  • Join us as we try Okonomiyaki (お好み焼き) which is considered some of the best traditional food you can eat in Osaka, Japan. This savoury Japanese pancake is one of the most classic things you can try eating in Osaka. The name comes from 'okonomi' meaning 'how you like it' or 'what you like' along with 'yaki' means to be cooked. Basically how you like it cooked! The batter for this Japanese dish consists of flour, grated nagaimo (yam), dashi, eggs and shredded cabbage and usually comes with either seafood and/or pork. You can find restaurants where you grill your Okonomiyaki yourself or have someone prepare it for you. If you're limited for time in Osaka be sure to pencil in Okonomiyaki as a must-try dish before you leave.
    あなたが大阪の日本を訪問している場合、地元の料理を試してみる必要がありますお好み焼きです。このおいしい和風パンケーキは、大阪の街を散策している間、おいしいです。大阪で試してみる日本食の面では、これを一番上に置いています。

Okonomiyaki (お好み焼き) - Traditional Osaka Food in Japan Travel Video Transcript:
Alright guys so we are sitting in front of a very hot grill that can only mean one thing. We are about to make our own Okonomiyaki (お好み焼き). I had never heard of this dish before we started
researching foods in Japan. Um but this is super popular here in Osaka It has been called a Japanese pancake or a Japanese pizza.
And let me tell you about the name because the name is quite telling. So Okonomi means what you like or how you like it and yaki means on the grill. So basically whatever you like how you like
it on the grill. On the grill with a whole bunch of ingredients.
There is going to be like a pancake batter. We're just going to be cooking right here. And something that is awesome is we've chosen to do this to cook ourselves.
Well this is great. We got some assistance yes without really
asking for it which is probably a really good thing. It is a really good thing. I thought it was brilliant how they cooked the meat first and now that it is put on top. Otherwise we may not have cooked that properly. We might have eaten it half raw. So yeah we got two different kinds.
We got a special mix which came with pork and some seafood. And then we got one that is strictly seafood. We have octopus, we have shrimp. I think we have cuttlefish as well.
A little bit of everything. We've got a little bit of everything from
the sea. Yeah, this has been waiting for me in Japan
all my life. This is so good.
It is so savoury and salty with the seafood ingredients but then at the same time you've got a little bit of kick and sweetness with that sauce. That Worcester sauce.
It is just such a nice contrast between those two. Anyways in terms of price point the main one that we got was a 1220 Yen and the other one the seafood one was 1250 Yen and so that was the price of the mains. The strawberry dessert was 300 Yen and the creamy custard that I got was 380 Yen.
So overall pretty good value. Like for all of for both of us to eat here
it was less than $15 US dollars per person.
So guys thanks so much for watching and we will see you very soon with more Japanese food and travel videos.
This is part of our Travel in Japan video series showcasing Japanese food, Japanese culture and Japanese cuisine.

There are two different ways to make okonomiyaki, and this is the Osaka way. Since the home is Hiroshima, please come by all means. By the way, Hiroshima and Osaka sometimes argue over how to make it.

Samuel you seem like a really cool guy. I always feel like a lot of dudes are trying to hard to be something they're not and I was watching you when you served the last Okonomiyaki and you are a humble guy. You served her the "good" piece and specifically took the "bad" piece for yourself lol. Small gesture but one that a guy like me can appreciate.

Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos Great! When you visit Takayama city, I recommend to you to eat meat sushi, and 五平餅(Gohei-mochi). It was born in Gifu. And if you visit Gero-city, you can enjoy hot spring, there is also for foot hot spring at that time there is also puddings in the store. I heard 大江戸温泉 is good. But a little far from the city I guess, but still okay. Anyway I hope you guys relax at Gifu to good landscaping. It’s gonna be a little cold there. So you should wear a lot. Enjoy!

Okonomiyaki is also made at home, but it is the leftover ingredients. Cabbage can be at the main, but other than that. Mushrooms, tuna cans, rice cake, shrimp, pork, potato with hot water, corn, mentaiko, asparagus and the like. However, Korean Kimchi does not recommend it because it makes Kimchi the taste of all materials.

    Really been enjoying your vids!
The sauce is different from worcestershire sauce; it is okonomiyaki sauce. We also have takoyaki sauce, tonkatsu sauce, etc, they are all similar but slightly different.
Okonomiyaki is popular throughout Japan, so you'll be able to eat it in Tokyo if you want. If you ever go to Hiroshima, their okonomiyaki is well known and is quite different from Osaka style, so it's def worth a try.
I'm wondering why you write everything in Japanese when most of your viewers are non Japanese and Japanese ppl (I am one) obviously know everything that you explain? (Besides the translation, whatever the translator you used, is not good.)
    Hope you're enjoying Tokyo now!
Go visit Nikko if you have a free day, you could do a day trip from Tokyo. The autumn foliage should be beautiful right about now until the end of Oct, and there's a lot you can do there. 😃💕

That's hard to answer. It all depends on where you're going. Western Europe and Scandinavia would be pricier than say Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

Hi, what's the name of the restaurant?

Do you know even mixing the batter is not as easy as it looks.
In order to make much more fluffy okonomiyaki,
it is necessary to get air in a batter while mixing, so training is necessary for that.
Also it's important to press the surroundings gently by a spatula
without holding down the middle strongly.

Easy, just forget how to spell it and say : WOOSTER sauce 😉😘
If your determined to say the whole word : WOOSTER-CHER (yup, like the singer)

Yep, no one in the UK really says Worcestershire sauce, do as Shelley's Cloud says and just call it Wooster sauce.

By the way, anyone who has lived in the town of "Worcester" the way I did for four years certainly knows the correct way to pronounce "Worcestershire". Shelley's Cloud . The first vowel sound is pronounced the same as the vowels in the word "look". It is between "woo" like you have it and "wuh". The last syllable is NOT pronounced like the singer's name but like the word "sheer"
