hunter is literally the worst friend. had an affair with her husband, let her drink herself through all her grief following her husband's death, asked her to climb knowing this girl wasn't near close to over it, didn't plan any of it out to make sure it was safe or ease her into it again, then constantly pressured her and joked about shaking the ladder to scare her

Kind of like that one friend in "The Descent" when that one friend talked the other girl who was in that car crash and lost her husband/daughter. Year later - Hey, lets go cave exploring and not tell anyone which cave we are going to or some dumb nonsense. At least there were NO cave people chasing these girls around and trying to kill/eat them.

As a radio tower worker, those connection points that hold the ladders in place are rated for incredible amounts of weight and are supposed to connect every ladder assembly to a secure point. They could have connected the carabiner to each one, descended a short distance each time, and eventually make it to the platform below. They pass two of them every time they go up and down and it just makes me mad that it was completely ignored.

Hunter was the true mega-villain in this movie. She forces Becky, who is still traumatized over the loss of her husband, to climb this 2,000 ft. tall, decaying, abandoned radio tower, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FUCKING DESERT NO LESS, without any sort of preparation beforehand. Then she shakes the ladder to scare Becky, and then, BIG SURPRISE! The ladder falls away into the distance. Realizing that she had just fucked everything up, Hunter admits to HAVING AN AFFAIR with Becky's husband before he died, and she gets what is coming to her.
Moral of the story: never have a friend like Hunter.

The only time she was reasonable and a good friend was when she was dead.
And that was a warped perception of her made by a grieving becky who was hallucinating after the trauma of watching her friend get eaten, so all of her actions were pretty much how she viewed her friend - when in actuality - she sucked. Entire movie until she was dead, she sucked.
I think the most heartbreaking and horrible part of the movie was when it was revealed that she had a tattoo to commemorate her friends husband and what 'could have been'.
So even if her husband had survived, and none of the movie ever happened she probably would have stolen becky's husband from her at some stage.
What made it worse is that hunter caused becky to lose touch with her dad, the only person in the world who cared about her because she was just so selfish.
      ughh i hated her.

Hunter didn’t deserve to die because she didn’t do anything wrong that would deserve a death sentence. Also got teaches us that killing is wrong, even if someone kills, you shouldn’t kill. That’s why I’m not a big fan of the death penalty. I’ll admit, Hunter was one of the worst “friends” anyone can ever have. But still doesn’t deserve death.
Edit: I have realized the mistake I made lol, what I was tryna say was Hunter was a b*tch but I wouldn’t say death was good cuz Hunter’s death traumatized Becky even more. I honestly really like Hunter as a character. Not like I think that she's a good person or anything- I think she's well-written. She's been a bad friend through and through to Becky: having an affair with her significant other, abandoning her in her time of need, etc. and she seems to understand that, but now that she understands that she wants to make a misguided attempt to help her through this tower climb. Like, imagine doing that to try and help, only to realize how much worse you made everything. She was probably overcome by guilt through that whole situation, and that was most likely part of her reason to risk her life getting the bag in the first place. She knew that she'd done nothing but ruin her friend's life up until this point, and in her head she wanted to risk her life to make it up to her somehow.
Her death is also really poetic, in the sense that it directly helped Becky to survive and get out of the situation- her body was dropped with the phone and used to call for help, so that even after death she was there for Becky. Even if she wasn't a good friend, she tried her best to redeem herself, and dying trying to do so is honestly a really good way to handle her character.

Solution. You connect the rope to each other, wrap it around the pole, then position your feet against the pole. You wrap it around the pole enough times so that you pull the rope tight when "standing" from the pole. You both then "walk" down the pole on opposite sides where the tension and friction in the rope prevents it from dropping. Similar principle to being between two surfaces, putting your hands on one side, feet on the other, and "crawling" up it.

Wrap the rope around the tower as many times as you can for a friction lock and try to slide down as gently as possible to the satellite dishes then repeat the process until you can reach the lower portion(s) of the remaining bits of ladder and/or the tower beam’s crossbars.
    Scary? Yes.
But would probably be your fastest and safest course of action in this situation.

fun fact that idk if he talked about, cause i was watching the vid on the side: emergency line calls often connect even if you have no service.
emergency lines have a thing, where your phone can use a lot more frequencies and devices for transmission than just normal cell towers. so if you are ever stranded with your car and no service, or lost somewhere, try and call anyways, even if it says no service. you dont need a service plan, a sim card, or even a single bar of connection (or visible connection at all) to call 911 and such. your phone will try to connect anyways, and every phone is open to do so, no matter the circumstances. if you are really out of range of any kind of frequency, then it might not work. but even just getting an sms out to emergency might work that way if your phone gets a random frequency that it can send on for a few seconds. in the case of the girls in the movie, write an sms, or something, try sending it every few minutes (weather and co might change, or unlikely but maybe, some mobile sender thing will pass through somewhere) then if it doesnt go through, wrap your phone in a shirt, and yeet it as far as you can towards civilisation, and pray it got some frequency during the fall. Edit: I just read up again, and some phones can apparently also use satellite comms for emergency. so even on that tower you would be save with certain phones. also if you go climbing BRING A DUCKING SATTELITE EMERGENCY PHONE!!

Once I managed to settle myself down, climb to the peak, and get the fuck out of that area, I was DONESKIES. About a year later, I was considering going back out to the same place to climb again, but the girl I had just started dating asked me not to go because she got a bad feeling about it. So I didn't go. In fact, it started making me care more about not getting hurt and I stopped free climbing altogether. Since then, I've had 2 friends fall. One broke a leg, a few ribs, and both arms. The other ended up having his right side from the femur down paralyzed. It made me wonder why the hell I ever did all that in the first place. I always thought why not just use the drone once they initially get it to float her remaining phone to the ground. The girl already on the satellite dish can just stay there, no real reason to climb all the way back to the top, and from the emergency services coming at the end we know there was signal at the bottom. So they grab the drone from the backpack, send it back up top with the selfie stick plan, then attach the phone loaded with messages to the drone, float it down to the bottom of the tower, and they both live.

I love how these movies always forget somehow that EVERY phone works without signal if you call to any emergency service lol in case of emergency calls, phones override the fact that you dont have signal from your own service provider, and literally takes ANY signal available to make that call.
So these kinds of movies would literally be done with:
Oh shoot we had an accident, what should we do??? Oh, yeah, call the emergency service of the country i live in and just wait for the help because they can track where we are! Yay!

    • @NukeWalker
      @NukeWalker Місяць тому

It works without a service provider, not without a signal, you absolutely do need a signal to send ANY kind of data. Cell towers direct their signal mostly downwards to not waste power radiating towards the sky (no users up there). If you're above the area where the signal propagates (like high on a mountain or a tower in this case) - there is no signal, you're out of luck unless your phone can connect through a satellite or you have a separate device for that.

    (1) They could use the drone just to land safely near the tower with a phone attached to it. They wouldn't even need to charge the drone. The little power remaining was enough to just land near the tower. (2) Also, they could have made a parachute for the shoe with a phone inside. (3) Or wrap the shoe in their clothes to make a bigger ball of stuff around the phone. (4) And how about putting a phone near the receptor of one of these dishes? The dish itself focuses signals, makes them stronger, just like an amplifier. (5) They could've short circuited the socket of the bulb at the top. Someone would have been alerted that there was an electrical problem in the tower.

and I also thought about the putting a cellphone on the drone part, but that would've required going down to get the backpack first [dangerous and requiring some desperation], so unfortunately they thought of the shoe thing first. And then in order to even operate the drone, they needed at least one cellphone.
