The gauntlet has reached its final round. Despite some relatively lopsided series (especially in the more anticipated ones), the Stanley Cup Final matchup is set: The Colorado Avalanche will be facing off against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Both teams have a lot to prove. Colorado overcame immense pressure to realize their potential but want to solidify their claim to the league's elite. Tampa Bay just wishes for more. They want a third straight Cup, and they will stop at nothing to get it.

Edit: Fr though, kudos to the Avs. They were an absolute force all postseason long and they truly deserved the cup this year. The torch was eventually gonna be passed. I’m proud of what the Lightning has done over the past few years as well. Going from postseason chokers to a dominant force throughout the past three seasons is something to be proud of. Looking forward to what 2023 has in store.

I have never been this excited for a Haters Guide to the Stanley Cup Final. Your content is great as always Tree. Keep up the great work. This year's final is going to be one of the all-time greats. A potential 7-game thriller between two juggernauts lead by future Hall of Famers battling to the death. It's going to be amazing. I'm so hyped for this final. We're either getting a new dynasty, or MacKinnon and Makar getting the Cups they deserve.
Also, I'm really glad that the Leafs fell with grace this year, instead of choking. It has revived hope in Toronto's Cup window.
Oh no no, scratch that statement about Toronto. It doesn't even matter which team has been put out there in game 7, even if it's this year's coyotes there Leafs are still going to find a way to choke.

@@dragroch5536 You can't say that anymore. Everyone on the Leafs actually showed up this off-season, and pushed a potential new dynasty to the brink of elimination. Think about that. Out of all the three teams Tampa has faced thus far, Toronto was the only one that pushed Tampa to the brink of elimination. If they can push the best team in hockey to their absolute limits, than they would obliterate Arizona in a humiliating 4-game sweep. Just look at Toronto's playoff history in comparison to Tampa and Washington's. Both Tampa and Washington were underachieving for years before it finally all came together. Toronto is not dead yet. They have been revived.

I'd like to point out something else about the Lightning's run that I've seen no one talk about: They haven't started a single series in these playoffs with home ice advantage. And they won't. These playoffs have truly been a testament to how crucial it is to be able to win on the road.
Well, it was specially true in 2020, considering they went through OT in a lot of games, 2021 was more like beating tough squads
The Avs haven't seen anything like the Lightning its true but that absolutely cuts both ways. Tampa also hasn't seen anything like the Avs. Colorado's firepower, defensive hybrids, and sheer overall depth are unlike anything this Tampa squad has ever seen in the postseason. We aren't the overacheving Stars or the flukey lightning-in-a-bottle Canadiens, we're as big of an NHL juggernaut as there has been in recent memory. Win or lose, this is very likely to be the most challenging postseason series that the players on both teams may ever play in their careers. It's gonna make for some fantastic watching. Avs in 6.

This. I'm of the opinion the Avs are the better team. The lightning are just good at exploiting holes. That's why they lose the first few games then come back. But the Avs are a POLISHED team, they don't have those kinds of gaps to charge through.
IF the lightning win, it's gonna be with dirty, trash hockey in order to enhance the injuries the Avs already have, a tactic they aren't known for, but they did enjoy to a certain extent in 2020 against a brutalated Stars team.

Ironically,Tampa Bays last truly worthy apponent in the Stanley Cup Finals was in 2015 when they lost to the hawks in 6 games. Good prediction, but I hope the Aves go 4-0.

The only difference is that Tampa learned from their lesson: they had to learn to survive or be destroyed (and as you can see, so far, they did). The real question is, after the sweep of the Lightning towards the Panthers, what will the Panthers do about it?

The Oilers weren’t making it under any circumstances. They were just lucky to survive against the Kings and faced off against the NHL’s version of the Houston Oilers. We saw who they really were against the Avalanche and now Holland will screw up the team’s future even more this offseason. Only 3 and 4 more years, Leon & Conner.
the series against the avs didnt feel like a sweep. it felt more like mike smith being so inconsistent that the oilers had to score 6 times a game to keep up. it felt more like a 6 game series to me
So I guess we also saw what the Flames really were against Edmonton then too? Nobody thought the Oilers were cup contenders and they weren't expected to be. The playoffs were mostly a success, especially considering where they were in December/January.
The Houston Oilers never won a title though. The Flames have, albeit awhile ago.

I'm still sad over Gm7 Tor/TB. That was the most heartbreaking sports moment in my life. Only saving grace for me was I had to work during it. I was literally depressed in my for 2 days after the game. It hurts being a Leafs fan in the US and thanks Tree for not roasting/memeing them. Everyone showed up and Campbell held his own against the best Goalie in the world.

They were also made up of some of the greatest players to ever lace up the skates. The 1980s Oilers are widely considered one of, if not the greatest dynasty’s ever and it will take more than three in a row to take that title from them.

With how amazing and tight these playoffs have been and how pretty much every NBA playoff game has been an unwatchable blowout, I think more people are starting to realize that the NHL puts on a more entertaining product for casual sports fans.

It's hurts to see them do this since we saw what happens with the Red Wings, Hawks and Kings when you try to keep it together too long. This isn't the 90s where you can safely rely on guys well into their mid to late 30s - the game has gotten younger and faster and keeping the core together for that long just doesn't work.

Whatever happens as a Bolts fan im happy with how far they have come since 2019. Yes it would be sadden if they do not win championship 3 in a row but Jon Cooper,Stamkos,Kucherov,Hedman,Pointer,Vasy and so on have given Tampa Bay the best memories ever. We went from a small market team to a BIG MARKET TEAM Over 280 Sold Out Arena Games In A Row Including Playoffs. The exposer for the city that needed it so much got it not just for the city but the sport itself. People love to have TBL and want them to lose so they will watch and TBL fans that have been through the rough before drafting Stamkos is remarkable how far they have come since then.
The Avs are on favorite this time around to win the cup there is no sugarcoating it they have been through losing themselves and being upsetted by the Canadiens last year it seems they figured it all out themselves. They have a great and fantastic fanbase that has been waiting for this moment in 2 decades...
TBL has a massive chance of making themselves part of the NHL greatest franchises of all time in their rightful place but they have to earn it this time. But i'll give my Bolts more ammo to use in this Stanley Cup

As a leaf’s fan I was definitely saddened by our exit but I was also proud of our fight at the same time. We hadn’t ever seen a leaf’s team more driven and fast paced like this. We just had the misfortune of meeting the team that would eventually go to the Cup for the third time in a row. I’ve still got hope that maybe some good can still come from this team. It’s the best I’ve been able to see since I got into hockey and honestly we might just be a piece away from making waves. Best of luck to everyone’s team next year
I knew Tampa was going to win the series but the Leafs still did put up a respectable effort in pushing the Lightning to the brink, but Tampa wasn't going to go away that easily. It was a heck of a series while it lasted.
It's looking like Kyle is gonna go all in on a top goalie and they are hiring a new goalie coach, so this seems like a step in the right direction. If we are gonna beat Tampa next year we are going to need a goalie that can perform in big games.

Kuemper is 100%. He's been practicing for the last week full practices. Bednar fully expects Kadri to play in the Finals, which is basically a yes, Kadri is healthy. Same for Cogliano. Game 2 isn't until Saturday so that's another 3 days Kadri can rest.
