As a guy that wears a lot of G-Shock's and dive watches. I like the instinct solar 2 for it's toughness and modern features. I'm looking forward to receiving my the instinct solar 2 👍.
It's pretty slick! Thanks for watching!
Why didn't you get a G1.. It's instinct 2 + diving
Same here, but some Protrek solar cost just as much if not more, with lesser features. So yea, this is a worthy n valued contender. Good reviews
Great review man! I'm super excited by this version 2. It has absolutely everything that I was missing in Instinct 1. Can't wait to upgrade!
For sure! It's a good one!
Greets from Serbia! Huge fan here and thumbs up for every video from your channel. Got Instinct 2 Solar Tactical, and is great watch. Tried 6x but is huge, heavy and so much features I never used. Instinct 2 Solar tactical tested, compass is great, GPS fast to lock and works very well. This one have all features I need. So yeah, you did more than 80% job to give me good recommendation for this one. Thanks a lot and keep up doing a great job.
Awesome. So so blown away they added the advanced training features - huge upgrade
Totally agree! Thanks Hunter!
I like the inclusion of smaller versions with full features. Definitely making me think about a garmin when I am upgrading my current watch. Battery life is amazing.
for sure, it's nice to have options!
I love the Instinct 2 Solar! I work construction outside so I get plenty of sun. Battery is normally at 70% after 2 weeks with full sun. Huge improvement over the Instinct, more features such as Vo2Max motivate me even more in training. Started running this year and already ran over 30 miles.
Thats the idea, To motivate ppl to do more exercise
How is your Instinct 2s solar holding up?
@@stepheno3422 Great so far! Even working construction it only has very small nics. Solar works great if you spend a lot of time outside. HR monitor is accurate.
Just picked up one of these as an upgrade to the instinct 1 solar. Terrific watch. I used it for strength training tracking daily and it's waaaay more intuitive than the Instinct. I'm very impressed so far!
I really enjoy your videos!! thanks for the content
I am going for this!!! Amazing review 🙌🏾 made it easier to make my choice
Good choice!
Great review, really love mine, great tool for everything, especially in the great outdoors, all the very best.
That was a great review…thanks!!!
These are the best reviews. I find most other watch reviews somewhat boring. I actually enjoy these reviews.
Thanks Michelle!
Very nice overview. One thing I love about my Epix (just *slightly* different watch ;) is the higher resolution to get more info on the screen at once. Glad to see this come to the Instinct 2. The never charge solar is cool as hell
Absolutely. Thanks for sharing!
Fingers crossed it’s better built than the epix and doesn’t suffer from the garmin mushy button issue
Awesome vid Dave. This is something I can actually recommend to new trail runners.
For sure, this one is super practical I think. Not a lot of fluff, good price point, lots of features.
Just received mine today! Love it!!!!
Nice! Thanks for sharing!
Great review - Thanks! You answered a lot of my questions.
Glad to hear it!
Excellent review - thanks for your effort
Excellent review, as always. Thank you for the video.
Thanks!
Wow!! Super thankful for this in-depth review! I have been using Instinct 1 for 3 years, and it has been really useful for navigation in the mountains. Now just with that improved battery/solar panel, I think it is time to say Hi! to the new version!
Glad it was helpful!
Love my Version 1 & now Solar version. Doubt I’ll be upgrading for a while. Hard to justify. Great video update.
Nice! Thanks for watching!
Very cool to see! I got the OG Instinct for a really good price (Thanks Amazon Warehouse) before Christmas and definitely am thinking about upgrading to the 2 Solar! Great video as always!
Thanks for sharing! The original is still pretty sweet!
You make stellar review videos. I hope you reach 100k subscribers soon.
Thanks!
Amazing review of the Garmin instinct 2. Thank you
Thanks!
Great and very informative video as always. Greetings from Greece!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video thank you for posting and sharing all your knowledge
Hope it was helpful!
That’s a great overview. I like a monochrome screen, and there is serious bang for your buck here. And, “great minds think alike”-my eyes locked on to that neon one instantly. It’s so 80s! Thanks Dave for your work.
lol right? I love the neon one. In fact I emailed Garmin to see if I could trade my back one for a green one!
@@ChaseTheSummit I don’t listen to music when I run, but that neon watch makes me want to dig out my Walkman and Duran Duran cassettes. 😀
Great watch for long trip.
Great review as always.
Absolutely. I could see this being a great expedition watch.
Lots of info. Thanks!
Finally the port is being moved, i cant wait for the final review 😄
I'll have lots of follow up videos!
Thanks chase for the video
Thanks for watching!
I actually bought an Instinct 1 and ended up selling it to my brother-in-law. Glad I did. The 2 looks dope.
It’s a big upgrade! Thanks for watching.
absolutely love my original instinct and still use it as my daily wearable as i have a manual hands on job and this thing is built extremely well and just generally love it. i have though recently bought a fenix 6s pro as the only thing i would say is that im starting to struggle with the data screens on my runs (eyes are getting worse) i have to say having the bigger screen and better resolution and colour is so much easier for my early 0500 runs in the dark or my weekend mid morinning runs in the sun the screen is so much clearer. but overall i would highly recommend the instinct
Thanks for sharing! I find the display on Instinct to be really good in direct sunlight (maybe even better than Fenix) but yeah... in the dark the Fenix is way easier to read!
how is the original instinct? Is it 100% reliable? Hearing that eventually it will brick itself etc etc.
Awesome.😁👍🏼 Gonna get this new instinct. Love it.😄 Better than my old instinct. Great video too👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for sharing!
Nice review. I currently have a Instinct solar surf 1st generation. I love this watch so much i had to upgrade to Instinct 2 solar 🤙
Nice! Enjoy the Instinct 2!
Thanks. Ordered the Instinct 2 Solar this morning. I thought the Epix was a little pricey so this one fits the bill.
This is certainly a nice compromise of form factor, features, and price!
I just received my instinct solar in the mail this past weekend. I really am debating about purchasing the new one, but am a fan of the bezel a lot more on the old one.
Thanks for sharing!
Great review can not wait for follow up
Will be coming soon!
Great review Dave as all ways. The lifetime battery sounds amazing. Cool update. Looking forward to follow up video after the 3 month (just a guess)😊
There will certainly be a follow up and lots of comparisons!
Great review, Glad to see the barometer port moved, Connect IQ support, and the sleep widget. It's a bit sad that Garmin Pay is practically a joke in Canada, it's pretty much a non feature for us.
Unfortunately it's kind of a joke everywhere but the U.S. lol. It would be nice to see more banks supported.
garmin pay is work in canada , just apply Manulife visa
@@ChaseTheSummit Same in most of europe. In germany only very few banks support it directly. You need kind of a virtual credit card which is then connected to your normal bank account. super strange.
@@ChaseTheSummit really? Works fine for me in Australia.
Just bought the instinct solar surf a month ago, I'm pretty happy with it but this one would have made the decision easier, it has all the little details that instinct 1 doesn't have that made me thought of buying the Fenix 6 pro in that moment that but I decided to compromise.
I think now is a very very good option, would try to change it when it's possible, but (Argentina)
Great video. I had the instinct 1 and and the FR 235 and definitely Iwant sold bouth to buy this one. I like the rough and the sport metrics.
Seems like this would combine the two!
Loving this watch, the Instinct 2 is so sick.
It certainly is!
Making the switch from Polar. Ordered the non solar because of the 349 price point. Has all the features of the Grit X Pro I wanted plus more, minus a color touch screen of course. Glad I held out on upgrading to it. Hopefully the Garmin App and I will get along. Thanks for the great reviews!
Hope you like it!
Thanks for the review! I would have gotten this if they released it last year instead of the Fenix 6 base model I got for Christmas!
Thanks for sharing!
The initial reaction is WOW. Great upgrades, but the main thing I wish is for the screen to fill out the entire inner circle.
Thanks for the video!
It’s all about battery efficiency on this one. The bezels are solar panels so the more the better! (But yeah it would look nicer edge to edge)!
@@ChaseTheSummit lets just say 20% bigger screen kills 20% of battery life, still not a bad batterylife.
@jusMTB
True. But kills 100% of solar power🤷♂️
@@jusmtb687 Right, I'd be okay with the Fenix 7 battery life... They have the edge to edge in that with solar. Maybe someday, maybe that's not what Garmin is going for...
When you get going, there really isn't all that much you're missing out on with not having the whole circle as a screen.
It's one of the best out there now
For sure, they took an already great watch and fixed the minor issues it had. Solid option!
Never been a fan of the chunky plastic look, but I appreciate Garmin pumping out updated products!
I felt the same way until I tried it. there's some thing kind of nice about the plastic build because it doesn't scratch like a metal bezel. Since the plastic is the same color all the way through abuse is less noticeable. It's certainly all about utility and less about having a premium time piece.
Loving the unlimited battery life 😁 wish more smart watches had that... A day on all the mainstream smart watches is pretty pants, the technology on these watches are amazing now but the battery is alway the letdown... Great vid, love to see more soon 👍
Absolutely. It's cool to see Garmin enter the "unlimited battery" space along side the likes of G-Shock. Thanks for watching!
@@ChaseTheSummit you're welcome, didn't realize G-Shock did one 🤦 will have to take a look back for that one lol and I may be new to your channel but loving the content 😁👍
Haha I love watching your videos but at the same time, I can tell you're a true Garmin fan boy : )
I wouldn't consider myself a fanboy. In fact I really like a lot of devices from COROS and Polar as well. I try to stay as unbiased as possible but I do like a lot of the Garmin features. Thanks for watching!
Very informative and useful review 🙂🙂🙂.
So I always seen the instinct line as a more outdoors watch and with all the updates its like the other smart sport watches. I think if they stay with the same theme of outdoor, they could had added features like better field of view with your night vision goggles, (solar tac version) sync up with a ballistic chronograph, etc. This would had gain a different community of buyers. All and all it’s a great watch and maybe with added apps can be a great tool watch of the outdoors men
I believe the tactical version does have better FOV for night vision goggles... But that's not something I'll ever test lol. Thanks for watching.
Awesome news, Dave. You just have the nicest happy flow on the presentation. Does the Instinct now have Hotkey shortcuts that are programmable? That would be the icing😁
Yup! There's hot key customization on the Instinct 2.
@@ChaseTheSummit Just ordered!😆😅
Some older folks say they need glasses to view the screen...true?
They also say that in sunlight its very hard to read...true?
Again thank you so much for the review....I was getting hopless watching all these darn videos.
This watch is the one!
I guess it depends on your eye sight? I don't have an issue reading the display. However, it is a smaller/lower resolution display compared to other garmin watches. In direct sunlight it's MORE visibile. It's harder to read in the dark.
My original instinct still runs like day 1, and I am very happy with this watch. I do enjoy the no BS approach of the instinct, no touchscreen, monochrome display, good battery life.... etc. I still get 3 weeks in normal smartwatch with HR sensor always on and GPS on auto after more then 2 years of use, so I am good. I have to say that I do love more the old design, but the new sensor port location is much better.
The original Instinct is a great watch!
Agreed. I'm looking at upgrading to the 1Solar and I really cant see that many features / differences that I would absolutely use on the 2Solar for a whole extra 140 dollars
I have been undecided to buy one; Instinct 2 or Instinct 1 because I love the look of the Instinct; not the 2.
Yea man I have been waiting for this one, I've been rocking an Instinct 2 Solar since it came out. Can't believe how much they added to the Instinct 2... Was going to get a Fenix but don't feel the need to anymore. Anyways, I prefer the black color and no one is really carrying the tactical version except PlayBetter so I used your link and just got it. Spoke to them on the phone and they seem awesome. Hope it helps you out and helps you keep doing what you're doing it's good stuff. I'm down the road from you in the Springfield area so thanks for representing MA on UA-cam my dude! Peace.
Thanks! PlayBetter is a great place to shop. Insanely fast shipping, and 2 months to return. Hope you like the Instinct 2! Greetings from just north of boston!
@@ChaseTheSummit quick question - I don’t see myself returning this as I loved the instinct solar BUT I saw all of the 60 days no questions asked return policy on PlayBetter’s website but I looked at their actual return policy for GPS watches and it pretty much says you can’t return any GPS watch once the box is opened. What’s up with the discrepancy?
@@JB-hq9yj that's interesting I didn't notice. From my experience with them they've got the best return policy around. Maybe the website is out of date. I'd contact customer support (I'll also ask on my end).
@@ChaseTheSummit Cool man let me know what you find out. I’ll be reaching out to them too when it gets delivered.
@@JB-hq9yj What I've read I just see "To be eligible for a return, your item must be returned in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging." which would imply the box can be open.
Good to hear that they fixed the issue with the barometer. I use my Instinct Solar 1 mainly for cycling and skiing and having a storm warning because of the location of the barometer port becomes a bit annoying. Hopefully they also managed to fix the notification problems with iOS 15, although that's probably more a firmware than a hardware issue. The better sleep analysis feature is also nice. The other new features are not that important for me.
The notification issue with IOS is more of an apple thing than a Garmin thing unfortunately. The phone will put Garmin Connect to "sleep" in an attempt to save battery life. I suspect Apple isn't in any hurry to help Garmin with this since they'd rather you buy an Apple Watch lol.
Great review. I'm looking to upgrade from a Fenix 3HR. That unlimited battery life is really appealing on the solar version. Plus the watch does seem to have all the bells and whistles that are important to me like SPO, HR, Sleep tracking. I'm very close to pulling the trigger. I just can't justify the price on the Fenix 7. Plus I have to see if I can get over the fact it's not color. So far looks like a great practical smartwatch.
I think the Instinct 2 is a good compromise for folks who want a Fenix at a lower price point. Thanks for watching!
Great video, I really like your approach with your personal opinions not just a summary of specs. Am I correct when I summarize the difference between Fenix 7/Epix and Instinct 2 regarding just the advanced training metrics that all is included in the Instinct 2 except for Training Load Focus? Keep up the good work.
That's right, Training Load Focus is not present but everything else is. I suspect this is only due to the small/lower resolution screen where displaying the bars/zones would be difficult.
Wow, 19 versions of this watch. I don't surf but . . . I need that surf edition. 🏄♂️ I've always thought this series of watch had a lot of features for the price. That being said, I've never been a huge fan of the design or display of these. 🤷♂️ Glad they've updated the display a bit here. 👍
The display is interesting because in some regards it's easier to see/read than a Fenix. In direct sunlight for example it's suuuuper crisp. But when it gets a little dark or at odd angles it can be a struggle. I think they know exactly who the market is for this one! Thanks for watching Matt!
Instinct 2 wow 😯 finally
Yup!
My early edition Tactical has always given good barometer readings. They closely match my nearby airport when I have elevation set correctly.
A problem comes when I use gps for an activity. Even though the watch is set for barometer mode, the elevation will change.
Interesting
Really well done 👌
Thank you 🙌
Cannot believe its out!! Great vid thank you, I'm very sad that they didn't put a in built weather function into instinct 2 though!!
Thanks! There IS a built in weather widget on Instinct 2.
@@ChaseTheSummit sorry I meant stand-alone, as in not needing phone connection??
@@isthi000ify you’ll still need a cellular connection for Weather but the Barometer widget can give you an idea on weather without cell connection.
@@ChaseTheSummit yes absolutely, many thanks man!!
very good rewiew i better know about this clock 🙂
Great review, as always. Not great colours for the 45mm Instinct 2 solar at launch in the UK. That said the Surf Edition, Bells Beach, looks good. I presume more colours will follow in due course..
I think there will end up being LOTS of colors with this one because of the plastic design. it's easy for them to just shoot different materials. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video, Dave! This is a very cool update on the Instinct, but I'll wait for the Fenix 8 to get an upgrade from my current Fenix 6X :)
Might as well wait for the Fenix 10 😉
@@ChaseTheSummit true! But i don't think I'll be able to wait that long. :D Seriously though - the F7 is an amazing watch, which brings a ton of functionality to the table. but for my current use and needs, the updates don't justify the costs, and my F6Xpro is still less than a year old.
@@rado78231 you’re just a broke clown 🤡 stop trying to excuse yourself for not getting a newer watch ⏰
@@gustavopaulette3496 hmmm... Bitter and materialistic, aren't we? So far Dave's channel had a very nice community, and it is surprising to see such comments in here.
@@rado78231 sure. If it makes you feel better about not being able to afford a good watch.
I'm still rocking the original Instinct Rugged and 5X saphire. Going to get the 7 but not in a big hurry.
I have the Instinct 1 and I am excited that they moved the sensor for elevation. If it is remotely hot out and I sweat a little, the elevation will be off. I would buy the Instinct 2 just for that alone.
It's good to see that they listened to the users!
Thank you
Thanks for watching!
What are you wearing in the video Dave? Great review as always, oof, this watch might be suitable for me. Or the fenix. Luxury choices
Epix Gen 2 👍
looks good, but as one of those who recently picked up a instinct 1 recently I am still happy with my purchase. For me the price jump (~50%) for the same spec (surf solar) isnt worth it for the added featues.
Thanks for sharing!
Great review, thank you! How do you think, is there something you want to add to this smartwatch?
In a perfect world I'd love to see real mapping on the Instinct, and music storage. But... I live in a realistic world and at this price point that's not going to happen!
Thank for all your videos about Garmin news. I love them. A question for you: The Instinct 1 has a limit integration with sensors, does the instinct 2 have a full support for sensor (Power, Cadence, Running Dynamic Pod, external HR sensor)? Thanks a lot!
Yup, full support!
@@ChaseTheSummit No, Instinct 2 doesn't have full support. For example, compared to Fenix 7, Instinct 2 doesn't have Shimano DI2, Shifting, Extended display, Muscle O2, Varia radar, Lights, Headphones.
@@leifnilsson597 I was referring to the RD pod and external HR sensor question. You’re correct in that it doesn’t support certain cycling accessories.
It's a pity I can't subscribe twice😪 good job Dave as usual 👍🏼 so u changed my mind to the instinct 2 instead of fenix 7😁
They're both really good for different purposes. I'll have a follow up video comparing the two!
@@ChaseTheSummit yeah 🤟🏼guess there's a lot of your community will be glad to watch it😃
i also love that this style of smartwatch is being made. rugged, solar, blah blah blah. good job Garmin!
Excellent review. I bought a Tactix Delta a few months ago at around US$1000. Great device. But maybe I should have waited for another few months?
They’re pretty different watches. The Tactix is awesome! Enjoy!
Buying watches are very stressed n confusing now ...all I want is Breadcrumbs, solar, n loud Chimes for alarms...under $300...oh well, hunt continue but hey, Thanks so much for your time to review Sir.
The instinct series sounds perfect for you. You might also want to consider a COROS Apex 2 which is $350 but offers similar features.
Loved the review as always. LOVED the Instinct 2. All the watch I would ever need. Quick question: seeing I currently own a Suunto with a Suunto Smart Heart Rate Belt - is that hr belt compatible with the Instinct 2? Or would I need to get another belt? As always, great content!! 🤩
Thanks! Your Suunto HR belt should work fine with the Instinct 2. Instinct 2 is compatible with bluetooth and ANT+ external sensors.
@@ChaseTheSummit thanks!!
They had surf models in the original instinct!!!
I got the instinct surf solor last year because I wanted a watch that had all the functionality and amazing battery life.. it doesnt have fancy colors, but raw functionality is amazing... But now I want the new one lol
Hah, the new shiny things are always hard to pass up! Instinct 2 is a great watch!
Owner of Instinct Solar. 100% would stay with this model, as now it's the best value for money.
Nice!
@@ChaseTheSummit $450 is fenix category a few years ago. blackfriday and primedeals will make this watch less fenixy priced.
@@ChaseTheSummit Actually updated to Instinct Solar 2. Could not resist. Worth each penny :) Thx for review
Grear review, thank you! Would you recommend me to buy this one or wait for the (hopefully) upcoming Forerunner 255 as a sportwatch for running? Thank you very much!
Hard to say what the future holds. If you need something now the Instinct 2 or even the Forerunner 245 are great options.
I will buy that Green one 😍
Nice! I want that one too!
I have now suunto 9 peak , good watch , but now I’m tinkering about instinct.
The 9 Peak is built a lot nicer than the Instinct 2 with it's sapphire lens and metal construction. However, the Instinct 2 has a surprising amount of features compared to the 9 peak. Tough call!
Wow they've packed a lot into this thing, impressive! But the battery life is of course the main event :D
I wish Instinct 3 goes all the way towards being an outdoorsman watch by adding maps and flashlight. (perhaps a color screen, so the maps are easier to uread on the smaller display? But only if the color screen doesn't shaft unlimited battery on solar models)
Imagine a watch with unlimited battery life in smartwatch mode, that has full topo maps and flashlight as a backup!
Yep! If the Instinct 2 had maps it would be a no brainer for me. I don’t think the CPU/Storage can handle that though.
I had the Instinct 1 Base model for about 2 years and I loved it, only reason I switched and got the Instinct 2 Solar Tactical model was mainly for the Solar but I figured I might as well upgrade for the new health features as well.
Hey There!!! Greetings from Brazil. Once again - thank you so much for all the content you put together. Incredibly detailed and excellent to follow through. So, I got my Instinct 2 Solar and have a quick question: when you follow a Daily Suggested Workout a preset of fields and data are displayed at the data screen. Can you edit that specific screen? I know we can edit the Data Screens for the different activity profiles, but they differ from the Daily Suggested Workout ones. So, anyway we can edit the Daily Suggested Workout ones? Thanks in advance -
I don't think you can edit the suggested workouts unfortunately.
Im Sticking with my instict 1 for now but I'm eying a fenix 7x or tactics 7 pro.
I got the original a week ago for $100
It's in like new conditions best watch I've had.
Great deal!
Thanks for the excellent video! In doubt between instinct 2 and FR245. Are there any 245 metrics that instinct 2 doesn't have? Big hug from Brazil
Are bands interchangeable with the 1st gen solar model? I'm really keen on some of the new colours. Great review by the way!
Yes, you can poke the spring bar off using a pointy object and replace it with any quick fit band from Garmin or on Amazon.
Thank you very very much for this comprehensive review. I have an instinct 1 non-solar and I'm totally in the market for an upgrade. I'm opting towards the 1 Solar over the 2 Solar for several reasons:
1- Much Cheaper
2- The 2 Solar is reported to be harder to see in low-light backlight whereas the 1 does not have that problem
3- I've seen multiple reports of some crashing and bugs with the new software in the 2
4- All of these new upgrades seem more geared towards running, which is not what I really use my Instinct for. I do Hiking, Scuba Diving, and (soon to be) Piloting, and it doesn't look like there have been any substantial upgrades to the GPS or navigation side of things to really justify the new purchase in my case.
Have you had any experiences with bugs in your Instinct 2 Solar? The biggest thing I would consider the Instinct 2 Solar for is the improved battery live, but is it really THAT much better than the 1 Solar? Would love to hear what you think. : )
The battery specs are pretty similar between Solar 1 and 2 but there's a bit of an improvement on the 2nd gen. The real advantage on Gen 2 Instinct is the additional training tools but if you don't utilize them you might as well not pay for them!
@@ChaseTheSummit Yeah I think that's the gist of what I'm coming away with here. Thanks pal, again great review.
I had issues with the original instinct solar. Was running a 100km race in the mountains and at 10pm in heavy most and rain while running by myself I tried to switch screens to navigation and it crashed. Couldn't get it back for 15 minutes, eventually I did but I sent it straight back to garmin. They sent me back the instinct 2 solar.
Now I see the instinct 2 might have the same bug, I'm hoping a software update fixes this because many people rely on the navigation of their watch.
@@shbloeb did they fix the bug?
I have the fenx 7x but I've always loved the Instinct and miss it sometimes. May get one to switch back and forth
Nice!
Great video Dave! I was just asking me a very nerdy and hypothetical question: what happens if I run 48 hours in GPS mode till the battery 's down and then make a pause in the sun? Will I be able to start a new running activity or do I have to use the charger and electricity?
Well, my body probably won't allow me to do this anyway 😅 but it could be interesting for a multiday trip for example
Thanks for your channel and hello from Europe
In GPS mode the Power Glass is more of a "battery mitigation" situation so you'll never really see the battery "charge up" in the sun... It will just slow the discharge if that makes sense. The only time you'll see it charge is if you stop the activity and drop back into power save or smartwatch mode. In which case 3 hours may increase your battery but I'll need to do more testing to confirm this.
@@ChaseTheSummit Thanks for your answer!
Good job
Thanks!
Hey Chase, I loved this video, I have one question. does the instinct 1 have climbing on it, either bouldering or regular climbing. Any input would be much appreciated
Unfortunately no, but you could make a custom activity for it to capture HR and elevation data.
Bought it!
Well said☆
Amazing watch, a bit of the opposite of the Epix 2. Step back in terms of screen quality, but huge battery life, yet doing everything I need it for. I'm really loving it. If only it came with sapphire glass and dual frequency GPS, I would upgrade from my Fenix 6 Pro right away.
For sure, the instinct 2 takes a more practical approach. It's like a minivan compared to the sports car that is the Epix 2 lol. Does everything you need it to do without being too flashy!
Great reviews as usual!! I already have the old instinct solar and I don't know if it's worth the upgrade as I don't practice running or cycling. My main activities are Crossfit, skiing and hiking and from what I understand almost all the new features are for running and cycling only and not for other activities. what do you think?
Right, the training tools are mainly geared towards cardio focused activities.
If you already have a Solar, it's probably not worth the upgrade.
Thanks for a great review! I recently traded in my instinct solar for an instinct 2. The first observation is the barometer sensor location change has helped with the readings. Second, the design change makes the buttons (particularly the activity) easy to unintentionally trigger. I started wearing the watch on my right hand to avoid this. The button guard on the Fenix helps to avoid this, I hope they can introduce it to the next generation of instinct watches. Instinct 2 has some major issues with the compass. It often loses its calibration and bearing. I sent mine back for a replacement and the new one is better but not the best. I didn't have compass issues with my old instinct or my Fenix. Seems like a lottery pick for the compass. Other than that, the instinct series is phenomenal for its ruggedness. While doing work and not being careful, I am much more comfortable with the instinct cause it can take a beating compared to my Fenix. The Fenix has a huge touch screen so the glass isn't as recessed as the instinct so makes a world of difference.
I have a instinct and a Fenix.
I enjoy my instinct more than my Fenix. Fenix is big heavy and not as comfortable as the instinct. I have to have my Fenix too tight to keep it from really shaking around. My hands/wrist swell a little so I'm always adjusting my Fenix. It's annoying. My instinct is a better watch I believe.
@@Jay-sd9ye Agreed. Same experience here. Adding to that, I find the contrast on the instinct much better than that of the Fenix so its easier to read. I have scraped the watches against the wall (on accident), and the instinct has survived without scratches. So for me, it boils down to this; for long bike rides into unfamiliar territory needing maps, I go with the Fenix. For other things or doing rough stuff, it's the instinct. On a separate note, I have run into a bug with selecting custom power modes for activities on both of these watches. I am hoping they will fix it.
