The User manual says to jack up bike to take weight off rear wheel before doing the adjustment, but i notice you didn't do that. Do you think it makes a difference?
I just tried this yesterday on my Vaquero. I put 30 lbs in both. You always lose a little squirt of air,so I put the pump with gauge back on, and it was at zero on both. I'm going to buy a jack because there must be a reason the manual says back wheel off the ground 🤔

I did it both ways, with the rear wheel off the ground and then on the ground. I did not see a difference in the air pressure.
Correct, as long as there is no weight on the bike,,
