I'm Autistic myself and I did not understand a single part of Amanda Seales definition of Autism.
The definition I use to explain to people for the most part is that someone who has autism has a harder time understanding social cues. Meaning they can have a hard time telling whether or not someone is joking, and reading emotions. As a result, they can unintentionally make people feel angry and or uncomfortable without knowing they have made them angry or uncomfortable. Obviously, since autism is a spectrum there is a wide range of people who can read emotions more easily than others, however said person with autism has to be willing to stop and learn how to understand these social cues in order to avoid making people angry and or uncomfortable. This has happened to me plenty of times, and I've made plenty of people angry and or uncomfortable without knowing it, I was lucky to have good friends and family members to point out when I made those mistakes so I didn't repeat them.
From what I can tell Amanda's either an undiagnosed Narcissist or is an autistic person who is not willing to learn from her mistakes. The way she gave her definition of autism, where people will misunderstand her to make her look bad, puts the blame on others for her mis treatment when really she's the one who has mistreated others.

      Wow...
      This is amazing...
I was explaining in another commenter's thread something similar.
I am also diagnosed autistic, but in addition, live with Pathological Demand Disorder (or, as some prefer, Persistent Drive for Autonomy), which is a subset of autism. Unfortunately, the slightest hint of advice or suggestion from someone can bring forth a meltdown.
Even me knowing I have to do something, but it feels too much of a demand, I will refrain from doing it, even if it is beneficial.
Throughout this experience, I have lost many friends saying "no one understands me", placing blame on everyone else and not acknowledging my issues.
The point is... when one becomes aware of issues they may have, and when it transcends to issues with others consistently, even if it takes time, they are usually aware that it is usually not others which are the issue.
There is only so much blaming towards others you can do, whether you are autistic or not.
I still have the same issues, the only thing now is...if I do have a meltdown or become defensive, I apologise for my acts, for they are difficult to control. I also let people know ahead of the conversation these things may happen depending on the narrative of the conversation. That, or I just refrain from any deep conversation (which is thoroughly difficult for me)...
Amanda seemed extremely aware that EVERYONE ELSE was the issue... I never knew avoiding accountability was an autism issue...
Once again, I really adore your perspective.

This! I'm an African in Africa who's never been diagnosed but has a somewhat difficult time connecting with people. I made sure to study social cues and read people's expressions. I'd always replay the day's events and see if I unintentionally upset anyone then I'd speak to them the next day, ask them how they felt about what I'd said to them and then apologise if they said it left a bad taste in their mouth (this was back in my corporate days).
Amanda doesn't seem to take accountability for her actions and would rather put the blame on other people. Shameful

This, I am diagnosed Autistic and I am looking at Amanda and thinking I don’t even know what she is talking about, she just sounds like a narcissist who is using Autism as an excuse to be horrible. Like I couldn’t even hug my parents and get uncomfortable around my partner. I make people feel uncomfortable without even realising and she just sounds like she is self absorbed as opposed to autistic.

Amanda is one of the best examples of a narcissists that I've ever seen. She has absolutely ZERO self-awareness of how she affects people. I am 100% sure that all of her stories are missing what she actually did to make people dislike her and I'm telling you...its not because she did or said nothing. I don't think it's just "Im so extra and I have a strong opinion." No, I think she is absolutely doing and saying harmful things to people but she erases it from her brain or she justifies it. HUGE Freudian slip at 30:55 where she says "you're a bully- er- I mean bullied". Um no, you were just saying a list of what people thought of you before that. She was correcting herself. Also, just before that, she said because of autism, people misrepresented her. You might say people misunderstood you, but "misrepresent" suggests people intentionally tried to make her look bad, which has nothing to do with her defense of autism.

    She also exhibits narcissistic traits:
A narcissist is an individual who exhibits traits associated with narcissism, a personality trait characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance, a deep need for admiration, and a lack of empathy for others. Narcissism can range from normal self-interest to pathological behavior, often referred to as Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). Key characteristics of narcissism include:
    1. **Grandiosity:** An exaggerated sense of one's own importance, abilities, and achievements. Narcissists often believe they are unique or special.
    2. **Need for Admiration:** They require constant attention and validation from others to maintain their self-esteem.
    3. **Lack of Empathy:** Narcissists have difficulty recognizing or caring about the feelings and needs of others.
    4. **Exploitation of Others:** They often manipulate or take advantage of others to achieve their own goals.
    5. **Sense of Entitlement:** They expect special treatment and believe that they deserve more than others.
    6. **Arrogance:** Narcissists tend to be boastful and dismissive of others, believing themselves to be superior.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is a more severe manifestation of narcissism that significantly impacts a person's relationships and life functioning. It's important to note that only a qualified mental health professional can diagnose NPD.

Sometimes I wonder how many times I was mean to people without realizing, and people just felt too intimidated to tell me, and instead just chose to disassociate with me. Hannah Montoya does videos of "mean girls in real life," and "recovering mean girl" shorts, and I look at them and am like, "WTF!? That was me!!" The fact that people dislike this, means it applies to them. Because let's make this simple: without Accountability, one will have no selfreflection, will deflect, gaslight, manipulate, play the victim, lie and so on and so forth. I have a son and an ex husband with auism . My exhusband 100% acted like this before realizing he had Aspergers after our son's diagnosis in his 30s. I remember everyone in my family thinking he was a narcissist. It's really hard for people who don't know much about autism to understand that a lot of what they are making fun of and calling narcissistic is classic signs of autism. My son was also a genius (145 IQ even with extremely low verbal processing subscore) and rubbed teachers and adults the wrong way because he would correct them. I would say people loved him or hated him. Yeah it's annoying when a 5 year old corrects you because you called a manatee a whale and points to sign and asks if you can read when you tell him he's wrong. He's not being a "smart ass", he thinks he is being helpful because not everyone can read and maybe you don't have reading glasses on you. I appreciated that but not all adults did. Many of his peers hated him because he was smart and didn't hide it and quite frankly it was the adults harping on how smart he was that was the real problem. They used to call him "little professor". But I remember having to teach him not to call people "fat" and needing to explain that there wer negative social implications in calling people fat even though it is just a physical fact like "skinny" "black" or "child" to him. We literally spent 2 years in thearpy when he was teen teaching him when to recognize that he owed someone an apology because he had so many issues understanding why what he did deserved an apology, not just an explanation that it wasn't intentional. I remember his first grade teacher calling him a sociopath to the principal because he was "too smart not to know better" when they explained she needed to walk him through why he needed to apologize and what to say. He also had a direct flat tone of voice that people took the wrong way. He often would tell his side leaving out all the extra context that helped me understand what went wrong because he had no ideal those were factors in what went wrong. I had to learn to read between the lines and ask the clarifiying questions to get a full picture surrounding the event.
And she's not lying about it costing thousands of dollars. I spent over 6 thousand dollars getting my first son diagnosed and I remember the doctor saying it "appeared to be a clear case of autism" the first time she met with us before he even started the testing. A proper diagnosis requires testing with several different specialist to rule out any other possible causes and to show it is a "spectrum disorder" and not just a learning disability or personality disorder. My second son I have gone through testing 3 times (plus his school had some people come out and test him because they couldn't believe he didn't get a diagnosis) and $12k later I am still hearing "could be, he has a lot of autistic traits, but lets test him again in another 3 years because it might just be ADHD". And the crazy part is I agree, it could just be adhd and growing up in a family where we normalize autistic behaviors (because no one should have to be fake to fit in at home). Autism is hard to diagnose because there is no clear cut diagnostic test. And like she said, it's particularly hard for minorities to get diagnosed because most of the autism tests are based on research from white boys. The rate of girls getting diagnosed is 10x higher than it was 20 years ago and boys still outnumber girls 4 to 1. The stats show black people are significantly disproportionately diagnosed several years later than white boys. And there are many in the autism community who are self diagnosed because they took a test online. The truth is many adults do not seek a clinical diagnosis because there is no benefit for adults unless you need disability services. There is no cure or medication for autism. And a autism diagnosis is not required for social skills therapy. If she doesn't need disability services she would just be paying for "proof". I do think people over self diagnose because autistic traits can be caused by other disorders, but my guess is that her therapist suggested she had autism and she should get tested, and she just did the screening test and said she wasn't spending thousands of dollars to confirm the resluts. She likely got defensive because she has been dealing with the stigma and lack of knowledge about autism in the black community. My son was clinically diagnosed and it took his father 5 years to accept it and another couple more years for the rest of his family to believe it. Only for them to realize once they educated themselves on the signs, that it ran in their family.
Until she gets social skills therapy Amanda will continue to not know why everyone thinks she is difficult. If she could figure it out on her own, it wouldn't be autism. She can't see what her problem is until she understands what the social norms are and how she is failing to meeting them. I feel so sorry for her. Because the issue with self diagnosis in the autism and ADHD community is that they see neurodivergence as "validation" for their behavior instead of as a disorder that requires intervention. When no one actually shows you the raw data detailing where your social skills are severely behind your peers, it's easy to believe the issue is that people are just trying to change you into some cookie cutter social norm. One the best things about auistic people is that they have low social expectations and accept most people as they are. It's understandable they expect the same treatment until they learn the difference between "socially uncomfortable behavior" and "different".
I have a masters in communications disorders now and volunteer at a developmental disabilities office to help adults (especially minorities ) get affordable diagnosis because of the cost. A lot of what she is saying is their experience... people not liklng them because they are too literal, too direct, "mean", poor communication skills, because they don't answer questions appropriately, etc. They often have issues seeing events from a different perspective than their own ("Theory of MInd"), keeping jobs or maintaing relationships because they lack the ability to quickly recognize and recover from social faux pas. An "inability to read the room" or "unable to meet social expectations" is pretty much the definition of autism. It's not that they are selfish, it is that they don't think in social generalizations or prioritize adjusting to norms. My son was a level 2 and his father is level 1, but I remember his father saying that our son was lucky he had more severe symptoms because he was doing much better because he got early intervention. At the time my son was in the 9th grade taking his first college class online and his IEP said he had the social skills of a 7 year old. In his 20s now my son has excellent perspective taking and conflict resolution skills. He isn't "arguementative" and also no longer has a flat tone of voice. But he had to have direct intervention to get there. My ex husband was well into his 20s when we met and had never had a relationship or a job last more than 2 months becuase he lacked any conflict resolution skills and really couldn't see when he was rubbing people the wrong way. My son is already making way more money in his early 20s than he does because he learned "professional behavior" skills. Your 9 year old will do fine as long as you stay committed to addressing her social skills .

Narcissists don't care to explain or aggrandize themselves. They don't need to be 'heard' or 'seen' by others.
Amanda might be autistic but.....she is also just not a nice person. I'm on the spectrum, I can be 'difficult' but not because i'm argumentative. I just blurt out stuff, or get overwhelmed, or go on a tangent(adhd😅)or forget things, interrupt people, etc. I don't always get what people mean or I misinterpret social questions, sure. But I'm not universally hated for being argumentative, rude and unapologetic.

More examples of Main Character Syndrome. She thinks being rude, aggressive & unlikable are positive traits while simultaneously deluding herself.

The problem is that she does not see herself like that at all, she is not even self conscious enough to see that she comes off as rude. She really thinks people are jealous of her or insecure next to her cause she is too smart, too bright, has too much talent… I guess her mom told her that growing up… and that’s why she keeps repeating that she is not the problem other people are, the list of excuses she was able to made on the Breakfast club for people not liking her ( jealousy, racism, misogyny, patriarchy…) is the perfect illustration of it… she has never at any point in any itw take any accountability for people not liking her and when she can’t find an excuse she just does not know why
