Been a hardcore metal player for 30 years. Recently started dipping my toes in the traditional/outlaw country/rockabilly world. (Back to my roots). It’s so much more difficult than metal. So I started searching for a channel to help me figure out styles, licks, scales, etc. your channel checked every box. I haven’t found a channel that is even close to as good as yours. Thank you!!!!!
Appreciate that man! Glad you found it, happy pickin 🤠
Thanks for filling this hole in the UA-cam market. A few years ago I was looking into “country guitar lesson” videos, and there was almost nothing except for ads for paid courses. Subbed!
Appreciate it 🙏 glad you found the channel!
my fingers have never hurt this bad
best country guitar lessons I've seen.
Dude. This is such a great lesson. The fact you not only demonstrate the licks, but changing keys, showing variations AND explaining your technique - all that makes these licks really understood and usable. Great job dude. I subscribed!
Fantastic country guitar lesson, it’s got everything; great licks, everyone’s favourite pedal steel guitar licks, awesome guitar solo and even a backing track! 👍🎸🇨🇦
Phantastic lesson, you are a great teacher, explaining everything very understandable! Just a little tip: For me personnaly, I would help if you would write the cords in the tab above the bars. I know I‘m supposed to be able to hear it by ear, or to just know where we are in the 1-4-5, but still for me it would help to look ahead what cord is coming up next when playing along.
Super lesson ,pas facile a 73 ans mais je m'accroche😅😅
Dude I really like your style of teaching. You don't leave out those critical details most others leave out that connect the dots. I've already had some big break through in just 2 videos
Love it, glad these are helping!
Brother,I’m wearing that double stop vid you put out w/those scales.
Very informative. I just joined up!
I spent so many years learning scales and ware and how to play cords on the neck . Nothing helped me understand how to play lead guitar. All those scales did nothing when it cam to actually understanding how to put it together. This guy is a true legend. I wanted to give up . After watching a few videos i felt like an idiot. People werr overthinking it. Watch these videos im still learning from the first one . Wish i could shake his hand . Im forever greatfull and thankful.
Thanks for the kind words! I’m glad you’ve found these videos useful!
Theres so many good videos on here I have difficulty processing but this is very focused and clear. The tab diagrams really help my adhd ass alongside such well formed instructions. Thank you!
You bet, glad to help!
Thank you Sir😊
Primarily a prog metal guitarist, but really dig your approach to teaching the intricacies of country guitar.
and thanks for posting the tabs as you describe the technique!!
You have a great way of explaining & demonstrating your lesson. Nice touch on guitar too. Would love to hear you perform live.
Thank you, if you ever make it to Spokane, WA I play around town quite a bit
Not a country guy, but this was a good intro. As it turns out I use a lot of those licks already in a rock/blues context, but nice to see them all connected, the concept of following the chord changes, which is different from rock/blues where we tend to stay in the blues or pentatonic of the root for soloing.
@timmcdowell:
Actually, most pro rock & blues players play over the chord changes.
It's possible to simply "play in the key," but it's not as interesting.
That's what an uninspired beginner could do, I suppose....
Great lesson -and thank you for explaining the hyrbird picking mixed with the chicken pipkin -so vital to explain that piece. 👍👍
Very good lesson for beginners like me, thank you so much! Love the sound! Kind regards from France!
Thank you, teacher. I like the country accent from Thailand.
Great explanation and demonstration of specific techniques, so says a player of 49 years. 😊
I just got my tele, Il sit down with your lesson soon. Well taught .Hard to Focus with such a handsome teacher tho.
Well thanks and congrats on the new tele!
Not a total beginner but I definitely learned something! Also, that tone is wonderful. Thanks.
Thank you!!
Nice lesson. I like it that you play it as a 1, 4,5 and the backing track helps a lot too Cheers👍
Yeah I always try emphasis being aware of the chord progression you are soloing over, the 1-4-5 is so common in so many styles!
WOW! THANK YOU! You are an incredibly talented guitar musician and teacher! Can’t thank you enough!
Thank you
Again super lesson thank you
🙏
Just absolutely what I've been searching for, video's to learn this style of playing. Alan Jackson style.
Awesome lesson!!
Thanks a lot
Thank you!
Thank you so much. You made this style accessible to me from the very start. I'm a Kind of Rockerbilly punk player, but want to evolve . This licks added to my playing immediately. Fantastic.
Took me a while to realize what you were doing at 19:20 but I finally realized it was a version of the first lick. Cool. I'm moving from a lead in a rock band to playing lead in a country band. Just like rock having its OWN lick, these country licks will definitely help me learn the country language. Also gives me an excuse to play my Tele in a band. Thanks,
Great Lesson Dude!😊👏
Excellent lesson .. I play plenty of pentatonic blues guitar and this is a great intro for any guitarist to country soloing
Really enjoy your lessons, thank you
Thank you, glad people are finding them valuable!
great work, enjoyable learn.
Just found your channel and subbed, thanks for a great vid!👍
Out standing lesson sir would like to see more of this spoon feeding lol like going over the scales and chord or triad positions with the chicken pickin if you need some ideas lol thank you !!😊
Right on, I’ll give that some consideration, thanks for the suggestions!
@@stevetharms I sure wish I could hit the like button more than once lol thanks again 😊
a clear thumbs up. This is a fantastic lesson. You are a great teacher. I would love to learn more of your approach to country music and particularly chicken pickin.
Thank you! I have a lot more content I’m working on so stay tuned
Great stuff...exactly what I've been looking for.
Thanks great lesson !
Nice one matey
great stuff Steve. Please keep the country going!!
Good job! Great licks! I hope you show more!
I love this channel and your clear thorough explanation!
Good lesson 👍
GOOD JOB, WELL DONE
Steve, an excellent tutorial. Thank you very much from the UK.
You're welcome!
Oh my God, I wish you taught guitar lessons for other genres as well. Thank you so much for simplifying all of this and backing up with very clear theory.
you bet! I got more coming!
great lesson, very practical and useful. Thank you!
Thank you 🎉❤
Great lesson. You make it simple and pretty useful. Thanks!
Great job man. Excellent teaching. Thanks for your time.
you are a great teacher... im 51 learning guitar.. thanks for these good lessons
You're very welcome!
Thanks, good licks!
BTW, you COULD call it "hybrid picking," which a lot of rock & Blues players use, it's certainly not unique to country & western.
I can hear a lot of rock guitarists that borrow some of these licks, esp the double muted dead notes in the bass string (lick 4 i think).
Sounds great!
Excellent lesson Steve! Appreciate the practice backing track too. Makes a huge difference.
I just discovered your channel and I love it! Can't get enough of it!
Thank you, appreciate the comment!
Well done, thanks Steve
You bet! 🙏
Muy bueno.!!!!!!!
Thank you!
You explain these very well. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent playing and teaching, thank you!! Of course, you have a new subscriber, and if you ever have a paid course, I'll be glad to attend. All the best from Europe.
Love it! Thanks. So we’ll done.
Thank you!
Extremely well taught Steve. Just took a quick look for some country sounds/riffs and this is so well put together. Thank You.
Appreciate that!
Good teaching!
Thank you!
Please do more of these vids ... this is what I have been looking for with respect to bends and chickin' pickin' - would like to see another on your picking technique and dead notes (maybe you have this, new to the channel). I have tried using a thumb pick and kind of have it, kind of not. I can pick fast otherwise, but still these licks require some practice --- appreciate it!!
Very nice!!! If this is basic, then I'm really bad lol....honestly great lesson. I have so much to learn!!!!
I included quite a bit in this lesson so if some of it’s over your head no worries! Just focus on the basic licks for now 🤘
Dude. Thank you so much for this! I'm a rock/blues player by training and i've been playing in a country band for the last 6 months trying to make my licks work. Sometimes it sounds cool, but this is what I've been looking for to really understand the style. I'm stoked to incorporate this into our set!
Hell yeah, happy pickin and grinnin
Good Stuff!
Thanks!
I am in the process of learning to play Take it easy by the Eagles, and you really helped me to better understand some of their technics, thank you very much
great song! they've definitely been a huge influence of mine over the years
These lessons are great and you're doing a great job with pacing and sprinkling in extra challenges for those coming from other styles. Greatly appreciated! Would be nice to play in the last genre that pays well😂
I especially like you building a solo on the ideas, tabbing it out, and then offering the backing track at the end. Super well thought out. Keep goin! This definitely a market for this on youtube.
thanks for the comment, I'm glad people are finding this stuff useful!
love it
Thank you!
More pedal licks ! wowzer
Awesome lesson. Greetings from Australia
Thank you!
im a slow learner and this help me
You are a natural at this. Thank you so much. Is there anywhere to download tabs?
I am just now starting to get into playing country music. Your videos are great. You do good work. Hope to see more country guitar lessons from you. I gotta get back to practicing my chickin pickin. Its a stuggle for me. Cant achieve the sound without it.
Keep on the practice it’s worth it!
Brilliant lessons Steve. What gauges do you use on Your top three strings?
I just found you! You sound great (what I aspire to be able to do) and you teach very well. I do have a question though. I have a Squier CV 50s. I know it’s a personal choice but what strings should I start with?
I would start with 9.5's good mix of strings that are easy to bend but still stiff enough to give a little resistance! You could also try 10's or 9's, I wouldn't try going heavier than that though otherwise the bends can get a little difficult. Happy Picking!
The first bend is crucial. Hard to do at the second fret.
Thanks for suggesting that I look at this lesson do you have one on the cage system and triads that you mentioned as i don't know anything about it
Yes, love the sound of the Tele! However, are you usig pedals? If so, what are you using? What about the Amp? Which Amp?
I have a whole video on my channel about how to get the sound I’m using!
Great lesson, more on chick picking RH would be amazing
I’ll keep that in mind!
Same thought my fingers were past the pain part lol
Lol it never stops hurting
😎What gauge strings ?
Your Awesome Bro I Learned this By watching You Best Lesson Ever! Please check out Sammy Cervantes Country Something
thank you!
Modern country music sucks.
If you don't name the riffs, I don't watch and downvote the video.
