I don’t know what the medical condition was in this specific situation, but for a heart attack or an aortic dissection the blood flow reduction or interruption can (not necessarily always) cause a loss of sensation and control of the lower limbs; can’t control the gas & brake pedals. Further blood pressure loss can impair the arms and hands; eventually can’t steer. Even more severely, if the ascending aorta is compromised, the carotid arteries at the aortic arch can’t send enough oxygenated blood to the brain; the driver passes out. EDIT: It can happen anytime, to anyone, even if someone appears healthy. It’s often hidden or undiagnosed until a big one hits. Actor John Ritter suffered aortic dissection and died 2003. JP MorganChase bank CEO Jamie Dimon also suffered it but survived.
How can you drive that far in shock? Seems like if you can steer, you can stop.
