  • The alternator is back up and running! I'll check the AC after I run it for a week in it's modified state. The dtc 11 is now eliminated.

Great video! And good tips on the testing. I have to do that now because it still isn’t charging.🥴I’m sure it sounds crazy but I just did the water pump and idler pulley and generator yesterday and I looked at this and said no stinking way I want to fight this. I pulled the radiator and everything else was easy after that. It’s a super easy job and makes everything after that a piece of cake. Even getting the wires in and out is easy. Took maybe an extra 20 minutes at most. Well worth the time spent.

Hey Mike, Great video! Helpful beyond measure and I can wait to get home and test mine. I first lost my speedo and then I lost my a/c, and batt gauge…then the batt gauge would come back in and I had a/c again. I suspected this (still a $70 part at NAPA) but you provided a way to test. Incidentally, because this is such a fun part to change I’d pay a mechanic but lately it seems I pay someone to do something only to have to re-do it myself….thanks again👍

I changed the part. I found removing the belt helpful but completely removed the tensioner and the bolts on that pulley to get that screw back in. It was a little more work but paid off in sanity.
Sadly, even though my old one was bad I did not get my battery charge indicator back or my speedometer. I am at a loss…

My alternator went out, burnt off the terminal ring. I did notice my speedo acting crazy in the morning for about a week befor. Sill haven't put in the new alternator

    • @Jordy40Growing

@@2eyedjack433 could be that the internal voltage regulator in ecm went out. Might need a alternator with it’s own regulator. Could be fusible link. But that should have went out before burning the terminal ring. Not sure though .

I installed the transpo voltage regulator on my 1992 first gen Cummins. And now the battery dies while it’s running and the speedometer goes down till get to 10 mph but it’s run like 80 mph. I disconnected the battery and the engine dies. You think can be the alternator? It was running good before I install the transpo.

Can someone please list a part number for the crankshaft sensor? NAPA or OReilly? After watching this video I unplugged the crankshaft sensor and my check engine light went off and charging fine. I must have a short in sensor. I happen to have an external voltage regulator. Thank you so much for the video.

As I recall I got it from Oreilly's. Borg Warner is the brand as you can see on the box. At 2:01 it looks like the box says CSS1756. My dodge is a 1993. I don't remember where I got the .050" spec. Back in those days I had massive headaches.

I changed my altornator and installed external voltage regulator I don’t know what to do to diagnose why it’s not charging the belt tensioner probably needs changed because it allows the belt to run on a bracket but I don’t think that’s the main problem. Mine is manual 12 valve d350 didn’t originally have external voltage regulator. People say the crank position sensor doesn’t matter but some say it does effect charging.

If the cps dies, the ac and the alternator stop working on my '93.

Maybe check the fusible links possibly there are in as far as the computer on the fender you can take it apart and then when you take the top off of it in the upper left-hand corner there are two capacitors that sometimes go bad and now I don’t know if there’s something in your vehicle causing it to go bad but there’s that gel you just dig out around that those capacitors and you replace those Panasonic makes good capacitors now there’s a stripe on those capacitors you make sure that stripe is facing the same direction when you put the new ones back in it’s really not that hard of a job I’ve watched a guy on UA-cam do it so anyhow this is six in a row jim From Kennerdell Pennsylvania I have a 91.5 dodge give you three guesses what’s under the hood

Yank the alternator out and take it to an auto parts store for testing.

It is not that hard to remove the fan. It makes the job simple since you can get at the mounting bolts.
Jam the belt over the alternator pulley with a C clamp put the wrench on the large nut and hit the wrench with a hammer.
The fan threads are left handed. Large wrenches made in China can be quite cheap.

I did end up putting in a new fan clutch. A $15 wrench from Tractor Supply made it possible. Thanks for the tips !!
