I'm Autistic myself and I did not understand a single part of Amanda Seales definition of Autism.
The definition I use to explain to people for the most part is that someone who has autism has a harder time understanding social cues. Meaning they can have a hard time telling whether or not someone is joking, and reading emotions. As a result, they can unintentionally make people feel angry and or uncomfortable without knowing they have made them angry or uncomfortable. Obviously, since autism is a spectrum there is a wide range of people who can read emotions more easily than others, however said person with autism has to be willing to stop and learn how to understand these social cues in order to avoid making people angry and or uncomfortable. This has happened to me plenty of times, and I've made plenty of people angry and or uncomfortable without knowing it, I was lucky to have good friends and family members to point out when I made those mistakes so I didn't repeat them.
From what I can tell Amanda's either an undiagnosed Narcissist or is an autistic person who is not willing to learn from her mistakes. The way she gave her definition of autism, where people will misunderstand her to make her look bad, puts the blame on others for her mis treatment when really she's the one who has mistreated others.

      Wow...
      This is amazing...
I was explaining in another commenter's thread something similar.
I am also diagnosed autistic, but in addition, live with Pathological Demand Disorder (or, as some prefer, Persistent Drive for Autonomy), which is a subset of autism. Unfortunately, the slightest hint of advice or suggestion from someone can bring forth a meltdown.
Even me knowing I have to do something, but it feels too much of a demand, I will refrain from doing it, even if it is beneficial.
Throughout this experience, I have lost many friends saying "no one understands me", placing blame on everyone else and not acknowledging my issues.
The point is... when one becomes aware of issues they may have, and when it transcends to issues with others consistently, even if it takes time, they are usually aware that it is usually not others which are the issue.
There is only so much blaming towards others you can do, whether you are autistic or not.
I still have the same issues, the only thing now is...if I do have a meltdown or become defensive, I apologise for my acts, for they are difficult to control. I also let people know ahead of the conversation these things may happen depending on the narrative of the conversation. That, or I just refrain from any deep conversation (which is thoroughly difficult for me)...
Amanda seemed extremely aware that EVERYONE ELSE was the issue... I never knew avoiding accountability was an autism issue...
Once again, I really adore your perspective.

This! I'm an African in Africa who's never been diagnosed but has a somewhat difficult time connecting with people. I made sure to study social cues and read people's expressions. I'd always replay the day's events and see if I unintentionally upset anyone then I'd speak to them the next day, ask them how they felt about what I'd said to them and then apologise if they said it left a bad taste in their mouth (this was back in my corporate days).
Amanda doesn't seem to take accountability for her actions and would rather put the blame on other people. Shameful

This, I am diagnosed Autistic and I am looking at Amanda and thinking I don’t even know what she is talking about, she just sounds like a narcissist who is using Autism as an excuse to be horrible. Im a licensed therapist. Here are my thoughts; Amanda is extremely subconsciously insecure. As a result, her default personality setting is defensiveness. Her defense mechanism is to fein arrogance in the form of false superiority. This is why she claims people hate her because they are jealous or spiteful of her success. This fake superiority is likely because at some point in her early life, she determined that in order to survive her home life she had to pretend to be confident. At some point she pretended so much that defensiveness and fake confidence became her entire personality. As a result, she is incapable of 100% personal accountability. This is often referred to as a personality disorder. Symptoms include unstable relationships, anger, difficulty at work, difficulty regulating emotions, suspiciousness and distrust, need for instant gratification, etc. sound familiar?

Idk if you were actually a therapist you’d understand that everything she’s going through is exactly what people with high IQs, those with certain learning disabilities which is common with people with high IQs, and those who are on the spectrum etc deal with. They become socially isolated and get picked on and ostracized for their neurodivergence and atypical mannerisms and social awkwardness. I will never understand why in society people hate the bold and opinionated-then people are asked of their opinions.

I'm no therapist, but it seems as though she expects an instant personal connection with everyone she encounters. I gathered this from her saying she "dapped up" her new boss who responded "keep it professional" , which offended her; almost as though there were no boundaries place on her end. Though it is feasible to want a personal connection with the ones around you, one must keep in mind those things have to happen Naturally and take Time. Then there are those who you'll never have a connection with, let alone a personal one and that's okay too.

I'm an autistic black light skinned woman whose autism went unrecognised until adulthood.
I had groups of friends shun me out for seemingly inexplicable reasons. Being told I was too rude but with little explanation of my rudeness. Or that I wasn't caring despite lending hours of my time to support friends.
Difference between me and Amanda being that even during all of those times in school and even into early adulthood, I *always* had people who stood by my side and recognised the truth of who I was. I may have been unaware of how I was coming across to those who rejected me, but there were always people who understood me too. People who saw my truthfulness and bluntness as simply that and didn't perceive it as rudeness.
Another thing that sets me apart from Amanda is that I grew to understand _why_ I was being perceived negatively. I know how internally frustrating it is to overhear conversations where there are misunderstandings that can be easily corrected, or people are mistaken, and I know the right answer. But what I know *now* is that people do not appreciate you butting in with that information they did not ask for. I know that from this side of things the intention is to be helpful. But part of understanding neurodivergence and being a neurodivergent person is in understanding that people who are _not_ neurodivergent also communicate in ways that differ from us. Just because we are aiming to be helpful, or truthful, does not mean it is necessarily coming across as intended.
Now, I'm not going to pretend to be something I'm not or shrink myself down. But I've also learned to be *respectful* and part of that respect is learning when to pause and not volunteer my unsolicited opinion. Or keep my truthful thought to myself because it will not *add* to the situation.
Yes, people on the spectrum would benefit from others being more aware and accepting of our differences. But if we want to be afforded that kindness we must also offer that kindness ourselves.
A lot of us do have very rigid ways of seeing the world that comes with a strict sense of personal morality. There's nothing wrong with that. But if we cannot recognise that our world is not necessarily the right fit for everyone else. And worse still, if we can't recognise that every person exists in their own world and decide to try and navigate that and work with other people's differences, then we will forever find ourselves in these situations.
Amanda is too damn old and too damn cognisant to fail so spectacularly at recognising her own behaviours and how they are being perceived. She's caught up in this victim mindset and "I'm never wrong" mentality and it will continue to push people away until she is a lonely old woman. I hope for her sake she's able to step outside of herself to figure this shit out because she's acting a whole fool and... got damn it's embarrassing for her to be using autism to excuse and explain away her bullshit.
Yes, autism negatively effects our ability to communicate. But autism is not a free pass to be an absolute cunt without regard for the impact we're having on others. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I will also add that self-diagnosis is valid. A lot of people do not have access to adequate assessment (not in her case) but also there is a huge lack of understanding of autism and how it presents in women and black women in particular, she's not wrong in that.
That said... she should NOT be using her self-diagnosis like this. It's hugely inappropriate.

It's crazy to see a person so set in not learning how to self-improve. My personal experience with autism has just been an endless toil to try and understand why people don't like me, how I can be better, how I can be a better friend, how I can still love myself, how I can be a better communicator....wild to see someone who considers themself a whole ass middle aged autistic adult and seems to think they have never done anything wrong ever.
Autism ain't an excuse, it's an explanation, and it's annoying to see this lady throwing our community under the bus along with herself.

Throughout my education and career this is what i've learned, experienced from people when i diagnosed them and what made me see the deadgiveaway Throughout the decade of experience. The fact that people dislike this, means it applies to them. Because let's make this simple: without Accountability, one will have no selfreflection, will deflect, gaslight, manipulate, play the victim, lie and so on and so forth. Narcissism is a personality style that involves being extremely self-centered and preoccupied with one's own needs, often at the expense of others. People with narcissistic tendencies may have an inflated sense of self-importance, an excessive need for admiration, and a lack of empathy for others. They may also be arrogant, manipulative, and demanding, and may have difficulty understanding how their behavior affects others.

And the record states someone willing to take absolutely no accountability. According to her everyone else needs to check their behavior. In her world she is flawless.

Quite honestly love what you do here go back watch the interview and reevaluate your evaluation. I think when you judge somebody on the place of anger of a place of hate it’s hard to see them as a person. She pacifically said the reason why she say those responses is because those are things that been said to her people have told her they don’t like her because she’s. Light skin . She’s not insinuating that due to her light skin people don’t like her.
And I love that you said people don’t like me because I’m perfect’ she didn’t say that. I like how you put your own twist to it diva.
And I digress I repeat people don’t like her because she’s vocal. Yes she does bring up her self and victim situation but imagine living in the world just being yourself and everywhere you go. Someone is like I don’t like that…..
There is only a few amounts of celebrities that care about black history and black suffrage in blackness of it. All she is not getting paid for this. She’s actually losing money for advocating for Black people.
and this people don’t like her is the fact of the matter of what people have said to her and she’s regurgitating what they said, and she explained that in the interview which she would know if you were listening. I love debate, but at least bring both sides to the cuts and y’all paint her out to be the bad guy, all these people don’t like you (she’s vocal) You forgot this interview was about her life. Everyone that comes on Shannon sharps talks about their life. she is sick therapy and she’s taking accountability. If she’s hurting anyone in the past, she apologize in the video did you watch that part thing? My thing is use the same judgment that you judge yourself with. Because no one knows it all no one does. She’s gone to school have you and created a whole ass major about what she discusses on she talks about the research paper that she done to support the feeling she has love for and hip-hop and black history.
Then again tone plays a big role of how things are taken, and one thing is off is her tone. She is tone deaf . She could be nicer with her excuation and all the people who come on her and comment the hatred y’all have her. I want you too look in the mirror everyone came on the show and told there stories but when she already have pre set image of her people base her of that. Remember Malcolm X and Martin Luther king had the same premise Equality for people but went about it different ways
