Dont worry about what the 5000 is worth, the smile on your face when driving it makes it priceless. My Dad drove Ford tractors all his life on the farm, started with high Majors, through E1A Majors, 4000's (he preferred 3 cyl engine), 6600 and ended his working life with a 7610.

Nostalgia it’s a good thing. In the 60s early 70s our farm supported 3 families including my parents 3 casual labourers on 220 acres milking 40 cows 70 pedigree Suffolk sheep and 1 shed of battery hen’s hand crank muck conveyor and corn and roots to feed them. Everything stoped for mothers picks. But then there’s the pulling of the swedes topping and tailing and not forgetting the raking up after the finger bar hedge cutter.

We would dream of having cabs on the 165 and 188 which just have the roll frame. When we asked the chap we were working for if he,d get some cabs the stock answer was"buy a thicker coat".

Excellent video, also brought back very happy memories for me too. 2x 5000 carting grain and Claas matador combine, always stopped for dinner and an afternoon brew with some cake to keep you going till the dew came down. So much happier times back then, if it broke down you got the spenners out not a laptop.
Thanks for showing us a true classic 👍

Your right about the 80's I can appreciate what your take on those times were like because I was part of it. But hasn't every job or business gone into flat out mode nowadays. We used to have a 7000 and it had a leaking manifold could'nt work out while I was falling asleep. You never had that problem on a massey 188 without a cab. Happy days.

Brings back a lot of memories we used to run nearly all fords apart from a couple of masseys , great times especially stopping for breakfast and lunch and we still managed to get the jobs done !

Also had a 5000 with replacement 6610 engine was our loader tractor for 4 years very noisy whiney cab though gave you sore ears after a long day but bought it for 4500 only needed a water pump two replacement front rims & tyres plus servicing recorded no hours as clock was at 8900 when we got it & didn’t work sold for 4500 when we got a manitou A very profitable tractor

We had a loan ford 5000 ... when I was 11 years old..back in 1981..our Leyland 272 went in for a new clutch..i had the 5000 on a set of parmiter seed harrows... what I didn't like was..i was sat to low down in the seat and it was noisier than the Leyland....But... anyway beggers can't be choosers.... especially when you're 11...
Cracking tractor... best off keeping hold of it..

Lovely gem you got there Richard, she's in fine condition for her age and I agree she looks better with a few age marks on her, How many tractors have you actually got there on the farm? Maybe a future video could be brief walk around video of all the machinery you own, I'm sure it would go down a treat with the viewers.

I remember rotavating acres of spud ground with one of these. Deaf as a post at the end of the day but loved every minute of it. No front weights so wheelies every where. Bit of a handful at full chat down the road though.

  • @mikeman584

Same as you Richard really brought back a lot of nostalgia to an era when there was a little bit of time set aside for a proper lunch break etc. I think unfortunately farming for years has been too much of a victim of its own success and supermarkets wringing every last penny out of the job. Very though provoking as usual.

  • @gordonmilne6209

Hi, I would say it would be worth £8000 if it had original engine and the condition its in you would be taking £9000/£10,000 very rare to see then like this condition. Keep hold of it the now as classic tractor prices are on the up.

Noisy but nice, just start em up every so often and have a spin round. Address the rust from getting any worse. We're the 000 range the first to have self levelling breaks? Do the hydraulics stay up with something on when locked?
    JD next then.
