting 100k! Carpassionchannel is gonna blow up in 2020 just watch
Massive massive massive congratulations on getting the vibration issue sorted dude!! Looking forward to more content!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! I know that kind of relief. It comes all too rarely in life.
Honestly I think it was the card you sent. There's really no other way I can explain this.
hell yea glad you finally got it fixed Greg
Dude I’m so glad you finally got it fixed! Congratulations and thank god you didn’t give up!
Congrats Greg!
I'm so happy to see this thing running smooth man! Thanks for sharing this with all of us
Nice dude, congrats! Glad you stuck with it and figured out your issue!
I had a Triumph Spitfire that before I got it the driveline had been taken out and put back together (spline) some other way than it came out, and was out of balance. I had to take it apart a couple times and test drive each time to get it like it was supposed to be.
Yes Greg, love it!
its about damn time
great job dude
Glad it's finally worked out. Just one question though. What's next?
I've told you in the video you change the gearbox, maybe the problem is in the diff... Glad you made it! Now Gooo power!!!
Congrats on finally fixing it
What a relief
I like the low revs at highway cruising speeds.
Pro-tip: bolt bracket to diff before putting it in the car, just did this swap last week but for some reason my axles were too long and I'm currently working with k-miata to figure out what went wrong. Awesome video as usual. Can't wait to get mine done so I can put some miles on it in the spring!
The bracket was actually a little tricky to get onto the studs, possibly not perfectly straight on my subframe. Since we had that difficulty we thought it might be easier to do it our way but yeah it seems easier to get the whole thing in. Honestly my axles seem a bit long too, but they work.
@@TheCarPassionChannel mine weren't even close, with the axle fully seated in the diff I went to bolt the top of the hub back up and it was off like an inch and a half to 2 inches with the axle fully compressed
@@MrMiati-ri5uc Oh wow. Yeah mine were a little tight but they fit.
@@MrMiati-ri5uc my original NB subframe was from a crashed car, but I had to change that out because it was bent.
@@TheCarPassionChannel could the issue be that I'm using an na subframe? They should be the same track width right?
Just did a door speaker and Kenwood Nav install on my 91' Next project is new brakes and rotors.
In regards to the vibration when you originally took the driveshaft out of the vehicle it looked like you had the slip joint down at the diff end (was always told to avoid this) due to suspension movement affecting them. Then when you re-installed it it was at the gearbox end. Maybe might have caused some issues? Either way great work and loving the content. 👍👍
I wish it would have been that easy; I tried multiple shafts with the slip at either end, and even a shaft that had no slip at all.
@@TheCarPassionChannel 😆😆 thought that would be way to easy. 👍
Happy for you man 👍🏼👍🏼
First time seeing this miata, and I can say there is many miata's in youtube but this one is for sure good looking
I think its awesome how you solved the issue.
super happy for you craig!!! you deserve it
I cant wait to be in your shoes of no vibrations come April lol.
When I spoke to Dave at Kmiata he said if we're running the miata diff. The driveshaft wall is 2.75" and when they upgraded it to 3" the vibrations were gone.
So It sounds like the shaft was too thin and would cause it to resonate.
But like you I'm going ZF-Getrag ❤
I think the problem was resonance related. I assume the driveshaft length changed when the trans was swapped resonance can be really strong when you really hit the right frequency, now with this new diff setup driveshaft length is again changed but this time it seems the resonance frequency is outside normal speeds, to ensure this is the case mabey take it to Mexico, just to be sure :)
mine got fixed today also! was having electrical issues!
Shit man. This issue gave you a lot of pretty good content to put up. Good shit! Happy for you!
