Tokyo Marui MWS Zet GBBR M4 Airsoft Recommended First Upgrades

- If you want the tldr, the essential recommended upgrades out of the box are:
1) Enhanced Nozzle Return Spring
2) Hop Up Nub/Arm
3) Aluminum Buffer
4) One Piece Buffer Tube/Red Loctite Stock Buffer Tube End Cap
Side Notes:
-Stock nozzles are best imo.
-Stock bucking work great, I also like modify tan.
-Stock barrels are very accurate, but swapping to a tighter bore or longer barrel can increase fps if that is a goal. Another option is npas valves.
Parts Recommendations:
1) Dynamic Precision, G&P, all others should work. However the Guns Modify spring is really short and a pita to install fyi. I don’t recommend them due to difficulty of installation.
2) Six G brass concave spacer, Wii brass concave spacer, We-tech brass concave spacer (any hard type concave spacer should work), or Laylax mws hop up arm
3)G&P V1 Aluminim Buffer (make sure it’s for the stock tube diameter and not their own as it’s wider and won’t fit the stock tube). They also sell a 6 position buffer tube combo set that includes the buffer I recommend. (NOT the 5 position tube set), OR T8 buffer if g&p v1 is unavailable (v2 has some considerations)
4)G&P buffer tube.. some mixed results with newer threads. Angry Gun has had good results with ppl. Not sure on others. Guns Modify works but will require some dremeling/modification to your buffer tube retainer ring fyi. Don’t have experience with others.
Additional Secondary Upgrades:
5)Barrels: PDI, Laylax, Prometheus, Edgi, Lambda (longer barrel/tighter bore will net you consistent fps gains and perhaps some accuracy)
6)Buckings: User dependant on your exact hop/barrel combos. Stock works great, Maple Leaf 2021 MR Hop is very popular, I prefer Modify Tan for general use, and use Maple Leaf 2021 Silicone buckings for winter use.
6) NPAS: RA-Tech, Orga (for fps fine tuning)
7)BB’s: Indoor: .25-.30 is fine. For outdoor: recommend high quality (minimum .30) .32, .36, or .40 for max range (heavy weight carries farther)/accuracy/effect (less affected by wind/brush, increased “hit” calls = less ammo needed)
Hope this helps some people get the most out of and enjoy this awesome gbbr platform, whether you’re using it for training or airsofting, I highly recommend them.

Update: I now recommend the Laylax hop arm for a hop nub upgrade, they work fantastic and give you a huge range of adjustment, more so than concave spacers and seem easier to source.

Thank you! There is so much to learn for me, it would be so cool if you can show how to install the upgrades. I will buy my first gbb soon and it will be a mws. After i played with systema PTWs for 13 years now.
So as mentioned in the vid UA-cam “Eagle 6 mws” and his vids should pop up, he has great dissasembly videos for everything you need on this platform. I didn’t feel there’s a need to redo any of them although there are a few tricks for certain things I’ve learned along the way, so maybe I’ll do some of those.
Appreciate the feedback though I do have some ideas for some more vids and have some time coming up so will try to put out some more content!

You won’t be dissapointed! I’d recommend getting just a base mws or cqbr and modifying externals on your own, the mtr has some weird issues sometimes and the mk18 has a propietary barrel nut that’s a pain.. best to buy your own mk18 rail and throw it on 👍

one thing I would "add" is do not change the Nozzle return spring instantly just wear out the original one cuz it is not something that will damage the guts of the gun when it breaks they also almost always break on 3-4k rounds so keeping a round count is a smart move. Should add that I have not been able to use mine (got it to late October and it is cold here in Sweden by then) but I have been lurking this platform ever since it was released.
That’s one video I really want to do is focus on cold weather mods, I think I touched on it here but it’s worth it’s own video. Check out Ollie talks airsoft he has some great vids on this platform as well! But basically swap to a stock or lightweight buffer, a lightweight bolt, and one of those new maple leaf silicone buckings, I’ve successfully operated my mws in sub freezing temps with those mods!
I’d argue to go ahead and change the nozzle spring ootb so as to not have to worry about it, but to each their own! It is a bummer when it busts mid game and you are out of action the rest of the day. At the very least ID order it and have on standby as it’s more a “when” rather than “if” thing. But yes they can last many 1000s of rounds you never know.
Have an old stock TM M733 looking to upgrade to metal upper/lower It has fully Systema upgraded internals. Can you make some recommendations on changing out the plastic parts and what would fit it?

Anyways I would like to buy a complete bolt set from T8 as I wanna use higher power gas. To my knowledge there are some plastics parts inside the rifle which will not tolerate higher power gas. Budget is not an issue.

Hello I got a quick question for the G&P v1 aluminum buffer, which version should we get the short or long version?
So I have a laylex hop arm, what buckings would you recommend using with that? I’ve heard that most buckings are designed to be used with a nub and not a solid arm? :/

Which parts did you use to build your 14.5" URGI?
Is it the Guns Modify URGI or did you build one off a stock M4A1? Im mostly interesting in what you had to do for outer barrel to pair with say a HAO URGI 14.5" rail.
I considered making a second upper for my MK18, if theres a good upper to use that pairs good with a stock lower. If not I guess maybe building one of a stock M4A1 upper/lower setup?
I am also using the stock gun (mtr16 in that one) with the Hao urgi 13.5 rail. Originally with the stock 14.5 barrel, I’ve since changed to the z parts steel 14.5 barrel but if you choose the “mws” barrel nut option on the Hao rail it will work fine with stock. Other rails you will need either an barrel nut adapter or an aftermarket barrel to fit.
As far as uppers fitment can be tricky, stock tm uppers really are the best bet if you can find one. Many others are hit or miss. Have heard issues with guns modify, angry gun even g&p.
Building these a la carte also gets expensive really quick, unless buying used which can be a pain to piece together. I’d recommend finding a cheap used mws or just a new 2nd one if possible, it will save you time headache and likely not cost much more than building- and you will have a complete 2nd gun which is great to have if you’re invested in the platform imo
Edit: I’m actually selling my Hao rail so lmk if you’re in the us and interested! Otherwise with shipping costs buying direct is probably the way to go

This is a holosun hs403r, so essentially an aimpoint t2 clone. I’ve found them to be the best bang for buck if you want a real deal optic but don’t want to spend $500+, I use them on many builds.
Can usually be had slightly used for around $125 and are more than capable red dots that look the part!

Literally any aftermarket aeg rail will work, but you will need either a mws barrel spacer adapter or an aftermarket barrel for proper lockup as the stock tm barrel is too thin and won’t work with aftermarket barrel nuts

No Angrygun parts? What about the Super Recoil Buffer Kit for Marui MWS GBB from Angrygun?
I do have one of those and they are a blast, have mentioned them before. Pin for the spring loaded cap is tweaked though. Their externals seem to be pretty good to go. Mainly they have a bad reputation on their nozzles (heard the newer generations are better, but still may need to swap sealing buffer out) and their charging handles
How did you get your MK18 rail off? I love this thing but i cannot get the front rail off at all.
You need the m&p 22 front end removal tool- they are notoriously a pain to remove otherwise as TM used a propietary mounting system on their mk18. Should have mentioned I actually built mine myself, I recommend buying stock mws and adding an aftermarket rail vs buying the stock mws mk18.. don’t think those were even a thing when I did mine!

Hey yes you can easily do just about anything with these. Check redwolf airsoft they’re my goto for parts. Search mws barrels and they will pop up. Zparts makes really nice ones, both steel barrels (awesome) and lightweight aluminum.
Stocks you just buy any milspec stock you want and it’ll fit.
Question: I changed my nozzle return spring Dyanamic and after installing, I have less spring to it. It seems to stick a little. No problem shooting, but I don’t know why this is. Any ideas?
If it shoots fine I wouldn’t worry about it. Not sure what you mean but the spring is stiffer so by “less spring” you mean it’s stiffer sounds like it’s working as intended

This is just a madbull mk18 rail, g&p also makes a nice mk18 front end set that comes with barrel and everything. I am now running a real daniel defense ris ii rail on mine

Redwolf sells them but has been known to cover trades, just Google around there’s a bunch sites, typically have to order from overseas but evike does sell them, albeit a bit more expensive. You can also check sixmm (have a bit of a bad rep but I’ve ordered from them multiple times without issue) jkarmy, impulse101 (great source for stock parts too)

Yes mtr is essentially the same as the mws besides the ambi controls and furniture, upgraded nozzle spring is a must for all mws regardless

I have a cpl I need to install/test still but he’s an active member in the community and so far all reports have been fantastic. Single tool adjustment vs dual tool on most other designs, and very consistent fps

Would you recommend spending money on optics used for real firearms? Stuff like eotech?
The majority of my optics are used, you can often find lightly used optics for really good deals. r/gunaccessoriesforsale is my goto, just be sure to get good pictures and use precautions buying from second parties. With optics my main concern is scratched lenses and just making sure they turn on, but most optics will be just fine even with hard use
If my TM GBBR is shooting at 320fps and it has to be 290fps for my local airsoft club.. How do i reduce the fps please?

The receivers come cerakoted stock, another nice feature of the platform as they’re very scratch resistant and have a great finish. My mk18 is just rattle canned

@@knightairsoftwarrior yep propane is fine but that is what causes the nozzle return springs to eventually bust as they were designed for weaker duster gas. I recommend just swapping that straight away or atleast having one on stand by- dynamic precision nozzle upgrade kits have treated me well.
I don’t like the guns modify one because the spring is shorter and is a pita to install.
I’m regards to propane I typically use 3/4 of a Coleman green tank every game day. I use an adapter to refill my small Coleman camping tanks from a big bbq tank as it’s cheaper and much more convenient than running around town looking for Coleman’s.. especially in summer when everyone’s camping and they can be out of stock. But yes you will use a lot of propane if you game this platform every weekend! Link below
