I love all the hobbies you’ve mentioned. I wanted to mention to those that love crochet but have painful wrists, dexterity issues learn to crochet with your hook down. Game changer! I have carpel tunnel but I love to crochet. So I read somewhere(don’t remember the site) that it’s less painful to crochet with your hook down. I watched a video on UA-cam to learn how to do it. No pain now! No numb fingers! Yay! Also using longer Pym brand hooks helps a lot when you’re trying to learn with your hook down. I pretty much just use those now because they don’t hurt my hands. I will say though that maybe because I have large hands. My niece uses the Pym hooks as well but it her hands are of a normal size where I have huge man hands 😂
LOL I'm sure your hands are lovely! I have never heard of that method but I'll have to check it out! Thanks so much for sharing. Also what kind of things do you like to crochet?
@@Lauraetcetera I love to crochet blankets, scarves, hats, gloves, wash rags. I love creating patterns for future projects as well. Just taking 10-15 for a quick crochet project to see what these stitches will look like together. What do you like to crochet?
@@dia9491 I don't know that I have the patience for a blanket but I hope to make one, one day. I have a bunch from my grandmother which makes me feel less determined to make my own, since I've already got several 😅 Right now I pretty much exclusively crochet stuffed animals (amigurumi). I'm dabbling in patterns right now but not sure if I love that process or not! I do really enjoy just freehanding stuffies though.
@@Lauraetcetera I want to make a stuffed animal for my son. I went to a craft fair last year and they were making plants and artwork with crochet that were so beautiful. I’ve never tried it but I want to for sure. Oh if you know how to make a granny square you can make a blanket in no time. I make summer weight blankets just continuing a granny square on and on. I add a border and it’s done. I can make a lap blanket in a little over an hour doing that. You should try it sometime. I also love doing free hand designs that just turn into something. Make a center and just continue out. I do that a lot because I like to figure out what I can make. Or make a bunch of scarves the same length then connect by double crochet to create a blanket. I like those evolving designs. I think it’s the ADHD 😂 that makes me go random so often but I’ve made some really cool stuff that way. It’s just a joy to create.
@@Lauraetcetera oh and having a blanket from a loved one is the most beautiful thing. My step dad lost his mom recently and he says his crochet blanket from her is like getting a hug. It’s true. A crochet blanket is a hug from someone you love.
It really does! It's how I learned everything ^_^ I rant about it a little more on the @pleasantdreamscrochet channel. I consider myself "self taught" but really youtube was my teacher
I've never heard the term rock hounding before, but I like how it's a continuation of something we all did as kids! One hobby I suggest trying is calligraphy. I bought a book with instructions and lined pages, but I'm sure UA-cam tutorials and regular lined paper would be enough to begin. It makes me want to send physical mail more often.
start crochet they said, it will be cheap they said😅 I wish someone had warned me how expensive yarn is before I got so into it, now I cannot stop hahah I think everyone should try crocheting it is soooo fun and satisfying and addictive just beware of the yarn goblins stealing your coins😂 and then there are so many gadgets and notions and patterns..... but you can try making it more affordable with second hand yarn, people giving away their stache, crocheting for charity who provide free yarn from donations for donations
These are all fantastic suggestions on how to get cheap yarn! I started to make pieces to sell, and even though I have sold a few, ain't no way I've made my money back from buying yarn *nervous laughter*
I’ve been rock hounding for years. Best place in Christchurch New Zealand is Birdlings Flat. A stone beach 🤗. Wanting to give crochet a go after I was given an awesome blanket that was my great grandmother’s
Oh I bet that is just an absolutely lovely place to go! I wish we had anything like that around here. I go to a local river bank sometimes but there's nothing like tumbled glass for example, which is my favorite to find! I encourage you to try crochet ^_^
I’m so impressed by the animals you made! I’ve just learned the knit stitch and I can only do like two rows at a time cause of my hands but I’m digging it
This makes me smile! I am so happy you are finding joy in it ^_^ Consider joining me on the other channel -- I'm going to do an "ultimate beginner" tutorial for a stuffed kitty if you're interested :)
First of all, your shirt! 😂😂💜💜 I love it! Not good at growing, not good at watercolor, rockhounding would be awesome but health is bad and not a really good area, never could throw a frisbee 😂😂😂😂. I love how crocheting but for the life of me, I can not figure out how to do anything more advanced as a double crochet 😂😂 you won’t believe how many scarves and blankets I’ve made 😂😂😂 same with knitting, can’t get past the simple stitches. Great video hun. Great ideas!
ANYONE can watercolor! Art is subjective, so no such thing as not being good at it! Besides, it's in the process, not the result ;) I'm actually thinking of doing an "ultimate beginners" video for crochet on my other channel, leaning heavily towards a cat, if you're interested!
I may be the only person who can’t crochet properly. I have tried and the only way I can do it is to hold the hook upside down. I guess I have a dexterity or perception problem. I did make a shawl once but it didn’t turn out quite right. I always said it was because I learned to knit first and I couldn’t work with just one hand. My mom was great at crochet and I had a great aunt who designed crochet doily patterns for a French magazine but I just couldn’t learn it. I love lace knitting and beadwork.
I rant about it a bit more on my new channel (pleasant dreams crochet) but I love crochet so much more than knitting, I and also started out knitting! Honestly what sold it for me was how much quicker I could work up projects than I ever could with knitting. I love how you had the opposite experience -- we're all made different! I would absolutely love to see some of your creations, especially beadwork! Would you be interested in sharing some photos for a future hobby showcase video? If so email me!
