- SCOTT WITH DALLAS PAINT CORRECTION & AUTO DETAILING IN PLANO TEXAS SHOWS A FAST WAY TO WAX A CAR WHEEL
Products Used:
1. Meguiar's G18309 Ultimate Fast Finish, 8.5 oz - amzn.to/2Q78QNs
2. MEGUIAR'S G18211 11 Ounce Ultimate Paste Wax - amzn.to/2PYCKmX
Honestly this is one of my favorite pastimes to do on my car and videos like this are what makes me wanna improve. Thanks a lot for the fantastic content!
I was never sure if I should wax my wheels. I will start now. Btw Scott thank you for your videos, I have been watching A lot of car detail videos on UA-cam lately. Its making my want to so it my self in other people's not just my own. First I have to have some friends willing to let me clean theirs.
thank you for watching and i hope I'm helping you:)..if you decide to start a business on your own,I'm sure you will do awesome!
Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing good tips buddy
im not a professional but i learned alot from like big detailers like chemical guys; but i used gold class meguiars carnuba wax on my alluminum alloy rims and they look better than using a spray wax however the spray wax is great just temporary, but hopefully things go well with you too
Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing is it safe on all wheel types?
Hi Scott thank you for the video. Do you still recommend this product? Would it stop brake dust sticking? Or do you recommend any other product?
I think I already know the answer. I have P21S paste wax, will that work decently? Thanks, Scott.
For me, if client takes a coating for the paint, I coat the wheels as well. Otherwise, I apply either Meguiar's Express Spray Wax, CarPro Reload or CarPro Hydro2. Depends on the price of the package.
Scott, thank you for your vids, I use everything you taught me about paint Correction on my Harley.
Question, after I do my chrome should I put a wax/ sealent to protect it?
Not absolutely essential, but it is definitely worthwhile and makes cleaning and drying that much nicer. I like to use a durable topper sio2 spray sealant that can handle some heat, DPC Armor is ideal or CarPro Reload, etc.. But you can also use a retail product like Fast Finish, Hybrid Ceramic Wax, or Seal & Shine.
I like to spray the sealant onto a microfiber application pad and apply that way. Great for precise and even application, especially in tight/small areas, like on a motorcycle. No chasing down overspray and it is very efficient use of product. A little goes a loooong way, if you're fighting streaks, use less. 👍👌✌
I have started to use QP ON products on exterior and interior protection and it surely is growing on me due to how well it performs and also how amazing the dilution ratio is.
awesome..i haven't tried the product yet..its on my list:)
Way too expensive here in Australia, $50 per can, I use spray wax, applied with a damp noodle wash mit, buffed with a dry noodle wash mit, quick and easy. Love your videos Scott!
Is there any way to remove an old wax layer off the rims? I used gold class paste wax and I find that the brake dust and heat doesn't seem to go well with it. How can I strip it? Thanks
We can't get ultimate fast finish in the UK yet officially but I managed to get some from a website. I love it, I do my wheels with fast finish. I apply it slightly differently to how meguiars recommend. I find I get a far better covering if I use a small microfiber applicator to apply a thin coat and then buff and smooth with a micro fibre cloth. After watching your video about off label use for spray quick wax, I applied the same principles and questioned if ultimate fast finish could be used to protect interior trim and leather. After testing a small patch to make sure it was OK, I went ahead and gave the whole interior a coat. Absolutely superb. No strong smell inside the car and no greasy finish, just the very smallest ammount of shine that can't be noticed unless you know it's there. UV protection that I know will last. Thanks for the great tips and advice.
Yes we can they sell it in Halfords
Can I use this with hubcaps? Just bought a full set and I want to keep them in good condition.
Typically how many washes or weeks would you need to reapply to wheels and paint? Also, Any chance this can also be used on the front plastic grill?
I have been using hydrosilex. Spray it on, hose off and works well.
Hey Scott I know this is an old video but as a pro I don't upcharge for applying something to the wheels...I use fast finish on the paint but I typically go over ther wheels with megs xpress wax I feel I can easily do that with no real extra work... have you found it best to up charge for something like fast finish?
Lucid and thoughtful. Thank you again.
This adds some time but makes for easier cleaning. When you remove the wheels to check the brakes or want to do a good job you can get to the backside of the rims. I put my rims on a 5-gallon bucket to catch the grim and the strong soap. It also gets you off your knees. For those that don't Wax on your rotors, this is the solution to that.
Is it worth it for paint?? I'm mobile and normally use a good wax or sealant depending on price point. And in terms of value it seems pricey but maybe it goes longer than I'm thinking it will being a small can
well its a true finish sealant so its best to use it for cars with little defects in the paint because its not going to fill the panel like a traditional wax..its a lot like opti seal..meguiars fast finish cost about 12 dollars and you will get about 8 cars out of the can...i like using menzerna power lock and than topping off that sealant with meguiars fast finish, it just looks amazing and looks like glass:)
Where do you buy those “white” cans? Is it cuz you buy it wholesale?
I use optimum spray wax, has pretty good durability compared to other spray wax's, this is included in an exterior detail, if they want to add some sort of coating or sealant than the price would be adjusted
That Optimum Spray wax is far and away the best quick / Spray wax I've ever used and I own a lot. Best Slickness & Gloss I've gotten
Going to give it a try. After cleaning the wheels and they are still wet, I use Beadmaker. They look great and are slick to the touch
on customers cars for a wash and wax, i usually use hydro2 or adams h20 guard and gloss on the wheels, cost is built into the quote
Fast finish. Love it! I got it in my Arsenal bc of you
its pretty awesome right?..i love it and its so fast and easy!..i feel meguiars really dropped the ball with getting the word out about the product..people still believe because its a spray its just like a spray wax and will only last a week or two..but again its a true paint sealant and the longest lasting paint sealant meguiars has to offer...i love the glassy look it will give to the paint and it actually looks better after a day or two of curing on the paint:)...so happy you enjoy it Victor
Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing yes it is amazing! Put it on my car 3 weeks ago and I love it
I guess I wait to long between waxwings for my chrome wheels because they need additional cleaning before waxing. So I generally have to use a paste wax to rub in to get them clean. Is there a safe cleaner to use on chrome wheels that won't damage the wheels?
Every customer i've had so far has had the barrel of the wheel be completely black with break dust. So bad that Wheel Brightener 4/1 won't remove it. So I don't even see a point in protecting the wheel. I get the absolutely most hammered shit on the planet that hasn't been washed in 1+ years the majority of the time. Fuck em
this comment is the best!..lol...welcome to the real world of detailing:)...its not all autogeek and chemical guys experience in the real world is it?....love you Trent!
@@dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343 2 years too late, I know... but I have to respond to this. I have a Challenger with giant Brembo brakes that are NOTORIOUS for tons and tons of brake dust. I don't have time to wash my wheels off every two days, but I do wash it fairly frequently. I've tried every cleaner on the market with mediocre results. In all my years of trial and error, the best wheel cleaner I've found, is just good ole watered-down Dawn dishwashing liquid. Yes, it will strip the wax (along with the oils), but it's so much easier to add a new layer of protection afterwards, than screw around with cleaning the wheeler multiple times.
BTW, enjoy your videos... been watching them for a while now.
I will never spray wax my wheels again because it made my brakes slip and as for best wax is rain dance it's the one year wax and it really does last a year
I use Meguires synthetic express spray wax on my wheels, leaves them slick and shiney 😁 out of curiosity have you ever used Soft 99 Fusso coat? I use it but was wondering if you have and what your opinion is.... me personally, I think it's amazing!
yes megs works great on wheels:)...never used soft 99 but i hear its awesome...its on my list:)
Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing Awesome. Just keep it off plastic trim 😁😉 the stuff is extremely hydrophobic!
I use soft 99 on my wheels and it lasts for months on British roads
Clean with a metal polish, I use p21, then wipe down with IPA, then apply ceramic coatings, I use carpro, last one to two years, charge 200, wheels stay in almost perfect condition
What are all the type of wheel protections? Like are there wheel waxes, sealants, etc?
I have been very interested in nanoskin wax and spray sealant it’s 30$ on Amazon and I heard u can dilute it 1 to 1 you can another gallon. I have seen some good reviews on the hydroponic ability what do you think Scott ?
I usually just use a glass cleaner for final inspection, or I'll use meguiars x wax just depending on the condition of the wheel
I usually polish wheels with Flitz an use mequires power cone. Then I use Magic Mist detail spray to coat the wheels.
How do you clean chrome rims and keep them from water spots & prevent scratching them?
I spray wheels down with a degreaser. Sometimes I'll use an acid if the degreaser doesn't cut enough. I usually use a bit of ultra fine steel wool but depends on the wheel. On polished aluminum steel wool isn't an option and on other wheels obviously acids can't be used. Either way after I clean the wheels I like to use Nu finish. Its the same wax I use on cars. I really like nu wax and the same product comes in paste in a tub and also comes in a tube. I don't charge for doing it. I probably should but the way I see it, if your charging to do a detail and wax is included, then wax the wheels to.
very cool:)..i agree as pro detailers we need to find a way to protect the wheels but if cost more and you need to spend more time, perhaps we should charge for it if its more than a quick wax or something like the meguiars ultimate fast finish
I struggle with pricing. Id rather lump everything in together and give one price but it just doesn't work for people. It's something I have to keep working on.
well a package is the right way to go as for pricing...but if a client wants more protection than what the package offers, you need to up charge and be kind to yourself as well, no need to over deliver while your losing in the end:)...both parties need to win
Ross Reed you should never use an acid on chrome rims or any rims for that matter
I found that driving at a high rate of speed directly into a Yankee Candle distribution factory yields a very long lasting- some say permanent - shine.
What dilution rate are you all using with hydro? I find it very economical as it dilutes down 1:6
Hi Scott, I have so much brake dust on my wheels, is there a way to prevent or minimize that?
Ceramic brake pads
I love to use chemical guys V7 liquid wax, sometimes I’ll use the meguiars paste wax, to top it off add on the spray wax to not only remove leftover residue but just adds another shine,
Are you from the northeast?
I like/use McKee's 37 Hydro Blue. Super easy to use, spray it on and rinse it off.
I have been using Klasse AIO followed by Klasse Sealant for 18 years. I see no reason to use anything else. My 18-year-old truck is often mistaken for a new or at least a truck a couple years old.
Love the lessons you show and share. Just asking what's the best way to dry a set of alloy rims on my car they are 22" rim thanks
Use a microfiber cloth
For my wash and wax package i use 🐢 hybrid solutions spray coating on the wheels, easy to apply and doesn't break the bank
Hey Scott car pro stuff looks so easy to use and so effective but Alex detail shared some videos about some QP on stuff specially their 3.0 high end ceramic coating I guess it's called do you have any experience in that product I really like it alot and would like to get your opinion on it this stuff looks amazing very easy to use and you can almost use it on any surface please spread some words on this product because I value your opinion so much
i don't use the product but its on my list and once i have some time with it i will give my thoughts about the product:)...im sure its a good product
Scott question for cleaning black off road wheels with plastic chrome studs .will meg wheel brightner harm the plastic chrome studs and the fade the black paint since its acid based?vid if possible down the line .thanks
well wheel brightener is safe for plastic hub caps ....what do you mean "black off road wheels"?
Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing sweet well if its safe for hub caps should be fine on plastic studs and black plastic caps on rims ...and pretty much painted big rims you see on trucks 20x12 or 22x10 just since vids are usually on chrome or plain metal rims
rsxstype505 u can use it on those rims as they are painted just like u can use Megs wheel brightener for water spots on the paint. Always do a test spot 👌🏼
What products you use for permanent sealant?
Good job as always
I'm not sure the kind of detailing that I do qualifies as a valid data point. Regardless, before coatings came along I used Finish Kare 1000P on wheels almost exclusively. Not the fastest product to apply and remove, but it offered superior durability. These days I'm fond of Gtechniq C5.
I use the ardex wax. Works great for me
Mothers chrome polish it polishes and protects im a big meguiars guy but i like the results from mothers on that specific purpose
Do you have any videos on motor cycle I have not found any yet tks
So you wax your rim and paint
Can you provide links, to the products in your videos?
Its on amazon for 21 bucks
No way you're from Dallas Texas 😂. Sound like your from my part of town. New York / Jersey
Alrighty, there. I'll try the ultimate fast finish. On another note, you sound like Kennedy Steve. Some folks will know of whom I speak.
I'm not a pro. I use Turtle Wax Super Hard Shell paste wax
Scott, with a wax on the wheel, will a wheel and tire cleaner remove the wax after I clean the wheel?
yes unless your using a ph neutral wheel cleaner
Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing thanks for the response... great video! Love the channel
That Dallas accent sounds so much like a North East accent.
Think you would ever want to try that f11 top coat coating spray? Whatever it is.
Maguire's Fast Finish
WtH, I've heard about polishing wheels but never waxing I guess we learn something everyday....
I love Fast Finish. For a retail product, it's awesome!
Is it safe on aluminum
Mag ( slow)mirror bright wax wheels look great lasts 1-month every day driver
With my detailing business I upcharge for adding a wax or sealant to the wheels
MK6OWNER how do you do it with your business. Do you have a flyer with services. It so do you have packages. And if so which ones do you have?
Most of my business comes through craigslist and referrals, and no I dont use flyers, ive taken a different approach. I have everything that I offer on my listing and i give a free quote to the customer once they call or text me. This allows me to give the customer exactly what they need and i can easily recommend clay bar detailing, a certain wax, etc. depending on their vehicle and how often they get it detailed.
Have you ever had rude customers before? If so how did you handle the situation.
yes!..i always try to be loving and respectful no matter what...the best way to stop many if not all problems with rude customers is to control and speak clearly about all expectations of the job before you even begin:)
How come everybody has the same mole on their left calf
the down side to that fast finish product half of the can will be gone after you do 1 car you better off with that paste wax and that can will last a longtime
wow...you are using way to much of the product my friend if you have half a can left just doing one car!...one can will do 8-9 cars!
Or you took the label off lol
Great video tho .. I have Adam's h2o guard and gloss on my wheels .. working great so far after 2 months
I use Rim wax after cleaning them.
Regular CarPro reload is just as fast I use it all the time less than an ounce on 4 suv rims and no up charge because it makes my job next time much easier
I would use spray wax the chrome
Is this safe on all wheel types?
yes
I use p&s beadmaker
I think chemical guys make a green can wax just for rims.
I guess it's the fastest way, not necessarily the best value?
Use pledge save money will hold up to anything else
Chrome or polished wheels are EASY, The problem is those un Polished or un chromed wheels Those are a bitch wth those matte dull finishes.
well in the real world, i would say about 90-95% of all cars on the road have a clear coat finish so this process works great..but yes there are exceptions to the rule but its rare for guys doing this for a living and working on daily drivers for most of their clients...nothing worse than polishing an aluminum wheel but thank god you don't see them every day:)
well if its a dull matte finish, you just need to clean and leave it "dull" looking..isn't that the purpose of that wheel not to be shiny or glossy?
Yes..I think my point being is the clear coat finish on the matte wheels always cracks and fails on these wheels. So regardless of the cleaning they always look like hell. The polished ones are the best and easiest. I started using super clean on the polished wheels for cleaning. blows away all the other cleaners I have been using for 20 years. Best man..great stuff as always. Northeast the weather and the salt is murder on matte finish.
i don't miss the winters back in New York...i feel for you and know the salt your talking about...much love my friend:)
I use Autofinesse aqua coat, like capro reload
great product!...very cool
Keep those products off the rotors. JMHO
Fast finish isn't that cheap. I'm sure you might get a good price, but still.
well on a retail level its 12.00 a can and i get a little more than 8 cars from one can if I'm doing all painted surfaces and wheels..sounds cheap to me and its fast and so easy to apply so that definitely adds tremendous value as well:)
Cheapest I've found it so far is $15.99 at advanced auto... any other place that has it cheaper?
Nevermind, walmart has it for $12.97
Atomic Driver yes Walmart. I got it with coupon for about $10 and change at Advance
i use tech582
Mag ( slow)mirror bright wax wheels look great lasts 1-month every day driver
well meguiars says this is their longest lasting wax to date and it lasts a year..lasts longer than mirror bright wax plus that wax you have to apply and wait for it to haze than remove, so its a even slower process than using meguiar fast finish..also remember megs fast finish is a true paint sealant...again fast finish is the most durable and the longest wax meguiars has to offer
