Мелодия этой композиции взята из песни «Из-за острова на стрежень», слова к которой написал поэт, фольклорист и этнограф Дмитрий Садовников (1847-1883).
Я в детстве думала, что песня о городе Набережные Челны, он как раз на берегу. Что это город выплывает.)))

This version is more true to Russian folk song which inspired the Seekers version. The Russian folk song has a completely different lyrics, but it such a wonderful and evocative tune no matter who sings it!

Dieser Titel war wohl als A- Seite vorgesehen. Zum Hit wurde allerdings die B- Seite, "Going back west"!
Eventuell eine Erklärung dafür, dass dieser Titel verdrängt und wohl auch deshalb kein Hit wurde.
Dabei sind beide Titel absolut höhrenswert!
Auch war zu dieser Zeit die N--D-W Kult und verdrängte englischsprachige Titel. Läuft selten im Radio.

Да, русская народная песня, самые известные слова - "Из-за острова на стрежень" Дмитрия Садовникова. У Boney M слова, конечно, другие. Про Стеньку Разина там, скорее всего, очень мало кто знает.

I think you are mistaken. Granted, Bobby Farrell was a great dancer but he could not sing. When he had to appear singing, his voice was that of Frank Farian. Boney M was not finished after Booby's tragical death.

I remember buying this single in Tenerife in 1983. I wasn’t aware that Bobby Farrell had been replaced. The melody and harmonies are wonderful. Frank Farian is a brilliant record producer.
