Just wanted to thank you for this amazing video. Never thought id be able to install my own Sub and amp. Took me a few hours but I have zero experience and love the way you broke it down from what wires to splice to tips on how to ground and hide the wires. Thanks again
I watched your video over a dozen times, and two days of trying later and over an hour and a half of trying to stuff a 0ga wire through my firewall gramet, I managed to install a 1600w sub and amp in my '18 impreza. Thank you for the great video as I would've been completely lost without it!
Yeah, you connect the speaker wires to the rear speaker speakers of your car, at least for me. I don't know if subis ever switch where the connection for starlink is, but you just want to make sure you connect them to the wires not powering starlink
Just finished my install, it took the whole day but this video has been my main reference! Thank you so much for the guide! some tips for others: -you don’t need to remove the seat at all, i have a bigger amp than the one in this video and it fit by sliding the seat forward to place it. wiring the amp is harder though. -look up video on removing radio, it’s super simple -if you get stuck, work on something else, and come back later -you can research and ask questions as much as you want but eventually you j gotta try it yourself
Do you know what your alternator is rated at? I'm trying to put about 1300 watts in a 15' Forester but I'm worried about headlight dimming. Any feedback you can give would be appreciated.
Thank you very much; thag was helpful. I hope you will upload a video showing the right motion of removing clips without causing stress marks, cosmetic damage, or even breaks. Also, what AWG did you use for the blue wire coming from the battery? Thank you very much
Hey Chris, Loved the vid and I'm looking to do similar. Question though, regarding the component speakers. I've read the head unit is underpowered and therefore people have run amps to power the component speakers. How would you tackle this? Using a different channel on the sub amp, you could attach the fronts for example. But how would you power up the rear components without losing the fade function the head unit provides? Does this require a secondary amp?
Hey do you know which wires are the power and ground? I'm installing a loc and all went according to plan except I have a yellow power wire and a black ground wire on the loc, and I don't know where to connect them.
Metra 70-1761 to connect to car wiring harness Metra 71-1761 to connect to factory radio If you buy both then you don't need to cut any wires on the factory harness and its like $15
Hello. I have a 2021 Subaru WRX STI. I replaced door speakers. Door speaker wire. And adding a subwoofer. I installed a line output converter after the factory amplifier and it is not working. It turns on but I'm only getting.3 volts out of the RCA cables. I double checked all the speaker wires I tapped into. Does the amp have speaker load censors. Help. Thanks
I just came across this video. I like the tips on where and how to run the wiring, but I'm horrified that this setup was done without upgrading the negative lead from the chassis to the battery. In the video, it shows you're still using the 10ga (?) wire. Just curious after the number of years this video has been up, has the driver burned through that wire yet?
Hey! Just did this setup, but I’m not getting a connection. I’ve done a few setups so I assume my problem is I wired wrong to the radio. Do you know what the model of this radio is?
No. Look up breakout harnesses. They go between the factory harness and the stock radio giving you a place to splice without cutting factory wires. You still get high volume signal attenuation. But unless you are wanting to go deaf, you can make it plenty loud.
What a good job, very practical and simplified installation. I would like to install the Kicher Key 180.4 on my Subaru XV 2019, could you illustrate where I would put it and how would the installation be easier? Do you think it should be behind the radio? How do you do it? Thanks a greeting from Peru.

Hi guys, I have a 21 Crosstrek Limited and have starlink system. Do I need a Telematics 16-pin jumper adapter ?? Because I read that the Telematics module will recognize that the output impedance (which is the front speakers in the OEM configuration) is incorrect and this will flag an error on the Subaru Starlink system.
If you are buying a subwoofer, absolutely you will need an amplifier. Your factory radio only puts out about 10 to 15 watts per speaker, and does not have any additional available power for an aftermarket subwoofer. If you are new to this, i'd recommend just using a loaded enclosure that has the amp and sub all in one. amzn.to/3y5wrlG
Could you please make a video where you make the cable insertion through the firewall clearer? because it’s not clear whether you made a hole or pushed through some space in that grommet. How the tunnel is shaped? Because I want to know the direction to which I should push the wire
I’m doing a rear bench delete and have contemplated using some of the dead space below (behind the front two seats) for a box and sub. I was thinking more along the lines of a 10 or maybe two 8’s. What would be your recommendation for that?
I found your video searching for the best way to route power through the firewall of my 19 Forester. This is for an amateur radio install. I found the same rubber grommet on the engine side and the plastic housing up above the gas pedal. Looks you poked a small hole in the gasket on the engine side away from the factory wiring? On the under dash side, did you pre drill a hole in the plastic tube housing? I see the blue power wire comes out of a hole but I didn't see an existing hole on my car where the factory wiring comes in by the gas pedal/steering column.
Mike Cooke yeah i made a small cut in the rubber tubing behind the gas pedal and another at the other side where the guy shows in the video he pokes through but I cant get the coat hanger to pass through. Been trying for an hour lol
Hey Chris, Just curious, how does the sub and amp you used sound? Still enjoying it or are you thinking about replacing any of those components for something better?
Hopefully I’m not commenting too late here. I plan to do a sub install on my girlfriend’s Impreza with the same sub setup I put in my truck. By the end all I ran to my radio was my rcas and my remote signal wire. Will there be a place to plug in my rcas or is that the purpose of the splicing you did? Nice video! My friend and I used this video and had a smooth installation. Before the install I noticed as I turn my volume up the bass slowly starts to fade out. After the install the same thing happens with the subwoofer volume. The system seems to fade out the lows at higher volume so the highest I can really listen to it before the sub starts to get quieter is 25. I’m guessing it’s just a weak head unit, but curious if anyone has some input.
Rear channel has Bass roll off at about 300 Hz to save the smaller speakers. Front channels should not have that (at least they don't in the 2020 Forester)

The yellow and black wire is to generate an accessory wire (power to the blue / white wire) if needed. Since our factory radio had an analog accessory wire available, we used that instead. Please watch all the video before making a dumb comment.
