- In this tutorial you will learn How to transfer files between Ipad / Iphone and A computer / Laptop running Windows 10 Operating System without using any software like iTunes etc.
Both Windows 10 and Ipad / Iphone with ipad os 13 have a feature called as SMB ( Server Message Block ) which supports file transfer in the same network.
This is an excellent tutorial, nobody has explained it so well as this gentleman. Just a note; Select the option for "Add user without a Microsoft account" when setting up your user name.

Every year or so, I make another attempt to set up file transfer between my iOS devices and my Windows 10 laptop. No matter how many different explanations or UA-cam videos I follow, no one explains it clearly enough for me to succeed. And I am a retired computer consultant!
But, FINALLY, I succeeded, thanks to this clear, no BS tutorial that explained ALL the steps required.

Unfortunately this quit working as of April 27, 2022.
Just bought a new iPhone 13 Pro Max and nothing connects anymore. Tried sorts of different routes but still unable to connect.
I even tried similar tutorial videos out there but still not connecting.
may be issue with windows.
i have seen this error before.
one possible solution is to turn off windows defender.
try this.
turn on wifi and disconnect it from internet. ( it will be a local network )
in windows search for windows defender and turn off / disable it for private network
connect pc and iphone to that network
try all the steps
after success or failure turn on windows defender
connect wifi to internet

Before bedtime, I always like to sit in the bed, do 30 min ipad work, but with pity can NOT access whole PC to do other type of work. I often have to use AUTOCAD, ARCHICAD software, but there are no ipad apps for these software.

Hey amigo, what if we have a Pc on Ethernet cable ? Also, when I connect to the server on my iPad and input name and password, it says « you entered an invalid username or password for the server » but I did not

Help! this did not work for me. i followed all steps . paused the video on each step and still did not work. I am using a windows 10 + iphone se (2019). Is this an outdated video or does it still work the same ? the error happens at the last step within the phone trying to connect to the server..

On Windows 11，I close the Firewall for private network on the Windows Security Center to make this work.

I've followed this twice now and still having an 'invalid username or password' message from the ipad
I can get it to work (thanks ). But for what I do in my shop I need to have the connection all the time . The next day it will not connect as my lease on ip address has grabbed another from the pool , so I have to update it daily Is there a better work around …or would I have to reserve a ip from dhcp. Or set a static ip for the computer and use that. Thanks

if you have budget then go with the one with higher memory.
using these methods needs settings up things, sometimes data transfer speed is slow and some other issues.

Thanks for sharing.....I followed your tutorial very smoothly until I came to connect to server. I did put in my IPv4 address, also name and p/w - connect to server. Unfortunately the server response was "The file couldn't be opened because the specified URL type isn't supported." My file transfer is between my Ipad Pro to my Windows 10 desktop computer. Any help will be appreciated.

Make sure that your WiFi is not connected to Internet ( it will be a local network ) and try if you want to

this will work whether you are connected to the internet or not.
i have wifi hotspot which works with sim card ( to connect to internet )
if i remove sim card then there is no connection to internet. it will be local wifi network.

Some people have connection issue
One solution is to disable windows defender
If you disable windows defender then make sure that you are not connecting to the internet
After transferring files turn windows defender on and connect to internet

after copying the movie don't do anything till it finishes.
You're leaving something out here guy....some people including myself, aren't getting the same options when we open the "Files" app on the ipad. There must be a reason some get it and some don't.

Thank you, You helped me a lot. If it doesn't work, you need to enable one other thing, that does't show in this video. So go to "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings" on Private -> File and printer sharing tab enable "Turn on file and printer sharing" option, also network discovery should be enabled as well if it wasn't. By changing these setting helped me to connect. I am using windows 11. Hope it will help someone, who is encountering this issue as I did.

Does this only work with Windows 10? I still have Win 7
i don't think windows 7 supports smb feature which is required for this method of file transfer
Does support win 7 had it working for a short time and then problems connecting to server had a more problematic time connecting to win 10 apple gathering more revenue from consumers with icloud thats why they make it so difficult to transfer photos to pc dont have to be a brain scientist to work that one out

shared folder will not take your ipad storage
you can remove the smb server conection in your ipad if you dont need it

Thank you. This is great. It works for my iphone but for some reason I don’t have the three dots in the files app on my iPad to enable me to connect to server. Any idea why that would be? I also don’t have “my iPad” in the Locations tab on my iPad. Only iCloud and recently deleted. If you could help me with that I would really appreciate it!
