"May the odds be forever in your favor." I like the closing statement. I've been a DJ for 18 years. I started on vinyl and now I am using a laptop. I still use vinyl for those extra special occasions. I don't know about you but I have a hard time competing with ipods, smartphones, juke boxes and these DJ's who charge next to nothing to do a gig. Usually, because of that low price, I lose out on a potential customer. How do you handle a client when he/she says, "I can hire this other guy who is charging me less than you." Also. What would you say if someone asks you, "What makes you different from your competition?" On another note, I like your videos. Just a week ago, I bought a trailer to haul around my gear. I took your advice and I opened my wallet. I really like the video you did on your trailer and I will be customizing it for my needs. Thanks again for the great information. Oh! How did you get your DJ name?
I highly recommend Zoundz and American musical.....that pay as you play is great.....it even helped me boost up my credit score. Will you be attending the DJ Expo this year?
Good video. You said it all in the first minute...you've got to spend money on marketing. But, before you spend big, make sure your presenting yourself and your company well. If you want to be successful, you need to think in terms of business, not just music.
DJ WOO PIG!!! I remember you from back when I was in a bunch of the dj groups some years ago. I went by DJ Carmine at the time (circa 2011-2013). I took a hiatus at the end of 2014, and I am getting back into the business now. Nice to see your channel going! I am subscribing to your channel!
I see your baby beard! These tips are not just for DJs they apply to a lot of businesses. some of these things apply to even my business. Thanks I have been trying to figure out the next video something like this might be next.
You hit everything right on the nose. I do a lot of what you're saying, however.......I just got these pens with my business name on them. (Of course I did that). And you are right, I'm a horrible graphics designer. And I was getting the cheap Vista print cards till someone said...you should have someone design your cards for you. (yeah, that bad) I feel like you could make a lot of money by being a palm reader for dj's.
good advice. I actually use zzounds when need equipment. plus PlanetDJ also have a finance company called affirm. their great also. but off that!! the tide is gonna roll this weekend.. lol..rtr. good video as always..
i like your page it has been very help full i was a dj back in the 90's i sold a lot of my equipment when i got married now i want to get back into the business. like you said you have to spend money to make money. back in the day i use to have crown amps which cost a lot of money . i had technic turntables mk2 which was expensive my rack was fill with eq's crossover compressors bass syntheis it was heavy. today the system is much lighter no turntables the speakers have amp built in i'm not sure i like this because if the speaker blows out your system is down . i like the old way because if a component go down you can replace it easy and keep it moving . i like using my laptop because i don't have all the creates of records any more .
Thanks for the tips. Quality is important along with maintaining a professional image (consistent theme from business cards to website). Where have you had success in finding a place that makes swag (logo shirts, hats, etc.)? Also, using rental equipment to supplement what I have has been beneficial. I can try things out, see if there's the demand and rentals are business expenses.
this is a good video I've thinking about upgrading stuff in my rig not sure where to start thinking about getting some uplights and a couple of flat screen TV to do video mixing with and some subwoofers
Great tips John! Very helpful, Thanks a lot, im just starting my mobile DJ business here in Chile and it's a kind of difficult sometimes 'cause there are lots of people trying to enter the business.
Yo I know your a busy guy But could could you do a video of 2022 gear. For newbies. That might not be awesome for a large show but are great for rookies. Thanks so much
New subscriber! Thanks for the info.. and inspiration! Have to say you grabbed my attention as soon as you mentioned Seismic Audio! lol I'm running 2 15' Baby Tremors for bottoms with no issues thus far. They are under a year old with 5 gigs under their belts respectively. Nevertheless keep up the good work!
Good video! I'm a beatboxer author and lyricist. I'm looking into doing dj with my beat box routine. I have some pedals and Mics and one speaker. I need to invest more do you have a ballpark estimate on a modest range for price on equipment.
Am getting back into dj , been out for over a year , am an open format dj what dj pools would you recommend to join and has music for an open format dj?
Love this video. Disagree about the front and back business card. I want the back to be matte white so people can write notes about our communications. I hate when people give me a card I can't make notes on.
Company sponsors: Have you ever wrote to a company asking them to be a sponsor. Also have you ever wrote a proposal to a University to do events with the Universities?
i don'T KNOW HOW TO DO IDOn'T have money don"t have conextion Dont have stuff for sale don"t have program to support on my design don't know anything about factory don"t know who can help me about this thing but why u know about mobile dj phone for whom?
