Hi Dan, I think you’d look great on it with the pink seat 😂, I’m sure you’ll work your magic on it and get her back on the road, great video as always matey
Ha ha ha,, I would look a pretty sight right enough, Yes I think the wifde will be changing the seat cover again, unless i get a scrapper for spared with a good seat.
Great start Dan, wish I had cleaned my VFR before I started stripping her. As the bike is sort of running can you do a compression test just to check how the cylinders are looking. Also when you get the clutch cover off and once you have checked the clutch basket for wear. Maybe take a look at the clutch cush drive ( if they are rubber then they could well be knackered) if they are springs then check they are still with service levels. Good luck, looking forward to your next part.
Thanks mate. I will check all these things out. Would be good if it is an easy fix. Few years back my wife had a GPX250, same engine and making similar noise, however I was asked it was normal.. anyhoo will see how it goes.. cheers
Nice project Dan, hopefully the knocking isn’t too serious and an easy fix. Fingers crossed you get the other bike from the auctions as t would make a great donor
Yes I hope I can get it, I might have a look on pussbook market place for a tank, or eBay.. I really should invest in one of these plastic temp tanks you can have up, at least for tuning etc. with the seat off,,
Hey Dan! Literally am upto the same stage you are with a “97” ZZR haha I was searching for some tips! Awesome to see this video- I’ll 100% keep up with it with ya haha So new sub from me 😊 Also I had a similar issue with the knocking sound on mine but after adjusting the idle adjustment screw and opening up the choke on the handle she was good to go! Hopefully it’s just something small like that! 😅 all the best mate!
Hi Mate, I'm on the next video, not finished yet. I took the clutch out and the basket bushings are goosed, I took the sprocket off the basket and ground the top of the 6 rivets, this opened the basket and I found the damper bushings were toasted. Getting new bushings is impossible, tried everywhere, no luck. So I have ordered a liquid polyurethane that you mix and make new bushes, so I will pour that into the bushing seats and let it set, this will replace the rubber, be stronger, last a lifetime and no knocking from the basket. I should get the mix on Wednesday so hope to have the video out by Friday. Oh, and putting it back together, because the rivets and plate are steel I should be able to pop a weld back on the heads of the rivets to hold together. Hope this is of some help..
Hi Dan - not a bike person at all, but sounds like clutch area with it doing it at idle, and because it disappears when clutch engaged. As it has a few years under its belt, possibly drive damper in the clutch basket?
I think you are spot on, I'm not much Shure what the clutch assembly is like on this, but there is one way to find out I guess, I'm going to check where oil is leaking and repair that when I change the oil, will do the clutch at the same time.

@ yes agree, a man of your talents could easily rig up a temporary tank set up!
