    I think that when you buy a Designer bag , scarf , jewelry etc should be for your enjoyment not for showing .The product should feed your soul and please your eye with the unique designe , creation and quality or lately in (my opinion and not all the Fashion houses ) this quality's have ben traded for mass production of poor quality and mediocre designs.

      You are so right and I’m guilty of it. Sometimes when I buy my bags I would think things like “Would people know what bags I’m using?” etc and I know it shouldn’t have been that way so when I have those thoughts I just pause and do my shopping another day when I’m in the right mindset. My everyday and top favourite bag is a Longchamp backpack, and eventhough people don’t recognize it I just love that backpack because the design matches my style, personality and usage so well. I just love using that bag and look forward to getting it out of the dust bag. I think that is how handbags (or any other purchase) should be, especially when you’re spending a lot of money to buy them.
      But at the same time, I do understand wanting to show your off your bags because you did spend a lot of money on it. I think, as long as you’re happy with what you’re doing and you are not hurting yourself or anyone (not in a physical way, but an emotional way) then it’s totally fine. I do know a couple of girls who feel a boost of confidence when people acknowledge their bags and it doesn’t matter for me cos they’re the ones spending money on it.

    I think LV is depending on their monogram being classic, and not an actual style of bag. That’s why although my LV bags are more that 10 years old, when I bring them out they are still relevant. The key is to buy a classic style (tote, top handle, camera bag, etc). If u go for the weird trendy shapes yes they will date

    I'm very new to designer handbags, I invested in my first two this year, which were both Gucci and LV. I think they are good entry points for someone wanting a slice of that pie. I think your point in a nutshell is that you don't buy them because it's more available to the masses, generally we want to buy items such as this to show we can afford something luxury - if everyone has it, it's no longer luxury or exclusive (my psychological brain working) The other side of that is that we like to be different to others in some respects and sometimes you need to pay a price tag to be different.

      Honestly, when I go into a high end store I expect to be treated nicely, at the least. I like it when I go to my salon and they offer me a drink and turn on a massage chair, the experience is part of what I'm paying for. Why would I pay loads of money for a snooty sales person to tell me I can't get the bag I want? Shopping is a happy thing for me, I don't want to feel looked down on or feel like I'm begging to be able to buy something. I think you have exactly the right word, it annoys me to no end.

    Most of these brands should focus on producing timeless, classic and good quality products. At the end of the day they‘re supposed to feel exclusive, but at this rate the customer gets overwhelmed. Yes, they want younger customers and most of these products cater to Hypebeasts, but come on where are the interesting designs? Look at Gucci and their ”Fake“ collection - come on it gets so try-hard to be trendy at this point and they totally lose their credibility as brands, cause the quality is lacking.

    • @groxsii
      @groxsii 4 роки тому +18

      I find that the leather high end pieces have amazing quality, and their customer service is unparalleled. They have countlessly helped me on old pieces. When I scratched my bag, totally my fault, they helped me for free. Dior? Asked for more than 300€ for simple cleaning. Chanel refused to help. I think LV has pieces for everyone, a bit lower- end and the higher-end too.

    • @jorgetrujillo9981
      @jorgetrujillo9981 4 роки тому +14

      LV has had factories in the United States for decades though this isn't a new thing. Most designer brands have been exposed for mass producing a high quantity of their items, and decreasing levels of quality across the board. I'd say Hermes is the only brand immune to this, as they pride themselves on everything being handmade.

    I was looking at the vavin in empriente leather and when I saw it in person, I was so disappointed. The chain was awful and it didn’t meet the expectations I have of an LV bag at that price point. Luxury isn’t supposed to be fast fashion and yet LV found a way to do it. Is $2k for a bag no longer a big deal to people?? That’s ALOT of money and it shouldn’t be treated as nothing.
    For $2.5k, you can get an entire kitchen at IKEA. Dishwasher, stove top, cabinets, oven, and a sink!!! Everyone spends their money on what they want but this should put into perspective how $2k for a bag should have much higher standards than what LV is giving us.

What I found now, is that I cannot use my old LV and Gucci because it's no longer the style. However, my Dior and Chanel even though now some of the hardware has been changed, can still get away using it today and still look beautiful. In fact, when Chanel bag became an "it" bag again esp. when some vloggers paid attention to "it", my daughter had asked for my Chanel but she didn't asked for my early LVs and Gucci because she told me it's an old style. She even asked for my Dior saddle bag which I had for a long time.... I think Dior and Chanel hold (not even the value) but it's style which I love..(you know what I mean?)

They're not saying anything against my character, and we all like different things. The world (and fashion) would be pretty dull if we didn't. So that's how I feel, but I hesitate to make a video saying bags I just don't like. I feel like we need more and more disclaimers. Anyway, ramble over. Thanks for sharing, Sophie! First of all - you’re lovely and I appreciate you being extra clear that your opinions are not some indictment or anyone’s else’s decisions or choices.
    Also, everything you said was so thoughtful and smart. I actually own 4 BVs from Daniel Lee’s tenure, but I bought 2 of them second hand (in new condition). The other two I bought before the prices made no sense. I agree - these days the bag prices are skyrocketing and make no sense. Like, the mini Jodie started at $1750, and now it’s $2650. That’s just crazy. I’ve had two of my bags jump up $400 retail over the same weekend in which they were purchased - not kidding. It’s a jungle out there!!
    I agree with you Re: LV. They depend a lot on their monogram and have honestly gotten so lost in the woods. Originally, LV a was a utilitarian leather good company (wallets, suitcases, even champagne carriers/Noe). Wish they could remember that, then perhaps the Willy Wonka’ing would stop. I also don’t care for their Nazi history, as they are one of the brands that benefitted the most during the Vichy regime in France. I don’t carry their bags for mainly this reason (Chanel was also a legit Nazi spy btw) + I find the monogramming tiresome.
    I’m in your camp via Hermes and the extra stress of dropping $7k just to fight for the bag on top of it. No thanks. Don’t need that.

My point is to establish a relationship with a SA is helpful, however NO house should make you feel uncomfortable when you’re dropping big bucks. It’s probably all about the training.

    I think a lot of the less-classic, high-end fashion houses have ended up embracing a very fast-fashion approach. Their designs are loud and their customers seem to enjoy the fact that these are waste-of-money, fleeting trend pieces--good for the odd photo on Instagram. I think in general these brands are catering to an increasingly large group of lifestyle and beauty influencers who are going out of their way to look trashily expensive. Gucci in particular reminds me of Jeffree Star and his whole vibe of just being insanely OTT and not giving a damn. That's all fine, but its definitely now a recognisable 'look', which is intended to communicate 'I'm too rich to care'. If people want to look like colourful brats with more money than taste, then so be it. That's not how I wanna roll.

    The second hand market is flooded with Kelly and Birkin, and I'm just talking about Vestiare Collective and Real Real. Who would want to own a bag that is listef on dozens of pages of any second hand website? The same is true for Lady Dior, unfortunately for me because I really like it, and have been considering getting it, but it's just so ... ubiquitous. Personally I go for designs that are far less popular on second hand markets and that you're not likely to see out on the street, my fave is Alexander McQueen. I do own Diorever because it's quite unpopular on a resale market🙃 amd because I loved it the moment I touched it😃 Gucci is fun, sure, but a bit too 'cheap' for my taste.

      Gucci is cheap, but you don't feel the same about McQueen???

      @@smiah7898 I just meant that Gucci looks 'cheap', it's fun, I own a couple of pieces, sure. The worst quality ever. The label on my hat and dress fell off in the first week, the watch, oh man, that was fun, the watch worked, but only if you didn't need to change time because the dial wouldn't turn😆 and they refused to do anything about it. I've got pants from Alexander McQueen that I bought 6 years ago or more, had them tailored 4 times already (ahhh, weight chages😀) and they still have all the labels, look impeccable and are a classic. Just my opinion. Gucci is fun, but not worth our money.

    Your LV description is spot on. I frequently think these LV are fake only to discover, wow, they did make that bag!

    I have several Bottega Veneta cross body bags my grandma bought in the 1980s. They are all classic woven leather and have held up beautifully. I think the classic styles are worth the cost, but not so sure with the more trend styles in this video (I'm sure they are great quality too, but the chunky hardware and exaggerated weave feels "of the moment" imo). So thankful my grandma had great taste!

    i know what you been by when you go into louis vuitton. its like if you haven't kept up with the trends you're kind of lost. but then when you find a bag its really nice and you love it so much! that was me with my palmsprings. louis vuitton has alot nice and cool styles but its so hard to pick from the many varieties, i totally get it!
