Ask IAF then, they have good experience in not inducting indigenous projects. They might add we need Bigger and Huge UCAV which can carry 1000ton payload and can work in temp of -100 C

Government should prioritise Kaveri Engine and know it's importance. Making successfully a fighter jet engine is a huge achievement for a country itself. Once a country may build nuclear weapons but can't fighter jet engine. There are only 4 or 5 countries who have successfully developed one or multiple fighter jet engines like, USA, Russia, France, Britain and later China. We all know Chinese are copycat, however they have successfully build their engine, still they have struggled a lot. We also struggled but built an engine, although less powerful but still it's an achievement. We should not let our knowledge and expertise about to die what we've achieved after a lot of struggle. You know if I was a defence minister, Kaveri engine project would be my top priority list. If we have our own engine, then we may may sell our jets without any fear, without caring what USA, France and West think. It would not only our technological successes but also a geopolitical success too

This is a fantastic development and hopefully will accelerate progress on Ghatak and its variants. The future of warfare is drones and autonomous vehicles and the more we invest in these kinds of technologies, the better prepared we would be to emerge victorious in long drawn conflicts. Kudos to our scientists and engineers for accomplishing this. please for gods sake i hope the engine program is not married to the swift and ghatak programs.

While watching the video I was thinking, about Air refueling with bigger Su30MKI sized vehicle.
This is a much needed boost. In a way it’s smart to focus on this rather than MALE drones as that bus has already passed us. If v have to leap frog to the front in the drone game v should focus on the next gen cutting edge in drones which is what SWifT is . Leave the MALE to pvt sector. Ghatak will be a really powerful platform as it is the real deal when it comes to drones. MALE drone r practically useless against countries with proper EW and air defense capabilities. Ghatak type of drone which is more like a force multiplier for jets which puts it in a totally different league in terms of drone tech. Glad some strategic vision is being shown in this as the regular catch up mode will be useless especially in drones as v r already far behind in the MALE drone sector.
SWIFT has a better role for Short range reconnaissance
Meanwhile our Ghatak UCAV will be a long range Bomber

The new-aircraft-new engine risk is more manifest in a manned aircraft than in an unmanned aircraft. There's very little risk in getting the Ghatak off the ground with Kaveri. Kaveri needs in-flight testing....you can do it by replacing one of the twin engines on an aircraft (useful initially) and/or flying it on an unmanned aircraft.
Tapas, Swift, Ghatak & Archer will drive IAF & IA’s drone/UAV fleet.

This video is not from the December 2023 test . It is a video of the first flight test but it made the second flight test without a vertical stabilizer ( December 2023).

Alpha defense also said they won't announce rollout but only the first flight.
That's why I was confused if it is delayed further from that timeline.

Other nations do 1-2 tests, then mass produce the weapon as XY-1 variant. Then do more improvements and tests and mass produce as XY-2 variant. Whereas Indians keep doing tests after tests after tests for decades of even perfectly working weapon system and never do mass production for 1-2 decades. Why? Because Indian armed forces bosses like to buy foreign arms so that they get to visit abroad and enjoy personally, hence they always keep asking Indian scientists to do more improvements in Indian weapons even when Indian weapon is better and cheaper than foreign weapon at that time. Example - NAG anti tank missile is much better than Israeli Spike missile, but Indian army bosses still will not give go ahead for NAG mass production and instead buy inferior Israeli Spike missile for half billion dollars.
Same will happen to this tailless drone of India. The Indian army bosses will keep forcing Indian scientists to do test after test for decades, and buy inferior foreign drones instead for billions of dollars.
Common sense says that to build anything, you need tools. Instead of building tools and industrial infrastructure to build a weapons platform, these guys start from building the end product. You are building a jet engine but do not have a testing platform ? This kind of thinking results in a situation where a fighter jet designed in early 80s is still not fully developed.
A third rate country like turkey designs produces new gen uavs, even complex naval ships quickly and starts producing them within few years. India with its huge "talent" pool of so called engineers cant do that for decades. Even with all the IITs and others. Agreed that khangress govt is to blame mostly. But as a country we should be more than this.

Yes ,can be done . As it shows the air drag results and aero dynamic performance, when you have all the data you just have to keep upgrading and enhance the design . While this drone can also do wonders with small payloads and precision strikes against terror hide outs in pok and also used in hostile territories like China borders .

I think we can use equip this with good sensors and camera for reconnaissance roles which can penetrate deep into enemy aerospace as this won't be detected at all . We can also use small ammunitions that are anti radiation or air to surface unguided bombs .

There are many unemployed good design engineers in our country who never got any opportunity to design for country. If somehow our country declare a compitition in engine design etc ....they can produce some super designs.
I think ADE can use many of its technologies in FUFA as well. My salute to ADE, IIT Kanpur and IIT Bangalore.🙏🏽
