I’ve worked as a consultant systems architect as my secondary career for nearly three decades but have never dipped my toe into games programming before. I decided a few months ago to have a go at writing a game, just for the shear enjoyment. I quickly became overwhelmed by the magnitude of the field and the seemingly endless number of technologies and approaches. Finding your channel and tutorials has been a breath of fresh air because your presentation style and very grounded approach is making things not only much easier but significantly more fun; your enthusiasm for your craft is infectious! Thank you 😊👍
Hi! Welcome to my channel! Comments like yours are really what keeps me going. Thank you so much for your kind words! I will do my best to continue putting up tutorials. It is indeed overwhelming to see all the new technologies. I hope my perspective would make your journey a little bit easier 😃
I love your approach to development. Framework first! I'm glad you read the docs because I much prefer your explanations and summaries. Really nice work. Super helpful- thank you.
Thank you so much! Such an inspiration to hear your feedback. I'm excited to make more videos like this. They actually help me get better at gamedev too! I always find something interesting
Your videos have legitimately rekindled my love for making games. I sort of gave up awhile ago when the language I used to use became rather obsolete / useless lol
Your channel is getting better and better. In this case I would like to see a concrete example of using custom tilemap and scripting it in more detail.
Just a heads up - setting the tilemap to transparent isnt ideal as youre now incuring transparency overdraw for everything under that tilemap, even though you cant see it. Better to uncheck the box on Tilemap Renderer component. The tilemap component will stay active.
You can only create custom tile types. Every instance of that custom tile will have exactly the same data and values unfortunately. So if I made a tile that was a water barrel and I wanted to have a float value for how full it was, every barrel on the map would have the same value. :/
This is probably not a tilemap question because the whole point of using tilemaps for paint level is to do it in the Unity editor. If you were to create a layered scene in Unity you would just have to add colliders to the levels where you want collisions.
Can anyone points me as to how to get the (0,0) cell position on one of the corners? It always seems to be stuck at the center of the screen (or the map?)..
There is a tool called object brush in tilemap extras. I mentioned it in this video - ua-cam.com/video/_wDT_MIv3sM/v-deo.html It works the same in 2D. If you want to make collectibles you'd need to create a prefab and paint with it in the tilemap like I mentioned in that video
Все круто, а теперь расскажи, про 3D тайлы и кисть которая GameObject brush. Я так понял у них она ещё не доработана в Unity, приходится допиливать напильником..

I am so glad you like them!
I love how easy it is to learn unity from you! Thank you so much for all your tutorials!! This vid was exactly what I was looking for!
I am so happy that I could help you learn!

Your comment has made my day! Thank you for your kind words and I hope you can find more useful info in my videos.
Great video, please make more tile map videos. Like how to make a level editor or combine two tile maps at runtime.
Thank you! Okay, noted, I'll see what else is interesting about Unity tilemaps

Thank you! I'm planning on doing so.

Thank you for this. Helped a lot

how about if i create all 2D world in Photoshop ! how i can get collision of all ground and other layers i want !?

@@TamaraMakesGames thank you for your answer sister 🥰

Thanks for the video!
Is there a way to add collectibles on map like coins and draw them as tiles?

Thank you for your suggestions!
How do I use tile maps or something like it for 3D city builder or management games?
This tutorial will help you with it - ua-cam.com/video/rKp9fWvmIww/v-deo.html
@@TamaraMakesGames Thanks!
Any idea why the Tilemap Focus On window is not popping up for me after creating a Palette?
I don't know really :-(
I have the same problem. Did you find a solution?
@@omegalul8291 I have tried everything. No solution. Even reinstalled Unity a couple of times. Nothing :/
can u use the latest version of unity?
I used Unity 2021.2.2f1. I think this is the latest one at the moment
Thanks so much, (you are very cute btw)
I am glad you enjoyed the video :-)
Or just use Tiled and get rid of Unity's atrocious Tilemap
