I understand what you mean when you talk about the gravitas of a brand. 9 months ago I have brought a Chanel bag (it all started for reselling purposes, but we'll see...) it's been my fist luxury purchase. I haven't had the chance to wear the bag yet, not only because of social restrictions but because I feel really bad thinking about going about with a bag that costs that much when a lot of people are struggling, yet on the other hand, just taking the bag and observing it... I feel like I'm winning something, it's the tangible proof that I worked hard and managed to do something I didn't dream of, whenever I spoke about high fashion (or even other things actually) it was always "one day I'll do this or that" but in my head there was that voice saying I really wasn't going to do it and mine was all talk just to feel a bit better, I was very aware of it and I accepted it, in a way I thought that wanting things made me a bad person and that I didn't deserve those things, now for me that bag means I CAN do things, I don't need to limit myself and "be small", I can do or be whatever I like. Sometimes it's not about the "look what I've worked for", it's more like "I can do it, I deserve it, it's okay to want things". I could sell the bag tomorrow and I wouldn't miss it one bit, but I still cherish the purchase itself as an achivement, because I could do it once and I can do it again.

I understand your feeling about it, but if you’re a person who contributes positively to society: philanthropy, volunteerism, mentorship, giving opportunities to people who need it, or the many other ways one can make a positive contribution to society, then you needn’t feel bad about owning (and wearing) something expensive. You’ve earned it. And the fact that you’re conscious of it tells me you’re the type of person who is generous and considerate of others.

I agree with you!! I’ve had an experience in the past where I also felt guilty of wearing my designer bag out with friends and family. At the time, my friends were in no position to afford any sort of luxury bags (we were 1st year uni students). We’d lust over designer handbags but towards the end of 1st year, when I finally saved and could afford one, I bought my first designer bag. a part of me wanted to brag like “omg. Yay! I actually bought it” and the other part of me was saying “isn’t this too pretentious? - how would your friends feel”. So I didn’t wear it out for the first 6 months of buying it because it just didn’t feel right. However overtime, I just stopped feeling guilty about it and like you stated, it’s the feeling of “yes, I did it on my own” that I was more proud of. In the end when my friends saw the bag they just loved it as much as I did but more importantly they were proud of me that I worked hard and saved for it. Sometimes we can overthink a bit too much haha! When I wore it to a party, no one even noticed, apart from my own friendship circle :)

The new Burberry logo makes everything look like it’s from Tory Burch. Classic example of your logo discussion. Great topic. Thanks.

    • @MarriedtoDoofus

The new Burberry Logo is indeed giving me Tory Burch vibes ... not that there is anything wrong with Tory Birch ... but I find it rather strange that after all these years Burberry embraced the logo craze ... personally I think their iconic check print was enough to differentiate it from the rest of the designer pack ... I don’t like the logo TBH.

Yes, and there’s a lot of old tat out there. Chanel bags worn to death and being sold for 3x more than the purchase price 😳
Although … I’ve seen vintage Chanel bag selling on Farfetch for £12k - yep £12k 💰 So, I thought there must be someone selling that exact bag for less. Some people don’t know their worth.
So I searched the Internet, found the same bag selling on an American preloved site in good condition. With the UK exchange rate I could get for £1,700 BUT they only ship within US (dang ‼️🤬).

There's something so elegant about YSL products, you can definitely tell that they're built to last!
I agree with what you said about pre-loved items. Oftentimes, a lightly worn pre-owned item from a decade or so ago is better quality than a brand new piece that's 3x the price! While I haven't bought any new luxury, I've bought plenty of second hand pieces and the quality has been fabulous! I will definitely check out Farfetch's vintage section, thanks Sophie! Love your videos 😊💕

My mini Antigona in black goatskin has always been my go-to bag and I'd like to think it's now one of the classics of Givenchy..none of their succeeding purses have made such following, even the soft antigona version. Even other brands haven't done that iconic trapezoidal doctor bag shape after..whereas other brands have like similar designs almost (celine box , Chloe C, hermes constance, etc.). Mine has gone with me on a Rollercoaster, got rained upon.. still surviving and the shape still there. Truly a value at that price point, it can also actually fit a lot inside (even the mini one) let's go antigona lovers 💕

Im a INFINITY YSL, FENDI type. Edgy chic with a pop of a LV combat flat boot( not the all over logo it's just on the tongue and back trim) but a chanel scarf with a leather jacket. I have prada and Gucci shades. Low key logo. I might get ysl bag but for now the WOC is ok and within my limited budget. Great video lovely !😊
Love the Burberry jacket and shoes too. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve been looking for a Chanel or YSL logo pin brooch for coats, sweaters etc for the last month but really just haven’t been able to bite the bullet and spend the money on such a little thing yet especially when in lock down. Soon though :) ideally the Chanel pin but $700+ for a tiny piece? Can’t justify it.
Edit: you are very right to think about what brands we associate with ourselves and thinking about what clothes actually fit us both character wise and body wise, rather than just buying things because they’re trendy at the moment. Focusing on one’s personal style that is most flattering. However I’m really not a car person so I’ve got that dior taste ... and also Toyota Camry taste lol.. (and Toyota wallet at best lol)

I literally have one of the bags from the Gucci Hysteria collection. It’s the Hysteria clutch in the crystal monogram. I absolutely love that bag, and every time the thought of selling it came about I quickly changed my mind. If you happen to come across any in great condition I would snag it up! Hope you’re doing well Sophie 🤗 Sending you lots of love from Hawaii 🌺

I actually bought a vintage Chanel Medallion Tote last year for aud$1200, which is around gbp700. I had a three week window between the first lockdown, when the preloved market did a temporary nose dive, and the outrageous Chanel price increases in May, when they doubled in price overnight, to grab it. And it’s in superb condition. The only signs of wear are the handles don’t stand up anymore, which is just what happens to these when they get old, and the serial sticker is coming loose, which I can get fixed. I had been stalking them for years and I am so thrilled to finally have one. Mind you, I haven’t worn it yet because I have been in lockdown for most of the past year, but hopefully one day I will be allowed to have a life again and I can wear it. So there are some really good deals on top brands out there if you are willing to look long and hard enough. I am. It’s a big part of the fun, the thrill of the chase.

Sophie you talk often about worries a preowned bag could smell. I've found the product Ozium works well and won't mark your leather. I would love to see more about how you keep your bags looking new and different warranties on brands. Love the videos!

Hi Sophie! I was rapt by this video because you just nailed so many points on the head! A lot of brands seem to be conforming drastically to suit a small market and simultaneously alienating their core. Idk but as an example I feel (no disrespect) Ricardo Tisci has taken Burberry to some strange, unappealing place with many pieces. That “TB” vs their equestrian logo... it’s like the heritage seems to be missing. Like trying to create a new LV, GG, FF, CC, etc. to compete with the current logomania? Ugh... maybe it’s just me! 🙃 Anyway, long-time subbie and although I rarely comment, I don’t miss a video. Thank you for being you! 😊

Hi Sophie I recently purchased the YSl Loulou in the medium and the Prada nylon bucket/cosmetic bag. I used the 10% discount code for Farfetch you provided so thanks for that! It's a shame the prada bag went up so much in price but I still only ended up paying £283. I bought a lovely saffiano leather strap and made into a crossbody bag as you suggested in one of your videos.

@@SoAnesu it's absolutely stunning and you can fit so much. I initially bought the large size which has the feet under the bag but that was just too big and heavy once filled so exchanged for the medium. I bought mine from Farfetch but was actually shipped from YSL Boutique, Bond Street, London. 😊

    Hi Sophie! 🙋🏻‍♀️
The YSL Cassandra looks quite similar to the Coach Tabby Top Handle 20 bag (the black one with the canvas patch) because of its size and shape
I don’t know if it’s (the tabby) the perfect all rounder bag as I want something that can be dressed up and down.... really want to start my collection with a bag that I can use all the time
Please do a video on your COACH collection!

Hello Sophie! This is your 65 yr old lady in NC. Just a quick question. I never hear you talk about Tory Burch. I saw that they have a boutique on Bond Street. I know they are not considered LUXURY. But at 65 I don't think I should start spending my money on a luxury handbag collection. But I would like to have a decent collection of bags. To date my highest price bag is a Sevreve. I have of 3 of them. I have also purchased 2 twillys/scarfs from Mulberry, 1 from Burberry, 2 from Cooper Holland and 2 from Dior. with which I use to dress up the less luxuriest brands (all credit to your advise). Do you think you will ever do a vidoe talking about the Tory Burch bags and comparing them to Coach (of which I have 3 of those as well). Also, what about the British brand Mulberry? All the best! Linda

Hey Sophie love your videos happy new year this video is so triggering because a cleaning lady that I had hired stole my Prada Duet Re-Nylon shoulder bag! same one that you have in this video same color and everything love the way you explained everything in the video good job 👏 I still haven’t replaced the bag yet can’t afford it right now it’s around 1,500$ but needless to say I guess she sold it on the streets or something i’ve checked all the consignment shops in our area and pawnshops and still have detectives but no luck! I had called the police on her and she was charged with theft and she supposed to pay restitution but I haven’t received anything from her and it’s been over a year! Anyway buddy keep making these iconic videos! Luv ya for 4 yrs now! U inspire me soo much!
