Beautiful truck! Keep it that way. Prior Lake/Savage Minnesota, Highway 13! I drive that fairly weekly, lol. Wonder if it would've been a bit faster with the optional C6 3 speed automatic transmission? That granny low 4 speed manual isn't exactly made for speed shifting, lol. Love the truck!

@@rumrivertriples4073, true the non-overdrive automatic transmissions of that era were not known for the quickest shifting, but were pretty durable as the manual transmissions also were. Love the look of the 1979 Ford fullsize trucks! Last year of that body style before the 1980 "bullnose" Ford. I'm a Ford fan. My current ride is a 2020 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 Super Cab with the 2.3 liter EcoBoost four cylinder. This trio sure did give my truck noticeable "seat of the pants" added scoot! Soon to be put on are Pertronix high performance/output coils, colder pre-gapped spark plugs and some custom vehicle specific custom tunes. This should hopefully push my ride into the mid to high 13 second quarter mile range. 0-60 MPH should be in the low to mid 5 second range. This truck also gets a consistent 22-24+ MPG in "mixed" work/daily driving. I've gotten as much as 27.5 MPG at 70 on the freeway on longer trips (hand calculated). I'd love to see a simple P-Pump Cummins six cylinder turbo diesel with a 6 speed manual put into a truck like your Ford F-250. Yes I agree the Ford 300 cid 6 cylinder engines were "torquey" & also long-lasting and durable, but not too quick. But they were meant as any "economy" motor instead of a bigger gas guzzling V8 like a 351, 390, 460 etc so were never meant to be a powerhouse, lol. You have an awesome Ford F-250 there!!
Im looking at buying a last year f150 with the 300 straight 6 its a 2wd short bed with a 5 speed .... i cant wait to have one as my daily but if that 300 ever gives up the ghost shes getting a 351
I chose to run a single exhaust for a few reasons; I already had a fairly new factory exhaust system, the Walker y-pipe was readily available to keep the exhaust simple, and thirdly, I really don't like how these sound when they're noisy. I do plan a 2.5" mandrel bent single exhaust with a quiet Magnaflow down the road
Never tried testing it this year with the new carb. I'd estimate around 12-15mpg highway depending on whether I'm cruising 60mph or pushing it harder. I don't put enough miles on it for it to matter much to me.
It might’ve been a little faster if you had revved it higher, they have a smooth power band and torque band. 5k rpms would probably make it faster but they can rev 6k with the setup you got

The weight difference would be pretty negligible. Bear in mind that this is a 2wd so the main weight difference would be the Dana 60 rear and some heavier brakes/suspension components

Im looking at buying a last year f150 with the 300 straight 6 its a 2wd short bed with a 5 speed .... i cant wait to have one as my daily but if that 300 ever gives up the ghost shes getting a 351
What are the power and economy differences with the Offy ,exhaust manifolds, n carb?
Keep hangin on to the shifter and the clutch will burn out much sooner than it normally would.
Nice truck!
Pulling and braking is what mattered in 79
nice truck !!!!
You drove it like my grandma
How much of an upgrade in power was the intake and carb? Don't care about dyno numbers, but how well does it pull up a hill on the highway?
It's better for sure. Down way low I think it's a wash but if I hold a gear a little longer there is definitely more in the 2800-3500 area
@@rumrivertriples4073 Great! Thanks for the reply.
I thought the thing was rhd untill I saw the store logos lol
I love you truck if you have an efi exhaust manifold was wondering why you didn't run dual exhaust?
I chose to run a single exhaust for a few reasons; I already had a fairly new factory exhaust system, the Walker y-pipe was readily available to keep the exhaust simple, and thirdly, I really don't like how these sound when they're noisy.
I do plan a 2.5" mandrel bent single exhaust with a quiet Magnaflow down the road
@@rumrivertriples4073 did you have any problems installing the efi exhaust manifold
Okay, now do that with a full payload! also, 3/4 ton's are a little heavier. still a beut!
What's your fuel consumption on the 300 because I want to make a 79 f250 my daily but the only problem is I have 4.56 rear end gears
Never tried testing it this year with the new carb. I'd estimate around 12-15mpg highway depending on whether I'm cruising 60mph or pushing it harder. I don't put enough miles on it for it to matter much to me.
A 300 with 4.56s and stock tires would give you a top speed of about 55! Lol
It might’ve been a little faster if you had revved it higher, they have a smooth power band and torque band. 5k rpms would probably make it faster but they can rev 6k with the setup you got
Maybe a little bit. I really think it stops pulling much over 4-4200rpm. Keeps revving and making noise but that's about it
@@rumrivertriples4073 Yeah, that’s how my truck is. You can feel the power decrease after about 4K RPM
The hp and torque drop dramatically after 2800 rpms, that's why it was intended for low rpm use.
does it have twin i beam suspension in the front
⚡🦄⚡ What's the dash calendar for? Lol!
It's a throwback. My grandpa who I bought the truck with always had one in his truck from the local bank. Since the truck is from the same small town I try to get a new calendar every year.
@@rumrivertriples4073 ⚡🦄⚡ Right on! I had a tricked out 1952. Had a pumped up 350, 4 bolt, high rise manifold, with high lift cam and headers. It would do 14s in the 1/4. I did all the work myself even body and paint. I drove it every day for over 35 years. Hated to get rid of it but my health got in the way. Take care of your truck. It's a good one! Thanks for your kind reply! 🚚
Awesome thanks! What rpms are you shifting at on the pull and when do you normally shift?
I was shifting around 4200. I tried 4000 and 4500 and there was not a major difference. With head porting and a better camshaft it would like more RPM but it's pretty much out of breath by 4k
@@rumrivertriples4073 Awesome thank you for the reply. I am asking because I am working on the exact same truck but it's entirely stock, no intake upgrades. I'm having trouble figuring out when to shift and figuring out what sounds/feels normal for daily driving. Thanks again!
300s are done by about 3,500 honestly.
@@superduty4556 that's very possible. The RPM drop from the 2-3 shift is so big on the np-435 that it does seem to pull better when I leg it out in 2nd gear a bit past peak
@@superduty4556 Nice thanks! I've been shifting around 2200/2500. Truck is 10 years older than me and I am still learning what these old things are supposed to sound/feel like compared to the modern manual cars that I learned stick on. For someone like me, the sound of 1900/2100 in second gear sounds like the engine is screaming to shift. In reality, it still has a normal 500 more rpm to push. Lots to learn still and thank you for the comment! I will not ever push 3500.
why is your video backwards?
An old bullet proof work truck...it's functional all day long...
looks good to me ...you really dont want a 12 sec quarter mile in a vehicle thats designed to pull your rv...try that test with a versa!
Problem is that I've seen 12 second trucks that could pull an RV way better than this. This is America and I kinda do want to have my cake and have it tow my RV too. Maybe someday.
It's a 7 minute video, so that's about right
Time to throw a high compression 460 in it .
That's faster [than] my truck! I'm doing good to get 16 in my zero to 60
Edited "in" to "than".
I doubt it's far off... My 1/4 trap speed was like 68mph
@@rumrivertriples4073 I'll have to do 0-60 again. Maybe I'll have to buy one of those little gadgets you got and try it out LOL
@@rumrivertriples4073 you wouldn't happen to have the link to the dragy would you? I looked on Amazon wasn't able to fined it.....
It’s a farm truck. It’s meant for low end torque not speed.
Why is the video mirrored?
Accidentally had it in selfie mode when I was videoing. Apparently it mirrors it automatically. Who knew?
rhd ?
I paused when you got to O'Rilley's. I'm gonna guess 13 second 0-60
Feels weird replying to myself, but holy shit I was almost right on the money
Yeah you were pretty close
Load the truck bed down and the 1/4 mile times will not change much .
U can put duel y on your f250 i did
The 300 is a workhorse, not a speed demon. Since you are so disappointed in it, I'll take it off your hands for scrap price.
What the hell left-hand-drive right-hand-drive optical illusion what up
The camera was flipped for some reason.
Might be slow but who cares very reliable😉💯
Left hand driver ? Camera? Or custom
Ha the camera was in selfie mode and put it as a mirror image. Future project is to figure out how to fix that. Still learning
@@rumrivertriples4073 if you record with your rear facing camera that will fix it, assuming you where using your phone for that footage? otherwise theres app and website online to convert the footage around that's already recorded
22 second in the quarter
It's a 6 cylinder full sized pickup. That's as fast as any.
Right hand drive?
1st part of the video had it "mirrored". The 0-60 / 1/4 mile was shot normal.
What the hell . That was super slow
It's a tractor
where are you i see right hand drive.
If you look closely it's actually left hand drive. It is a mirror image due to an incompetent camera man (me)
I don’t think people actually go to Mexico to test dragys😂 they’re just saying that to get past the algorithm. My b if he’s just joking or people actually do.
You won't get back to the future with this tech
As slow as it is I bet a DeLorean isn't a whole lot faster. I bet I could do 88mph but I'd need a couple miles to get to the clock tower!
DeLorean cars could not reach 88 mph in the 1/4 lol
I love my old 87 f250 4×4 hey u can puy
300 wasn't ever made to go fast in any Ford truck, hauling and towing with good fuel economy and durability that's why they were used a lot in commercial vehicles.
An F-150 would be a little faster. Probably a thousand pounds difference between a F250 in a F-150
The weight difference would be pretty negligible. Bear in mind that this is a 2wd so the main weight difference would be the Dana 60 rear and some heavier brakes/suspension components
What the hell man trucks all backwards
Used the front facing camera on my phone. Didn't flip it when I edited the video. Whoops
0-60 guess is 14 seconds Edit: I was close I guess😂
Not a bad guess, I probably could have used a sundial
Rum River Triples 😂😂😂
I'm sure it would do a little better with somebody that knew how to drive
Definitely not 4.11s
2nd at 45 is normal for 4.11s
You're leaving 1st at 45~
he said he had a 3.54 rear end in the video
My 96 300 would waste it. I break the tires loose when I shift to 2nd. Your shifts lost about 3 seconds. You need a better trans and drive it like you stole it
