Remember Max playing his white Fender Strat through a 135 Watt Fender Showman, Dual 15" JBL'S at the Sherrilee night club Customs Street West Auckland in 1964. Good times never forgotten. Rest in peace Mr Merritt.
Never get tired of this song, love this version and yeah....Come on. Makes me smile every time I hear him inject 'Come On' into a song as he does so often with his songs. Love the man, love the voice and wish he had of kept recording much longer than he did.
Agreed, great version! For the curious; drums - Mark Kennedy, lead gtr Dai Pritchard, trom - Ben Gurton, sax - Julian Gough, keys - Michael China Walker, vocs - Shauna Jenson, trpt - Paul Thorne, bass - Jamie Rigg (gotta be, he's the only one left..!)
I was standing at the counter of a little grocer shop on the Uxbridge Rd in 1974/75 with this hairy fella standing next to me. Took a few seconds to realise it was Stewie Speer. That's it, that's the story. :)
That was the night that Max called my girl on stage so I could propose to her. We're married now with 4 kids. Never forget that night in Cairns - never forget you Max. Thank you my friend. Miss you mate.
A great bloke & entertainer ! Never had a bad song ! Dirty work was my favourite 😍 😋
Max is an amazing Aussie Music Legend and he always put his heart & soul into every song and this one is awsome. R.I.P Max

Bass Harry Bruss. Jamie Rigg is a keyboard/Hammond player
Saw him in early 70's at the Hobart City hall and have since regarded him as just plain ol fashioned excellent.
