My son is 13 months old. Before he was born, I bought him a camouflage Spartan. On one of his birthdays, he will be gifted a SAK that is literally as old as he is. He will learn both knife safety, and probably first aid, on that day. :D
I like the hook and lately been using the corkscrew, but I carry a rucruit. So, that's at home. I sometimes use the can opener as a hook, but I just got the recruit and never end up using it. I like it's size.
Excellent video review and thanks for sharing it. I love my Victorinox Recruit and I have it with me right now. It still looks and works like brand new and I've had it for 5 and a half years now.
Yes, the small screwdriver tool works great for Phillips, been using it for that for years. The Tinker has the actual Phillips screwdriver but it is polished so good that it usually slips in the screw notches. I used a small file to get the polish off of the tip so that it would grip the notches in the screw. Great knives, great review, thanks.
The plain backsprings are nice if you wittle and sometimes press your thumb against the back of the knife. And if you compare it to a two-baded pen knife or other traditional slipjoints, it's really a very good and useful little knife.
Put the Recruit bottle opener head-to-hear against the Wenger bottle opener and you'll find the Wenger bottle opener works a lot better. Always catches the cap and doesn't slip off. And the SAKs made in the Wenger factory are about the same size -- 85mm.
Thanks for yet another great review!👍Without the back tools do you feel, that the back springs are snapper, like in the alox models, or are they on par with other cellidor models?
The mat is actually just an 12 x 18 clear mat with a 12 x 18 texas flag underneath. I searched high and low for a Texas themed mat and came up empty handed. Good choice on the Pioneer X, one of my favorite SAKs.
I had that same problem 35 years ago when i was a kid... Now i have have every model in the line, with a butt load of backups to my favorite ones.... 😅
First ever SAK i owned, still have it and carry it, almost 25 years later.... cut myself one of the first days I owned it and still have the scars to show for it.
Hello ban I've been subd to your channel for quite a few years now i hope you didn't get any bad comments coming from my account because I've been hacked and my details also I've been getting very upsetting emails linked to a channel called(weapon collector) its a channel i in the UK there doxing people going about saying fake thing's about people that's not true just wanted to let you know and sorry if you have had bad comments coming from my account thanks ban
In some respects you’re right, they don’t have the blade quality of higher end knives. They do however offer functionality that a regular blade is not going to give you. I think that, more than anything, is why people are drawn to them.
84mm > Goldilocks . Recruit is my actual edc . No keyring (grind off ) , no can opner (grind off ) to reveal a small flat with very good clearance and a excellent 2d Phillips . Just as a bonus it still works as a can opener. Video to prove . I sometimes swap it for the 84mm Tourist if I'm falling adventurous? Angler on high days and holidays, Swiss Champ , I'm just not man enough it lives in the drawer along with the Swisstool .

That’s a great gift, with a great story. I’m sure he will cherish it, or at least the memory for many years to come.
I remember learning to use a pocket knife in the cub scouts. I also learned first aid in that day

recruit is my favorite swiss army model. i carry this one everyday. it has all the essentials i need. i do use the tooth pick and pen blade often.
The recruit was the first Swiss Army knife I got. Love the recruit. Thanks for all your great videos.
You’re very welcome, thank you for taking the time to watch.

My first SAK. Got it for a school camping trip. also lost it on said trip lol.
Lol, that made me laugh.
Get another one, can't go wrong with a Victorinox
@@rickyporter6450 Already have a bunch of stuff. Currently carrying a swisscard as edc. Am thinking of buying an explorer.
@@shaharyarsheikh5291 the Swiss cards are great which version do you have?

Just bought this for my grandson
An excellent choice for a young man.
For me?
It's a nice one for a first boy's knife.
I agree.
Always looked at a recruit just haven't ever got on. I do have the sportsman and enjoy it quite a bit. Great review 👍
The Sportsman is one I need to get.

I will, great suggestion.

I feel if they made the compact in 84mm it would be a modern version of the 84mm golfer i inherited from my grandfather
I had to look that one up, nice knife.
or three layer knife with scissors
I like that mat, where can I get one? I just got my first Victorinox a couple of weeks ago, the Pioneer X, I love it.

Still can’t decide on what model to buy but very informative video
Recruit is an okay choice, the Tinker is a little more handy. Can't go wrong with either one. Victorinox knives are of excellent quality.

Swiss Army knives always seem like a beginner cheap knife. I think the blade on them is cheap. A good starter knife for a kids first knife

How unnecessary model, Bantam or Sportsman are much more better
I don't know about that, it's a pretty good beginner's knife.
