    _______________________________
    In this clip, R.A. the Rugged Man talks about the quality of music and performance quality. The conversation builds off of DJ Vlad querying R.A. on social media sensation Lil Pump. R.A. admitted that he's not familiar with Lil Pump or his music and that in order to offer a fair assessment of him as an artist would have to delve deeper. Particularly when it comes to performing. R.A. said he'd have to see Pump on stage for at least an hour before casting judgment. He also believes that rocking the stage is a connection and energy the performer has with the audience stating that someone could have a terrible song but rock the live performance.
    R.A. also breaks down the psychology behind sampling or remixing familiar tracks. To R.A. the familiarity of a record lends itself to being listened to more if there is a sample most people know. He pointed to MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This" for its use of Rick James hit "Superfreak" and how he used a similar tactic when freestyling over Taylor Swift's track. The familiarity mainstream America had with Swift's original made people listen to R.A.'s version.

      That doesn't make sense but thank you for your reply.
      There is no way a 44yr old could relate to a Lil Pump record without being mentally challenged at that age.
      If Vlad kids or grandchildren enjoyed the record which created a fun moment between them then I completely understand but if a fully grown man listened to a record by Lil Pump and thought 'hmmm i like this' then they are severely lost.

      dd so if a persons fun is running around molesting lil kids then your saying we should let them have fun... Stupid people logic makes no sense... Vlad is a grown ass man talking about listening to lil Pump, think about that? What club is playing lil pump, it sho ain't one where people 30- 40 years old hang at.
      Same with DJ AK he 29 hanging with 16-19 year old niggaz where they do that at.. Nigga almost 30.

Then saying u shouldn't judge someone, you then turned around and judged me because I give u an Analogy that's harsh enough everyone judges it wrong and immoral. Like it or not hip hop has become African-American culture and if all we do is dumb it down and pump negative stereotypes into it then we as a people like it or not will be looked at negatively. I said nothing about liking dumb songs, I said where would someone in their 40's be listening to lil Pump at, it sure ass hell wouldn't be around other 40 year old...

    Beat selection is never more important than lyrics or content.

    • @mistahmst
      @mistahmst 4 роки тому +1

      Yes it is. Hip-Hop is music, so you absolutely need to make sure you deliver musically. Not to say that lyrics aren’t important, but if the music doesn’t sound good, no one cares what you have to say.

    • @RicoBeasty90
      @RicoBeasty90 4 роки тому +1

      mistahmst disagree. I would much rather listen to something like “Campaign Speech” by Eminem that’s literally just bars with little to no beat as opposed to some mumble rapper on the radio that has a fun beat but complete trash lyrics and only rapping about drugs/money/girls

    • @mistahmst
      @mistahmst 4 роки тому

      RicoBeasty90 Eminem has countless songs about drugs and women, but that’s besides the point. If I just wanted to hear words with no music, I would listen to spoken word. I don’t understand why people think you have to choose between great production and great lyrics when there are plenty of songs that have both. The best artists know to pick the right beats and perform well on them, then we start diving into the lyrics. I would rather listen to a fun song that is well produced even if the lyrics are kinda lacking as long as the artist can deliver their bars in a way that compliments the beat than a “deep” song that is poorly produced and poorly performed. If you were truly a great rapper, the latter just wouldn’t be an option.

    • @christosmilaqi7587
      @christosmilaqi7587 4 роки тому

      Depends on direction or purpose of what you're doing...
      If you go for the "vibe" thing Vlad's talking about, OF COURSE the music is first cause you have to "beautify" a bit the shit that comes out of that kind of "rapper's" mouth...
      If go for the really technical part of rap (with lyricism, skills, storytelling and all these concepts), sometimes the "music" part is left behind a bit (for example see some beat selections in Nas's carrier...one of the greatest lyricists of all time...if not the best...picked beats that were OK for him...)
      So,
      If you are on the first category I'm talking about JUST FUCK YOU!
      If you are on the second category you deserve respect...
      And if you're trying to find the balance or harmony between lyricism and beats the RESPECT you deserve is much HIGHER...
      Cause that's a mindfucking thing to try...
      MUSIC IN GENERAL IS NOT ONLY A VIBE THING! THAT'S GOT TO BE ONE OF THE DUMBEST THINGS I'VE EVER READ ON HIP HOP!
      COME ON!
      I can break you down ALL the elements and concepts of a hip hop record just to explain you why THESE RAPPERS deserve respect, but I'll overcome the UA-cam counter for most words if I start typing, for sure...

    Pump is a genius purely because he has blatantly admitted he can't read and is basically a hop skip and jump away from being mentally handicapped, and yet he had his 15 minutes, and it's arguable he had two of them lmao. His music may be the closest thing to being able to objectively call an art piece bad, but if you hate him for being some sort of successful, that's a reflection not on him, but you and everyone else.

    No one cares about selling out anymore. Back in the 80s-90s, if a rapper sold out, he was ridiculed. Now, if he sells out, he's celebrated. In fact, selling out is no longer a concept. This is why people don't care about lyrical substance. Imagine if KRS would've made it big today as a young artist. People would've respected him for doing something with Taylor Swift.

    I understood his opinion on this cuts once of the first things that drew me to Weeknd song "Die For You" , besides it being a great song, was that the chorus have a quick interpolation of "Feelin On Your Booty" by R. Kelly

    the sample provided the musical quality though. But taking a sample looking for specific instruments and constructing a completely new melody is as constructing an original sample. Because people are simply sampling the instruments, not the melody.

    Seems like Vlad does not understand the difference between lyrics in rock/metal and mumble rap.
    Metal vocalists SING. Which takes insane skill.
    EVERYONE can mumble.
    for example Gojira are not wordsmiths, they still have a message, but lyrics are not sung clearly.
    But fucking hell there are not that many people who can sing like Joe Duplantier. It takes SKILL.
