Had they worked together we’d be so far advanced by now. Washington fought for trade and skills of blacks to create ownership. Dubois fought for literary education and voting rights which if these two ideas coupled together has happened would have prevented redlining, unequal wealth distribution, housing and marketplace discrimination and so on.

Booker T Washington deserves way more respect. You follow your Utopian prince. We are moving back to Frederick Douglas, Marcus Garvey, and Booker T Washington.
Getting a degree and working for someone (even if you're well paid) is not power. Owning and controlling your own economy is. This video is backwards as to how it presents Washington and DuBois.
Without civil rights one has nothing. There were many skilled blacks such as doctors, lawyer and nurses, Jim Crow didn't allow them to practice their skills. Many of you should download the Jim Crow laws that were practiced up until the mid 20th century. DuBois was on the money and ahead of his times.
@@sterlingferguson1704 I agree! The only thing is, that you have to understand what was happening at the time. Radical Reconstruction was full of rapid change, for the better, but it still left the South in a very fragile place. The conflict between these two is between what is right, and what is realistic, as only so much change can happen in a generation.
I see a bunch of people fighting in the comments, so I am going to give my input (feel free to disagree, my knowledge on the subject isn’t infinite). DuBois’s ideas were right, but he strived for rapid change, while Washington strived for gradual change. Washington grew up as a slave, so he knew the extent of the inequality, which is why he aimed lower then DuBois. Foresight is 20/20, and so while we look at this now and are appalled at some of Washington’s ideas, he was attempting to cater to the whites, as they had the political power. The rivalry, from my perspective, seems to be between what is morally right (DuBois), and what is reasonable (Washington).
Well, no offense but it's the other way around, Washington wanted for blacks to be more independent and have pride in ownerships, of education, learning a trade,he helped many blacks be more self sufficient, while Dubois was a believer in socialist ideas, hostile towards blacks who oppose the ideas from progressive which not only catered to the detriment of blacks even to this day. .
Dubious was an elitist known for only employing the finest octoroons or quadroons humanity had to offer. Booker T was a knuckle dragging sellout who never stood up with his people. Economic uplift meant first. Cant fight for rights when you’re not making your own opportunities. We’re entitled to nothing other than what we create. Remember that the real meaning of Utopia is “nowhere” a dream.
I'm a Mexican and so far I know you got Washington wrong. I would run away from Du Bois, he wanted to be given everything the government could give him and HE would chose how and who to give it to. That's scary.
So This Is Just Like MLK Jr. Vs. Malcolm X In Terms Terms Of American Education Nowadays And I THought Mary McCloud Bethune Was Right To Be An Educator This Whole Time!
I like W.E.B. Dubois's approach to leading blacks out of oppression. And that was ultimately being a part of the political making process. For Booker T. Washington's approach, blacks would always be in a submissive state always subject to total manipulation by the oppressor.

Dubois brought nothing to the table.
Nope Dubois was apart of the Black Boule and he was part of the group that got Marcus Garvey deported from the USA.
Du Bois fought for that only for 10% of blacks

Africa starting a free trade union is a start.
If Frederick Douglass were alive and been able to have met Booker T - He would have punched that malignant dwarf in the face.

This video doesn’t represent Booker T. Washington’s position as voiced in his autobiography. Of course, it’s only a short clip.
How?

Glad to see the video, but the portrayal of Washington is weak.

Can you explain how
I always thought this would be a fascinating topic for a movie. Denzel Washington as Booker T and Melvin Van Peebles as Dubois perhaps.
